NATIONAL GUNDOG ASSOCIATION

7th August 2022

GOLDEN RETRIEVER BITCHES

I would like to thank the National Gundog Association for offering me this appointment which I was thrilled to accept. It was a blazingly hot day but our ring gave a good amount of shade while exhibits awaited their turn at the table. I had two expert stewards who kept everything moving smoothly for which I thank them. With an entry of 119 I was spoilt for choice in many classes. I thank the exhibitors for entering under me and taking my decisions in good part. Without question I thoroughly enjoyed my day.

VETERAN BITCH (11,3a)

1st Seares Mrs D DASMAKS LEMON GRASS AT TANALIA

Pale 8 year old girl in thick wavy coat, sweet head, dark eye and neat ears. Nice flow of neck into dead level topline and correct tailset. She had good bone and cat like feet, well ribbed with good bend of stifle. She moved happily round the ring covering the ground well. BVB

2nd Williamson, Mr S & Mrs T THORNYWAIT ATOMIC BETTY FOR SANDTI

7 year old girl in profuse pale coat. Very attentive to her owner. Pretty head, dark eye, straight front legs and very nice feet. Good bend of stifle without being overdone. She held her topline on the move covering the ground easily.

3rd Turner Ms R GRAIN OF GOLD’S ARWEN OF AMILONE (IMP SWE)

MINOR PUPPY BITCH (15, 2a)

1st Zubair Mrs SM THORNYWAIT NEMESIS

Just 6 months old this little mid gold baby was perfectly put together. Sweetest of head and expression, dark eye and nose, nice reach of neck into good shoulders and return of upper arm. Her rear assembly matched the front. She had a dead level topline and correct tailset. On the move she trotted out happily showing herself off very well for one so young.

2nd Ellis Ms K TENFIELD SPARKLING SUNRISE

Slightly older at 8 months another mid gold girl in pretty coat. She had a dark eye and nose, correct bite and neat ears. Overall her construction was just what I was looking for. Good angles front and rear which would enable her to cover any ground easily – however sadly she was less than happy with her “runner” and being moved away from her owner, so did not give the best of herself on the run round.

3rd List Ms L HAYDENGOLD GOSSIP GIRL

PUPPY BITCH (22,4a)

I was spoilt for choice in this large class of promising babies and many went cardless with only 5 places on offer – I probably could have had a quality line up of 10 had it been allowed!

1st Price Mrs JM PUTJADE PUMPKIN SPICE

Mid gold 10 month old compact bitch. Dark eye and kind expression, she had a good reach of neck which flowed nicely into her shoulders, correct return of upper arm and matching bend of stifle – tidy outline but not overdone. She had lovely neat feet and good bone. On the move she held her topline and moved at one with her handler. She really was the best of a very good bunch. BEST PUPPY BITCH – BEST PUPPY IN BREED

2nd Nelson Mrs VJ CADWST AUTUMNAL MAGIC

Pale 9 month old shown in thick double coat – she looked a picture of health. She had a pretty head with dark eye, neat ears, lovely topline and tailset. Good bone, cat like feet and well ribbed. Another who moved happily.

3rd Monteverde Mr G OLVINGLAY GLORIA DEI

JUNIOR BITCH (14,4a)

1st Jackson-Haines Mrs J LEIGHSHAM CHANTILLY JW

Pale girl in good coat, she had a sweet head, dark eye and nose and correct bite. Loved the flow of neck into well placed shoulders and good return of upper arm giving her a very nice front – she was well ribbed, not too long in the loin and tail flowing off her level topline. She moved out very nicely, at one with her handler – her overall balance won her the class.

2nd Dunbar Miss L LINIGOR NINE TO FIVE

Larger framed than 1 she too presented a very balanced picture. Dark eye and nose, strong front legs and cat like feet. Good spring of rib, level topline, tail straight off the back and carried correctly on the move. Strong hocks which enabled her to cover the ground with purpose. Expertly handled her owner got the best from her on the move.

3rd Scott & Briggs Messrs A & I LARGYMORE LINE DANCER

SPECIAL BEGINNERS BITCH (8, 1a)

1st Hudson Miss DJ AYMSBURY ASHISHA JW

This 7 ½ year old has a way of making her presence felt…… she literally shouts for attention. She has eyes for no-one but her owner. Very alert and hard to ignore she has a sweet head and kind expression, dark eyes and correct bite. Well up on her toes she has a good flow of neck into her shoulders and decent return of upper arm. She has a good spring of rib and is strong through the loin. Straight front legs and tidy feet, nice bend of stifle and an ever wagging tail. She moved happily round the ring. BEST SPECIAL BEGINNERS

2nd Perry Mrs MC & Mr SL STORMHAYES SPRING WILLOW

2 year old mid gold girl she was rather between coats. Dark eye and nose she had a feminine head. She had good bone and nice feet. Adequate lay back of shoulder and return of upper arm, she was longer in the loin than 1. Not as happy to move in the now rising heat she did enough to gain her 2nd place.

