Breed: Welsh Corgi (Pembroke)

WELSH CORGI (PEMBROKE)

I had not judged the breeds since pre covid times and as we all know sadly things are not as they used to be. I do thank the exhibitors who kindly entered as I am only too aware it is a costly exercise and one does wonder how things will hold up going forward in these difficult times. My two stewards were great and thanks go to them.

Whilst numerically neither entry was big and there were a number of classes with no entries it was a huge relief to find a selection of quality dogs and therefore no need to address the dreaded withhold option. In fact both Best of Breeds are out of the top drawer and between them have won many CCs of late plus some good group success. Today saw the Cardis scoring here with a Group 2 and a Puppy Group 4. I guess this is something we should be proud of as go back ten years or so and Cardis rarely made any impact in group competition. I watched the group judging with interest and thought both my Pembroke & Cardigan BOBs looked outstanding.

Veteran Dog (2)

1st Jones Ceranda Surf’s Up

An old favourite that I have judged previously and I still consider there is so much to like about this tri. He is well made all through and has good bone and substance and correct feet. A masculine head type with dark eye gives good expression. Still moves out well and shows off his good points to advantage.

2nd Aylotts Barwal Blazing Desert

Red/white put down in good coat. The winner just scored with a touch more neck and length. Moves well behind.

Minor Puppy Dog (1)

1st Morris Reach for the Stars (nbt)

A confident 7 month old tri who went well on the move and who with maturity shows promise.

Puppy Dog (3)

1st Wyers Cottivy Fernando

Very different types in this class and this R/W scored for having better bone and substance than 2. He is well developed in front with good length and spring of rib. Held a strong topline on the move and strode out well.

2nd Coulsons Woodhenge Star Conqueror

A lovely outline to this red/white boy but I would just prefer a bit more of him. Put down in great order.

3rd Morris Reach for the Stars (nbt)

Junior Dog (3, 1 abs)

1st Irvings Born to be Your Stars Align at Twinan (imp Hun)

Such a good type with lots to like about this red boy. Good head proportions with a quality masculine look. Scores for body construction holds a level topline nice turn of stifle and short hocks which he uses on the move. Great condition.

2nd Aylotts Barwal Badger Boy (nbt)

A shame this r/w boy was not co-operating with his handler today and he insisted on pulling away on the move making him hard to assess. He has substance and a good head type.

Limit Dog (4)

1st Davies Andvol Z Sieger at Ermyn (imp Rus)

I very much liked the type and quality of this tri boy. Just right for size with balanced proportions coming from a good reach of neck flowing into good body length and strong in topline. He has the angulation to ensure easy action. Sensible head type and put down in good order. Res CC and can see him easily going on to a title.

2nd Taylors Ermyn Razzle Dazzle

A slightly smaller type than the winner but this tri is similar in many ways. Scored with his good head type, in good order and moved out well.

3rd Webbs Corland Nighthawk

Open Dog (5)

1st Coulsons Ch Woodhenge Star Commander

Again a class of very differing types but this red boy just exudes that look of quality that takes the eye helped by being a great showman. He has the balanced proportions and an elegant reach of neck with a strong level topline. Being picky I would prefer a touch more bone but he went well and was put down in excellent condition to take the CC.

2nd Maddox & Hedgepaths Cib Ch/gch/am Ch Trifecta Eagle Scout (imp Jap) NAF

Much bigger type this r/w was also put down in lovely condition and he shows so well. Would prefer a touch more neck to balance but otherwise a strong masculine dog who moved out well.

3rd Wyers Cottivy Cappuccino

Good Citizen Dog (1)

1st Jones Ceranda Surf’s Up

Minor Puppy Bitch (3)

1st Irvings Twinan Reflections of Love

Just a baby this red is well grown and has the bone and substance with a good neck and body length. When she got going she showed promise on the move but just needs to strengthen all round.

2nd Davies Ermyn Rainbow’s Gift

Another real baby and this tri just needs everything to come together. When she got going she also showed promise on the move.

3rd Morris Hey You Beautiful (nbt)

Puppy Bitch (3)

1st Dickensons Brynmay Star Explosian

Lovely r/w in gleaming condition. Scored on head type in this class and moved steadily.

2nd Wyers Cottivy Chiquita

A good length and topline on this r/w but could use a bit more front angulation and preferred head type of winner

3rd Morris Hey You Beautiful (nbt)

Junior Bitch (3)

1st Irvings Twinan Hand in the Cookie Jar

A lovely type tri with such a sweet head of good proportions and dark eye giving lovely expression. Shows a good outline with reach of neck and length and holds a good topline. Moved out well behind and put down in great condition.

2nd Dickensons Brynmay Star Explosian

3rd Hutchings Marvelguard Flower Fairy

Post Graduate Bitch (5, 2 abs)

1st Wyers Cottivy Strawberry Moon

Balanced type R/W with well constructed front, strong rear and good length of rib, she held a good topline and moved with ease. Liked her head type and expression.

2nd Creech Zydahayes Scarlet Image

A slightly heavier type than the winner this R/W is strongly made in body and well ribbed back. Tends to carry her tail a touch on the high side but went well enough on the move.

3rd Winfields Daleabbey’s Apple Pie at Brownieglen

Limit Bitch (3)

1st Creech Zydahayes Scarlet Tweed

Like chalk and cheese the first two in this class. Winner scored here with better bone and substance and correct feet. Moved out well.

2nd Coulsons Woodhenge Star Enchantress

A more feminine type than the winner she is very pretty but just lacks substance and could have better feet.

3rd Aylotts Holly Pippin at Barwal

Open Bitch (2)

1st Blances Ch Penliath Bill Me Later (ai)

I remember seeing this r/w at 6 months, might have been her first show, and thinking she had that special look that so often leads to a spectacular show career. She has certainly fulfilled all the early promise. So pretty with lovely head proportions giving great expression. Really uses her neck and holds a strong topline standing and moving. Just right for bone, good feet, well angulated front and rear which gives her the reach and drive to cover the ground with ease and flair. Put down in lovely condition, a born showgirl, CC & BOB.

2nd Maddox Salvenik Scarlet Rose

This lovely red is also top class and is so well made with good front and rear angulation, right amount of bone and substance and is stylish on the move. Today the Res CC but she is so deserving of her title and I hope achieves it.

Good Citizen bitch (1)

Winfields Brownieglen’s Ghillie Dhu

A good type who has sufficient bone and substance and went well on the move. Just tends to lose her topline. In good coat.
