West Of England Ladies Kennel Society

Breed: Lagotto Romagnolo

A huge thank you to West of England Ladies Kennel Society for inviting me to officiate at this show, and to the Ladies of WELKS for their warmth and hospitality extended to me throughout my entire day.

I had a thoroughly enjoyable day - the quality of the dogs was high throughout. My thanks to my lovely stewards who ran the ring like clockwork and also to all exhibitors for bringing your dogs forward for my consideration - and the very sporting way that my decisions were received. I am indebted to the exhibitors for the size of my entry – thank you.

Puppy Dog (2)

1ST Mangham, Mr M W, Mrs M G, Miss C & Miss N, Googel Roberto At Onyxro (IMP FIN): A beautifully presented and balanced young male of just 8 months of age. Free of exaggeration and presented the correct outline that I look for in this breed Correct in head with well placed ears and good eye colour. Dentition correct, clean and complete. Short neck into good width of brisket – for one so young he had a particularly good depth to his brisket too. His overall proportions were as the breed standard suggests especially the two height proportions. Well ribbed into short loin. Strong hindquarters with moderate turn of stifle. Quality bone all through. Coat of very good texture and well presented. Moved extremely well whenever asked. BEST PUPPY

2ND Clayton, Crummy, Zdunic & Booth, Mr D, Mrs S, Mrs S & Mr P, Kantrace Blueberry Hill (IMP CRO) NAF, TAF: A 10 month old male presented in lovely condition. When stacked his topline has a tendency to slope away to the croup quite severely, which then spoils the overall outline of this dog given that he is of the correct size and proportions. Very good head, expression and eye with Dentition, correct, clean and complete. Neck of moderate length into correct forehand assembly. His height dimensions are correct. Again, good width and depth of brisket for one so young. Strong loin. Strong hindquarters. Very good bone. Excellent coat texture. On the move he was not as fluid and free as my class winner, which I put down to perhaps the dogs lack of ring experience.

Junior Dog (3)

1ST Ferguson, Mrs L, Truffalusa November Moon From Mizani: A very striking male of some 18 months of age who fits the standard completely. Perfectly balanced and without exaggeration. Very good shape and proprtions to head with good eye shape and colour. Dentition correct, clean and complete. Short muscular neck with very good width and depth of brisket. High proportions and ratios are correct. Very well ribbed back with short muscular loin. Strong hindquarters with moderate turn of stifle. Excels in quality bone all through. Very good coat texture and overall presentation. Handled to absolute perfection. Moved soundly and accurately in all planes. A very worthy recipient of Reserve Best Dog on the day.

2ND Stallard, Mrs K & Mr D, Mikette Solstitium of Sarabande: A white-coated male of 16 months of age. Balanced and correct in overall proportions and outline. Excellent head and expression with correct eye shape and colour. Ears well set. Dentition correct, clean and complete. Muscular neck into correct forehand assembly, brisket of good width and depth, short loin, moderately angled hindquarters. Groomed and presented to perfection. Sadly he needs to learn some ring etiquette when moving as both he and his handler were not at one in this class. Later, in the Special Beginners dog class, he began to show a much better movement in the ring.

3RD Hamlyn-Sharp & Hamlyn, Ms D & Mrs B, Bransbubble High Neb

Yearling Dog (2)

1ST O’Sullivan & Wiggins, Miss S & Mr A, Articbreeze On The Podium For Atkaluna: A very nice almost imposing male of some 20 months of age – he has a presence. Although his loin is of optimum length for me it is not incorrect and he is extremely well balanced all through. Head of excellent shape with good eye colour; dentition correct, clean and complete, strong neck into correctly proportioned forehand assembly, very good width between forelegs, strong hindquarters, moved very well.

2ND Webb, Mrs T A, Bransbubble Surprise Hope: A male of 15 months of age. Not quite the overall type and balance of my class winner. Pleasing head and expression. Dentition correct, clean and complete. Good length of neck. Good forehand assembly with moderate hindquarters. Moved soundly.

Post Graduate Dog (1)

1ST Whittick, Mr S A & Mrs B L, Articbreeze Turbulence At Allsong: A pleasing young male of 20 months of age. Presented and shown well. Very good head, dentition correct, clean and complete. Strong neck. His proportions when standing appear to show that his is quite long cast, once his chest deepens this will then compensate for the illusion. Good bone. Well made hind quarters, moved soundly.

Open Dog (5)

1ST Nelson, Miss J, Mizani Dioro Over Savio: A beautifully balance male of nearly 5 years of age, who absolutely fills my understanding of the breed standard. He stands square and so presents a perfect outline. Head of correct proportions with good eye colour and ears that are moderately large, correct, clean and complete dentition, strong, slightly arched neck into well placed shoulders, very good width and depth of brisket, compact strong body, close fitting elbows into strong short loin, well ribbed, excellent bone. Strong hindquarters with moderate angulation, moved very well. In good coat and of good correct texture. My absolute pleasure to award him Best Dog, Best Of Breed and I was delighted to watch him shortlisted in the Group by a highly respected and experienced Gundog specialist judge.

2ND Grantham, Mr A J, Mizani Dorocco Raffaele: A male of 7 years of age. Very good overall proportions and balance. Pleasing all through, Very good bone all through, head of correct skull to muzzle proportions. Dentition correct clean and complete. Strong neck. Deep chest. Well ribbed back. Moderately angulated hindquarters. Good coat. Moved soundly and accurately.

Puppy Bitch (10, 2abs)

1ST Shah, Mrs M J, Lamese Lucia: A bitch of just 11 months of age who won this class with 8 bitches present. An understated bitch only because of the inexperience of her handler not perhaps realising how nice this bitch is. She is balanced with everything in proportion and without exaggeration. Presented a very good clean outline. She has a very nice head and correct 3/2 proportions and eye of correct colour. Correct, clean and complete dentition. Short slightly arched neck. Very good forehand assembly. Good with between forelegs. Close fitting elbows. Well ribbed back. Good hindquarters with good bend of stifle. Short hocks square to ground. She moved both soundly and well but her handler needs to gain confidence showing her to allow the partnership to flourish.

2ND Bond, Dr K, Hazelnut King Of The Truffles: Another quality bitch of 7 months of age. Good overall balance but needs to deepen through chest. Excellent head and expression with correct, clean and complete dentition. Short neck and correct width between front legs. Height proportions are as required. Reserve Best Bitch only losing out to a more mature bitch.

2ND Harrison, Ms D J, Magpieblue Andromeda: A bitch of 21 months. Pleasing overall quality, she appeared completely disinterested in showing today. She needs to grow into her frame as she appears slightly long cast.. Head correctly proportioned, dentition correct clean and complete. Short neck. Good forehand assembly. Well ribbed back.
