I was very honoured and pleased to be invited to judge Cardigan Corgi at Crufts 2022. I have lived with Cardis all my life and, until recently, had a Cardi as part of the family for over 30 years, including a male from the last ‘Beckrow’ litter. An ‘All Rounder’ with a Cardi bent !!

1st Place    Ch Joseter Mr Blobby (Mr P Clifton) this rising 10-year-old B/W is a super quality male who has excellent conformation combined with desirable breed characteristics. A credit to his Owner and a fantastic representative of the breed. Striking and smart in appearance, possessing a breed typical masculine head with handsome lines and alert attentive expression having responsive well sized and shaped ears. Strong neck of ideal length and pleasing shape, set on to well laid-back shoulders. Firm well covered body with good depth and spring of rib and super overall length. Good width and angles behind. When both standing and moving, he commands the ring. My Dog CC Winner. Impressed on the move having precise extension in front and parallel drive behind which edged him to Best of Breed over a ‘Super’ bitch.

2nd Place    Ch Joseter Mr Parkinson (Mr P Clifton) a striking rising 10 year old B/W male who is litter brother to 1st and has the same ageless properties. He has an eye-catching standing profile having a well-defined outline and smart, clean-cut appearance. Overall, he is of pleasing proportions and balanced in angulations front/rear. Breed typical and ‘all-male’ in head having an alert and attentive, confident expression. He has erect, correctly set, nice sized and shaped ears. Mature and firm in body with depth, spring of rib and ribbed well back. Satisfying in overall length and proportions with enough angulation behind. Free, purposeful movement with extension in front but was a little unsettled and closer in hocks, than I preferred, behind.

3rd Place    Multi Champion Pluperfect Merrymoon Proper Englishman (Miss F Fricker) a substantial B/W 11-year-old male another who belies his years. He has slightly sturdier features in body. He is of substantial build and is well constructed having good bone and firm substance of body. Masculine strong-featured head with good sized, well set, responsive ears. Pleasing construction all through with broad fore-chest, well-made front, sturdy body, which is ribbed well back and well angled hindquarters. In good coat and pleasing body condition. Moved with confidence with purposeful forward action could be more settled in rear action.

1st Place    Grangefield Oberon at Headholme NAF (Miss C & Ms S Allen & Hobbs) a super 9-month-old well boned and well grown young male who is impressive in head and expression with alert, clear eyes and firm erect ears. Well developed in body with good tight front and sound strong hindquarters. More refined in overall appearance than 2nd at his stage of development. Pleasing in side profile both standing and on the move. Moved enthusiastically and confidently. One having breed quality and promise.

2nd Place    Chrishama Magic Apprentice for Amenbury (Mrs Fiona Lee) an 11-month-old very attractive sturdy well grown B/W who is similar style to 1st but slightly heavier in body and stronger in head. He is well boned and has good body growth in line with his age. He is fairly long in body with good substance and a firm level top line. He needs to strengthen in hindquarters. Moved with a free easy gait but needs to settle more in front and have better parallel width behind; not untypical of a developing puppy

1st Place    Dom Corgi Focus of Gowerston (Imp Rus) TAF (Mr N G & Miss C M Thomas) a very smart 2-year-old attractively marked tri who is well grown and has a pleasing length of leg and overall outline. Breed typical head shape and head proportions with an alert, happy expression. Preferred his muzzle, bite and underjaw to 2nd. Decent front and fore-chest, well bodied with firm top line and nicely angled hindquarters. Would prefer more parallel hocks. Moved well and free.

2nd Place    Keerside Glenkiln at Bwthyn (Mrs J A James) attractively marked 13-month-old youngster who has a typy masculine head. Well grown in bone and body. Satisfying in overall length, substance, body proportions and balance in angles front and rear. Needs to strengthen in hindquarters. An eager and lively mover.

