Golden Retriever Dog Critique

Dog Judge: Linsey Dunbar

Having judged bitches earlier in the year I feel the overall quality in males is not comparable with the depth of quality in the bitches. A particular point of concern was the lack of correctly angulated shoulders, when you have upright shoulders you really throw off the overall front construction and the dog will therefore not have the effortless forward reach that it should have as a gundog.

VETERAN DOG (3 Entries, 1 Absent)

1ST Warden Mrs AR EYEVALLEY MACALLAN OF GLENTOCHTY ShCM VW

11yr old with a clean outline, typical head with a gentle kind expression. Presents an overall balanced picture with good length of leg. Clean neck, adequate shoulder placement, strong level topline, good bend of stifle and straight limbs. Moved soundly but not with enthusiasm today.

2ND Wright Mr JL & Mrs CILM PALTON PANETELA

Very gentle masculine head, kind eye and melting expression. Smaller built with a compact outline. Overall balanced outline and lovely neat feet. Moved best in profile.

.

MINOR PUPPY DOG (6 Entries, 1 Absent)

1ST Shaw Mr JS & Mrs LN & Robertshaw Mrs VA AKENSCALES BEAU BARON

Attractive upstanding well-presented baby. Carrying a profuse baby coat, good length of clean neck, level in topline, good bend of stifle and width of thigh. Would prefer more head definition but he is only a baby and many lines mature differently so hopefully that will come.

2ND Shepherd Mrs T & Miss E PARLICKVIEW STORY OF LOVE

Darker compact dog with a nice gentle head. Would prefer a little more length of neck to better shoulder layback. Well sprung ribs and good loin. Typical young male that is at the loose stage on the move.

3RD Reid Miss K SYBITON GINGER NUT

.

PUPPY DOG (3 Entries, 1 Absent)

1ST Gargan Mrs G SIAGAR SINATRA

Overall balanced and well-constructed outline. Well developed forehand construction, with good development of forechest, good depth of body and short couplings. Nice bend of stifle with good width of thigh. Hoping as he matures he develops a little more masculinity. BPD

2ND Graves Mrs HJ DANTASSIE DOOBIE DO

Very kind and masculine head, with a nice eye. Overall balanced outline. Would prefer straighter limbs and co-ordination on the move. Still very raw and needs time to firm up.

.

JUNIOR DOG (5 Entries, 1 Absent)

Overall nicer quality class than previous classes. Close decision between 1 & 2.

1ST Gerhold Mrs J NAVILIS VIVAT VIVALDI (IMP UKR) JW

Fit and active young enthusiastic boy. Attractive outline, good forehand construction with firm muscle tone. Excellent topline and tailset, good stifles with well developed thighs. Moved with drive and precision.

2ND Williams Mr EE & Mrs PC CESARKA SEA SHANTY JW

Striking outline and beautiful masculine kind head. All male but with a typical gentle expression. Excellent topline and tailset, well developed stifles, short strong hocks. Today 1 had a little more precision of movement.

3RD Oakes Ms D DRUMKILTY VANADIUM

RES Trinder Mr A FINNGREEN PAPER AIRPLANE OVER TRINDEVER (IMP FIN)

YEARLING DOG (4 Entries, 0 Absent) Not the quality of the previous class.

1ST Beck Mrs S SIMON BASSET DE RIA VELA FOR BEINANGUS (IMP ESP) JW

Today this dog was in-between coats and at that awkward good overall balance with correct length of leg. Would prefer a better layback of shoulder but had good upperarm and development of forechest. Level topline, moved ok but could have better tail carriage.

2ND Wallis Mrs K & Mr A LAMANCHA ROLL ON GOOD TIMES

Nicely presented male with a kind masculine head, good pigment. Clean neck and level topline, would prefer better forehand reach. Presented to advantage.

3RD Youngson Mrs DA TREEVEVILLE COASTGUARD (AI)

MAIDEN DOG (3 Entries, 1 Absent)

1ST Gargan Mrs G SIAGAR SINATRA

2ND Bednall Ms J & Milledge Mr A BENCOE BIG TIME OPERATOR

Previously 4th in MPD. Overall balanced outline with good length of leg, good bend of stifle and width of thigh. At the moment is rather un-coordinated on the move

NOVICE DOG (3 Entries, 1 Absent)

1ST Youngson Mrs DA TREEVEVILLE COASTGUARD (AI)

Overall, a nice dog with potential. A very handsome head, clean neck and shoulder. Presented in nice condition but handler needs to practice at getting the best out of him particularly on the move. He is a larger framed dog that needs to get a good pace to move correctly.

