Darlington Dog Show Society Ltd

Breed: Spaniel (Field)

The dogs were much stronger in quality and depth than the bitches which is of concern because they are the future breeding stock for the breed. Overall heads were generally better than when I last judged 5 years ago. It was ideal conditions for showing and this was reflected in the overall movement, however some hind movement was not as good as it could have been!

JD (1) 1 McBain & Brewer’s Fecimus Son of a Gun.

PGD (3, 1) 1 Davies’s Gadhelic Rum Tum Tugger to Benbreac, 3 year old liver who has matured well, would prefer a little more of him all over but well balanced standing and on the move, pleasing head with kind expression, straight front, well turned stifle, full coat, moved well with an excellent tail action. 2 Moss’s Ewtor the Wizard, 19 month old liver, taller than 1 but not as mature or settled when being gone over, at that gangly stage, head and front not as good as 1, correct length of back, good turn of stifle, moved OK.

LD (3) 3 promising dogs who will change places many times. 1 Bebb-Sutton’s Sonnetend Spellbinder by Cochen, well presented liver roan with a good head and gentle expression, good reach of neck, well laid shoulders, straight front, correct length of back, good turn of stifle, moved with drive in the class, he was close up in the challenge but let himself down on the move. 2 Shipton’s Broomeece Firecracker over Mishules, black who is maturing well, pleasing head with gentle expression, dark eye and well set ears, slightly shorter in back than 1 and not as good in front standing, well turned stifle, moved well. 3 Elliott’s Elgert Break every rule at Portsoy.

OD (8) undoubtedly the best class of the day full of exhibits of quality and breed type, it was a shame that some had to go cardless. 1 Murray’s Nadavin Wallace, my type of Field with the size and substance we are in danger of losing, he really stood out today stacked and did not let himself down on the move, pleased to award him CC and BOB. Mature liver with a good masculine head with correct chiselling, dark eye and no coarseness, correct ear set, good strong and reachy neck, straight front, well sprung ribs, correct length of back, good turn of stifle, moved with drive both in the class and in the challenge. 2 Haynes’s Nadavin Wensley, black and litter brother to my winner. Was first attracted to him in the nest and pleased to see he has fulfilled his potential. Well presented, finer in head than 1, correct length of muzzle, dark eye with a gentle expression, low set ears, well placed shoulders, good length of back, nice turn of stifle, covered the ground well. Pleased to award him RCC. 3. Lewis & Adams’s Sh Ch Nadavin Yaden at Isribel

VB (1, 1)

PB (1) 1. McBain & Brewer’s Fecimus N’nautica Whoopie on the Beach Imp USA NAF, very raw 6 month old liver at her first show and after some initial hesitancy settled really well. Very pretty girl who should improve as she matures, nice head with pleasant expression, would prefer a longer length of back and reach of neck, nice turn of stifle, movement as she settled was good for her age. Will watch her progress with interest.