3rd Callow Ms AM KIDSTON PRIDDY WITH CASSATESS

YEARLING BITCH (12, 2a)

1st Falconer Mrs AE CONTEMPORARY BEGUILE AGAIN VIA SIATHAM JW

Have watched this one from her early days in the ring and she did not disappoint today when I had the chance to go over her. Her whole attitude screams “look at me”! With good reason…… Mid gold 23 month old in good coat. There is nothing not to like. Sweet head, dark eye and nose, kind expression. Good flow of neck into well laid back shoulders and correct return of upper arm. Her rear angles match the front. She is well ribbed, has a dead level topline and tail carried straight off the back. She is enthusiastic on the move and moves straight and true. Considered for top honours, I am sure her day will come.

2nd Crookes & Jenkinson Mrs DS & Mrs RJ QUAKERHALL FLARE BY PANDORA

Another one I have a soft spot for – she has oodles of ring presence and you just have to watch her. Prettiest of heads, dark eye, neat ears, good reach of neck leading into well placed shoulders and return of upper arm. She is well ribbed, has a dead level topline and tail straight off her back, carried correctly as she powers round the ring. At one with her handler.

3rd Ives Miss A & Mrs T BALSAMINA BELLINI JW

MAIDEN BITCH (15, 8a)

1st James Miss A TSARMONT STARLET

Won this class on her clean outline – pretty head and good flow of neck into level topline. She has dark eye and neat ears. She is compact through the loin and had the leg length to cover the ground easily. Quietly handled she is confident and happy. A new coat will complete the picture.

2nd Taylor & Tenn Miss C & Mr M STRETTONHILL WITH PASSION

Only a puppy she did well to gain this place. Blond baby with dark eye and nose. Good flow of neck into level topline she had correct angles front and rear, but was longer in the loin than 1. Another between coats and not moving with much enthusiasm in the heat.

3rd Ellis Ms K TENFIELD SPARKLING SUNRISE

NOVICE BITCH (18, 7a)

1st Burton & Riley Mrs L & Mrs S PHOSIA POLLY FLINDERS

Very pretty 2 year old in blond coat. Feminine head, dark eye and correct bite. She had a lovely reach of neck flowing into her dead level topline and correct tailset. Her textbook front match the bend of stifle at the rear, giving her reach and drive on the move. She was in good coat, just needing a bit more feathering to complete the picture.

2nd Bennett Mr J GOLD TOTEM MA BELLE (IMP RUS)

Mid gold and 6 months younger than 1 she had a very similar outline and attributes. She had a pretty head, dark eye and nose and was slightly lighter in frame, but her young handler got the best out of her. She had good feet and a well bent stifle. Level topline and a correctly carried tail, she was happy to move round the ring despite the heat.

3rd Pounds-Longhurst Mrs SH MOSSBURN GOLLY MISS MOLLY

UNDER GRADUATE BITCH (14, 4a)

1st Burton & Riley Mrs L & Mrs S PHOSIA POLLY FLINDERS

2nd Bennett Mr J GOLD TOTEM MA BELLE (IMP RUS)

3rd Pounds-Longhust Mrs SH MOSSBURN GOLLY MISS MOLLY

GRADUATE BITCH (10, 2a)

1st List Ms L HAYDENGOLD TIME TO REMEMBER

Coming back into mid gold coat this 2 ½ year old presented a lovely outline. She has a pretty head, dark eye and nose and typical Golden expression. She was well off for bone and had nice cat like feet. Well ribbed she had a level topline. She had equal length of shoulder to upper arm and a matching bend of stifle – which enabled her to move round the ring on a long free stride – she was the best mover in the class.

2nd Williams Mrs M & Miss EL AURISTELA LADY LUCK AT LAMHRYN

Slightly smaller and lighter in frame this 2 ½ year old was very nicely put together. Again a feminine head she had good layback of shoulder and return of upper arm. Her bend of stifle matched the front without being overdone. Her handler needs to be careful not to push her head back into her shoulders which conceals her reach of neck. With her head brought forward she had good flow through to her level topline. She was very attentive to her handler and moved out with precision.

3rd Nelson & Ashton Mrs V & Mrs C WILLOWLAWN STAYCATION AT CADWST

POST GRADUATE BITCH (9, 4a)

1st Foreman Mr G & Mrs T AMBERSUN HEART OF GOLD

Mid gold well constructed bitch. Dark eye and nose, plenty of bone and well up on her pasterns – very nice feet. She had a level topline and correct tailset. She was very balanced throughout with good length of leg to depth of chest. Short coupled through the loin and with a good bend of stifle she moved with freedom and ease, happily following her handler. A picture of femininity and strength I am sure she could easily do a day’s work. Pleased to award her the RCC.

2nd Healey Ms M MARSABIT VANITY FAIR

Very similar to 1 in many ways, she too has a pretty head, dark eye and nose, good strong front legs and the best of cat like feet. Deep through the ribs and with plenty of heart room she has a level topline and correct tailset. She let herself down on the move, fighting her runner and not giving the best of herself. She moved better after assessment than she did on the first run round and so earned her placing.