2ND Gargan Mrs G SIAGAR SINATRA

UNDERGRADUATE DOG (1 Entries, 0 Absent)

1ST Pounds-Longhurst Mrs SH MOSSBURN GALLOPING MAJOR JW

Clean, balanced outline. Masculine kind head, decent length of neck and shoulder layback, neat well-fitting elbows. Deep through the heart, strong in loin. Moved ok in profile but today was not quite so clean in front pasterns as I would hope.

POSTGRADUATE DOG (8 Entries, 0 Absent)

1ST McGeoch Mrs AL NEDLEZAH LOCHLEA

Classic balanced outline, not a big dog but he is well constructed. Gentle masculine chiselled head with a kind expression. Moderate length of neck, good shoulder layback, level topline. Good length of straight limbs, good bone and nice feet. Moved soundly. In consideration in the challenge just felt he was not quite in the best condition.

2ND Towers Mrs S & Henderson Mrs M ALIBREN BAKER'S BOY

Lovely clean outline, good neck not quite the forehand of 1. Very lovely head with masculine expression. Good bone, excellent topline and tailset. Just needing a little more development in thigh. Not quite in full coat today.

3RD Wallis Mrs K & Mr A BLUE GEMSTONE KATRINA

.

MID LIMIT DOG (8 Entries, 2 Absent)

1ST Haxton Mrs C DANTASSIE DOUBLE TAKE

Classic athletic dog, who looks as he could very much do a full day in the field. Impressed with his clean outline, correct balanced construction of good length of straight legs, well ribbed with short strong couplings. Good length of neck, level topline. He moved with a light easy stride. Not quite the finished article but he impressed with his athleticism to take the RCC.

2ND Towers Mrs S & Henderson Mrs M & Bolano Mr JA GREY GOOSE NOVEMBER RAIN (IMP ESP)

Nicely overall balanced outline, for me he is a little heavy in skull but does still retain a kind expression. Strong short couplings, good bend of stifle and width of thigh. Moved with a light easy stride. Presented and handled to advantage.

3RD Foreman Mr G & Mrs T AMBERSUN HEART AND SOUL

.

LIMIT DOG (13 Entries, 4 Absent)

1ST Woods Mrs MI DAILY RAYS HOPE OF HEART TO AMIRENE (IMP FIN)

A dog who was presented to perfection and in full bloom of his beautiful pale golden wavy coat. He has many very good points, dead level topline, excellent rear construction with good width of thigh and short strong rear pasterns. A sweet head with good pigment, nice bone and neat feet. Considered in the challenge but for me I would prefer better forward reach on the move.

2ND Laidlaw-Good Mrs J & McShane Mrs C FHAIRMHOR HAUD YER WHEESHT AT RIGERIN

Attractive overall balanced dog. Kind head with good pigment but for me I would prefer a little more chiselling. Good spring of rib and deep through the heart. Good bend of stifle and development of stifle. Handled to advantage to bring out the best in him.

3RD Wicklow Mrs G & Mr B & Wred Miss P I'M TERRA ANTYDA NEWTON AT GILLBRYAN

OPEN DOG (3 Entries, 0 Absent)

1ST Towers Mrs S & Henderson Mrs M ALIBREN GALILEO TO WESTERVANE JW SGWC

To me this boy has he most classic kindly head, well chiselled and masculine but not overdone. He has a very classic, clean balanced outline. Well angulated at both ends, clean neck into well laidback shoulders and good upperarm, placing legs well underneath the body. Deep through the heart and good strong couplings, excellent topline. He has a calm and gentle personality, I would love to see a little more bloom to his coat but he had enough today. He moved well with accuracy. CC

2ND Gerhold Mrs J SH CH JAYMARDY INDIGO PACIFIC JW

Strong masculine dog, presented in first class fitness and coat condition. Enthusiastic boy who at times can become a little erratic on the move. Another with an excellent topline which he maintains on the move, deep through the heart, well sprung ribs. He has a good bend of stifle and strong thighs, moves with a lot of drive from the rear but could have neater front action from the pasterns. BVD & in agreement with co-judge BV

3RD McDonald Miss M LAMANCHA JUST MEANT TO BE JW ShCM