1st Place    Haveback Beech Haven (Miss J Cooper) a very smart 2½ year old quality youngster. He is totally together and is eye-catching in profile. He has firm substance in body, good proportions in length to height and pleases in front and rear angulations. He has the best of heads which is breed typical and masculine with nicely set ears of good shape and size. He has an attractive profile both standing and moving and was the best mover of this class. Certainly, has a bright future.

2nd Place    Kerman On Parole (Miss F Fricker) another notable 2½ year old quality young male who is of excellent breed type. Handsome well-proportioned shapely head set on strong good length neck and well laid shoulders. He is well boned and sturdy in body which is of proportional width and has obvious fore-chest. Needs to be more settled on the move and tended to lose top line.

3rd Place    Waterdeep Kosh (Mr & Mrs Burgoyne & Goddard) a substantially made 2-year-old who has noteworthy bone and body. Strong masculine head. Needs to tighten in front, feet and be more settled on the move to give of his best.

1st Place    Faarup Yn Syml Coch to Brynlluan (Mr B J & H D Essenhigh & Bishop) a striking 2-year-old Red who is well defined in body profile having clean quality lines all through. Pleasing head both in shape and proportions and attractive expression. Well-constructed forequarters with prominent fore chest. Preferred his front to that of 2nd. Sound body with good depth, spring, firm top-line and pleasing leg length. Strong nicely angled hindquarters of satisfying width. Moved with a true free action.

2nd Place    Ceranda Greatest Showman (Mrs C Davies) a mature 3-year-old male who has a pleasing enough outline and overall body shape and proportions. Masculine well-proportioned head which is set on a good length strong neck. Ears set well back. A little upright in front, sturdy well-made body and well angled hindquarters. Free and positive in movement although a little unsettled behind.

3rd Place    Wildcard Spot Check for Horcrux (Mrs Fiona Lee) a 4½ year old B/M who has a mature look. He has substance in body. Pleasing head, well made front, sturdy body, firm top-line and broad loin. Free mover but lacking the nimble action of 1st and 2nd.

1st Place    Ch Joseter Frazer Nash (Mr P Clifton) a super 5-year-old quality rich brindle male who is of excellent breed type and profile. He has a handsome head both in shape and proportions. Pleasing eyes, expression and ear set. Presents an eye-catching profile picture. So well made in front and forequarters with desirable fore-chest, sturdy well boned forelegs and well laid shoulders. Elbows close with good length ribbing. Strong, stable angulated hindquarters with desirable vertical parallel hocks. Free and purposeful on the move with extension in front and parallel width driving action in rear. My Reserve Dog CC.

2nd Place    Ch Bwthyn Headliner JW ShCM ShCEx (Miss B & Mrs J Williams & James) another top quality male who at 7 years of age is in prime shape and condition. Very handsome head both in appearance and expression. Head set correctly onto strong, good length neck which in turn is set onto well laid-back shoulders. He has a sturdy well-proportioned body with pleasing length to height proportions but not as firm in top-line as 1st. Moved well with good parallel width behind.

3rd Place    Am Ch/am Gch/pt Ch/cgc Blu Skyy's Ziggy Stardust (L, N & M Croft-Elliott, Wilson & Wilson) a sturdy, strong, well presented 5 year old B/W mature male who has an impressive standing appearance. Handsome breed typical head, strong neck, well boned and ideal substance of body. Confident and purposeful on the move but not as settled in action as 1st & 2nd.

Pleasing overall length and substance of body. Broad in loin and would prefer more obvious waist. Free forward and rear movement.

3rd Place    Trafox Black of Diamonds to Kogarahs (Imp Fin) (Mrs V A Roberts) a 10 year old B/W who in appearance contradicts his years and is a credit to his owner. He is smart in appearance. Looks good when standing naturally. Would prefer to be tighter in front both standing and on the move.

1st Place    Tyci Brenhines Briallen ShCM (Mrs B Piears) a 10-year-old dark B/merle shapely mature bitch, lacking full coat so her conformation qualities are very much on show to be appreciated. She has a lovely feminine breed typical head very attentive and engaging expression. She is well made in front and forequarters and with her good length body she has a very well-proportioned overall appearance. She was the better mover of this class.

