S/C Chihuahua – Judge : Miss L Tarabad (Khatibi)
I’d had to wait a couple of years to finally judge this breed and was delighted with a numerically good entry at a time when entries are falling. I was rather concerned by the temperaments of many in the entry, so many quite obviously didn’t want to be there, many were nervous on the table, unhappy on the move and certainly didn’t have the spirited, gay temperament I was looking for. I think the “it’s a lockdown puppy” excuse was used more than a handful of times! If a dog is cowering on the table, creeping around the ring and quite obviously not enjoying itself then the show ring is not where it should be, especially in a breed that should be alert and full of spirit. Obviously I can’t tell whether this is a training issue or a problem in certain lines but I felt it needed mentioning as it was so noticeable throughout the entry. Another point of concern was mouths. I’m not a mouth fanatic in any breed but I’ve never noticed quite so many bad mouths when I’ve judged the breed before. And by faults I mean undershot, overshot, missing teeth, wry mouths and everything in between! That being said I found plenty of top quality dogs within the entry and was delighted with my final winners.

This was a lovely class of dogs.
1ST 2908 – CH. Beautifully balanced in outline with arched neck into well laid shoulders, firm level topline perfectly set and carried tail, well sprung ribs and well muscled, well angulated hindquarters. Just the right amount of bone and substance for his size, in smooth glossy coat and optimum condition, His head is beautiful with super dome, well set and used ears, large round eyes, definite stop and short pointed muzzle with lean cheeks and good mouth.
