Merseyside Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club

Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier

would like to thank the committee of the Merseyside Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club for inviting me to judge at their show. It was very well run and we were very well looked after by the committee.

I think breeders really need to take care when breeding to try and avoid some of the issues which seemed to have crept into the breed over the past few years. I found the classes had varying types and quality which made some of my decisions harder. But I am very pleased with the quality of my top winners. I was delighted that my CC & RCC winner took the BIS & RBIS spots on the Referees decision.

Of course a huge thank you to the exhibitors for giving me the privilege of judging your dogs. I know how much time, effort and expense that goes into showing so I am very grateful that you came to the show for my opinion.

Minor Puppy (6/0abs)

1st Wilson’s - Northstaff Nightmare

Black Brindle with white chest, he has a beautifully shaped head, he has a dark eye, nicely placed rose ear which he used to his advantage as they helped frame a very nice expression, his stop is distinct and his head has good depth throughout with good strength of underjaw and a good bite. He has sufficient bone for his age, his short neck leads into a level topline, he has enough rib, short in loin, good rear angulation and he was very well handled and moved with ease up and down the mat.

2nd Gardner’s - Labrastaff Esspresso

Black Brindle white spot on chest and a little distinctive whirl on his shoulder. Good head shape with dark round eye, distinct stop, correct ear carriage, correct bite, and a very nice expression, good front angulation, his front had good width and a good amount of substance, and his feet turned out slightly at the pasterns, his short neck leads into a level topline, and a good spring of rib for his age. He was slightly bigger all over than 1st place and still very much a raw puppy. Im sure he will have plenty of good days ahead.

Puppy Dog (5/3abs)

1st Higginson’s - Fairlenium Iron King

This dog was hard to miss as he walked into the ring, his brindle and white ‘flashy’ markings and his eye catching expression, His head is well proportioned, it is deep throughout with a distinct stop, correct bite and plenty of underjaw, his tiny rose ears were well placed and his round eyes are as dark as coal. Good strength for a puppy, well boned straight front with good width, he has enough rib for his age and short in loin, he has a good topline stacked and on the move and good angulations front and rear and shown in good condition.

2nd Stanway’s - Waystaff Strikes Mayhem (AI)

This dog has much the same virtues as 1st place, a nicely marked red & white pied with very nicely shaped head, good depth and stop, correct bite and good depth of underjaw, dark round eyes and nice expression, good width to his front, well boned, good amount of rib and short coupled good angulations and moved and handled well and shown in excellent condition. I just preferred the neater ear of 1st place but im sure these 2 boys will swap placings many times as they move up the classes.

Junior Dog (9/1abs)

1st Dickenson & Stewart’s - Aymstaff Ballade Dreams

Impressive Black Brindle with white patch on his chest, he has a strong powerful head, deep throughout with a deep well defined stop and big cheek bumps. He has a correct bite with large teeth and a strong under jaw and tight clean lips. His dark round eyes looked straight through me and when he used his small rose ears it really showed off his lovely expression. Behind the collar his muscular neck leads into a well angulated shoulder, I really liked the width of his front along with a deep brisket and well boned legs and tight feet. He has plenty of rib for his age, short in loin and a strong well muscled rear and shown in good condition. He moved well when he settled down and the owner matched his stride. I really liked his overall substance. He was a strong contender for the CC, he is still only a youngster and I’m sure he will have plenty of great days ahead of him. RCC,BEST PUPPY IN SHOW & RBIS.

2nd Blow’s - Scoutor Rogue One

Another impressive dog that I really liked, Brindle with white chest. He has a very nice head shape with good strength, deep well defined stop, large cheek bumps, correct bite with good depth of underjaw and dark round eye, and well placed rose ears to finish off a very nice expression. His front was well boned but I would have liked a little more width to it, his feet tight and well padded, short muscular neck which leads down to well sprung ribs, short in loin, level topline, good rear angulation. Moved and handled well.

Yearling (6/0abs)

He was shown in fit hard condition, moved and handled very well.

2nd James’ - Luthais Loch Ness

Not as strong all over as the winner but never the less he is a very well constructed dog. His has a pleasing head shape with good depth throughout and a distinct stop, dark round eyes, well placed rose ear. His front was straight and he had a good depth of brisket. Behind the collar his muscular neck leads down to a good spring of rib, good tuck up to his short loin and good rear angulation. He seemed a little unsettled in the ring but his young handler was very patient and gave him plenty of reassurance. She handled him very well and he moved up and down the mat with ease for her.