3rd Harding Mrs LJ EVENINGHILL GOING DUTCH

MID LIMIT BITCH (10, 2a)

1st O’Gorman Mrs P & Mr S THORNYWAIT TOP NOTCH FOR BERRYMEADE JW

Aptly named mid gold 5 year old bitch in gleaming coat. Beautifully presented and handled she has a feminine head with dark eye and nose. Lovely reach of neck which just flows into her topline. Her tailset is spot on and she carries her tail level on the move. She has an excellent layback of shoulder and return of upper arm and her bend of stifle matches her front meaning she moves straight and true coming and going. It is a pleasure to watch her going round the ring. Quietly and sympathetically handled she gives of her best. Another considered for top honours – her day will come I have no doubt.

2nd Zubair Mrs SM THORNYWAIT I SPY (AI)

She was very unlucky to meet up with a relative from the same kennel – at only 2 years old she still had the maturity to give her this placing – she was beautifully presented in pale straight coat with not a hair out of place. A pretty head with dark eye and nose, correct bite, lovely reach of neck and with good bone and neat feet. Front and rear assembly were spot on, coupled with a dead level topline, good depth and spring of rib with plenty of heart room. She moved out with purpose and drive. Expertly handled to get the best of her, if I had had another red card she would have taken it.

3rd Campion Ms FENPINQUE GLAMOURGLOW

LIMIT BITCH (12, 6)

1st Smith Mr TB & Mrs LG GOLDMARKER LUMINARA

Another I have watched come up through the ranks. I judged her in 2020 and awarded her BOB. Today she was equally good if not more so. She is a mid gold 5 year old compact girl. Her head is feminine with a dark eye and kind expression although she only has eyes for her dad! She has a good sweep of neck to her shoulders and topline is level, her tail is straight off her back and she carries it level on the move. She has excellent return of upper arm giving her a nice front but not overdone and her bend of stifle matches. This enables her not only to reach eye level when she jumps but also to cover the ground when she stays earthbound. She clearly would follow her owner to the ends of the earth and the feeling appears to be mutual - giving them a very special ring presence. She pulled out all the stops today and I could find nothing to put in front of her – pleased to award her the magic 3rd CC.

2nd Ives Miss A & Mrs T TREWATER BUSY LIZZIE AT BALSAMINA

With her young handler it has been a pleasure to watch this bitch progress. She is a blond, solid, feminine 6 year old. She has the sweetest of heads and kind eye. Her neck flows into her shoulders and topline with grace, her tail comes straight off her back. She has excellent bone and the best of feet. She is slightly longer cast than 1 but that does not distract from her beautiful outline. She moves out with pizzazz and precision. She was very unlucky to come up again 1 today.

OPEN BITCH (8, 1a)

Oh my - what a class…… I needed 5 red cards…..

1st Macdonald Mrs J FLYNGALEE TEPPUM

Another I have watched come up through the classes to hit the high spot at a very young age. This mid gold 4 year old has won the hearts of many. She is beautifully made, the sweetest of heads with dark eye. Correct bite and typical golden expression. Her neck, shoulders and upper arm give her the best of fronts and her bend of stifle completes the picture. She has a level top line and she carries her tail straight off her back on the move. She has plenty of bone and the neatest of feet. She has a good spring of rib and is close coupled through the loin giving her the strength to power round the ring when asked – she moved as she always does - with lots of enthusiasm.

2nd Dunbar Miss L SH CH LINIGOR VIOLETS ARE BLUE JW

Yet another favourite of mine – she is now 8 year old but still behaves like a two year old. She has a very pretty head and dark eye. Her construction is text book with a beautiful front and rear angles to match, level topline, correct tailset and the best of feet. She is full of personality and at one with her handler. She covered the ground with ease and despite the heat she flew around the ring.

3rd Crookes and Jenkinson Mrs DS & Mrs RJ SH CH QUAKERHALL PANDORA’S BOUNTY JW

Res Youngerson Mrs DA SH CH LINIRGOR TEACHERS PET AT TREEVILLE JW

VHC Loverock Mrs M & Eddies Mrs M THORNYWAIT MAMMA MIA

GOOD CITIZEN DOG SCHEME BITCH (10, 1a)

1st Pounds-Longhurst Mrs SH ROSGAR DOLLY O’DARE AMONG MOSSBURN

Mid gold 5 year old with a kind Golden expression. Correct bite, not overdone in any way, but her construction and leg length give her the ability to move out freely when asked. She has good bone and neat feet, level topline and a tailset which means she carries it straight off her back. At one with her handler she is clearly willing to please.

2nd Pett Mr I & Mrs M RUMWOOD THREE TIMES A LADY

And very feminine she is too. Pretty pale cream coat, she has a kind expression with dark eye and nose. A good reach of neck into level topline. She has plenty of bone and neat feet. She is deep through the ribs, not too long in the loin and presents a balanced picture. She was not so happy in the heat but moved okay.

3rd Mandley Mrs V MALTQUDOS MISS NORDIC ISLA