2nd Place    Ch Swanpool Angelica at Huntsville (Miss D Hunt) another smart 10 year old mature B/W bitch of moderate size and breed typical shape. Pleasing head which is obviously feminine but also breed typical in appearance. Good fore-chest, pleasing body cover, firm and level in top-line. Needs to tighter in hindquarters on the move.

3rd Place    Gerefa Bella Starr (Mr R V & Mrs C A Froggatt) a nearly 10-year-old B/W who has a strong featured feminine head. Sturdy body of good length. Front and rear are nicely angled when standing. Tending to favour one front leg and so unsettled in front and close rear movement.

1st Place    Markados Pordios Freya for Gowerston (Imp Rus) TAF (Mr N G & Miss C M Thomas) an 11 month old very promising B/W youngster who has all the breed qualities and promise for a bright future. She is very well developed in bone and body and is well made all through with a lovely head, expression and impressive well-set ears. Preferred her front and forequarters to that of 2nd. Firm and level in top-line with a balanced profile and having just-right angulations front and rear. She moved out impressively with sound confidence. Best Puppy in Breed.

2nd Place    Lidoffad Cadno Gwillt (Mrs R Evans) a 10 month old amiable, typy youngster who has a pleasing side profile. Good in body proportions and overall body length. Needs to tighten in front and strengthen in hindquarters which can be noticed when standing and on the move. Happy temperament and happy tail.

1st Place    Kalwig Believe in Magic for Huntsville (Miss D Hunt) a well-made, well-grown 13-month-old shaded red who is a very typy, attractive young bitch. She has a good head shape of correct proportion. Pleasing front, fore-chest and forequarters with very good body make, shape and substance. I liked her overall profile both standing and moving confidently around the ring. Better mover of this class.

2nd Place    Keerside Edie Chaol (Mrs J Holmes) a very smart 13-month-old tri who has obvious feminine features. Attractive head of good shape, proportions, markings and expression. Tended to look broad across the chest and needing more obvious fore-chest. She is well grown in body, well angled front and rear but needs to tighten in hind action. She has enough leg length to allow free positive movement.

3rd Place    Keerside Kirtle Anna with Andersley (Ms M Aynscough) litter sister to 2nd and similar comments apply. She also is attractive in head and overall body appearance. Also tending to be broad in front and needing to strengthen and mature which will give improvements all around.

1st Place    Elessar Moon Dancer of Ancksunamun (Ms Graham) a very smart 2-year-old quality B/W youngster who is so satisfying in side profile. She has firm substance in body with ideal proportions in length, height and balanced in front and rear angulation. The most attractive of heads which is typical and feminine with nicely set ears of good firm shape and size. She has a striking profile both standing and moving and was the best mover of this class.

2nd Place    Bwthyn Hopes and Dreams (Mrs J A James) a quality 3½ year old well-made B/W smart mature bitch who is well boned and well bodied. Stands on strong legs and good feet tending to overly splay in front. I liked her body length and proportions and her general appearance filled the eye. Free and easy movement though just preferred 1st front action.

3rd Place    Glynaeron Glesni at Rhiwelli (Mrs Y V Caul) a very nice-looking 2-year-old B/merle of notable body and overall pleasing conformation. Lovely head and expression, strong neck, sturdy body, pleasing angles front and rear. Would prefer hocks to have more parallel width both when standing and on the move.

1st Place    Elessar Lunar Eclipse (Miss J Down) quality brindle/white 2-year-old bitch who is of the shape and style I like. She is sharp in profile having clean well-defined lines all through. Lovely head shape, clear dark eyes and large, erect, set well ears, all together presenting an alert, confident expression which edged her over 2nd. Satisfying forequarters with prominent fore-chest. Sturdy body with good depth, spring and ribbing, stands on sound legs and feet. Strong nicely angled hindquarters of proportionate width. Moved with a good true action in front and width behind.

2nd Place    Bymil Back to Blue (Miss S.E. Taylor) a mature 5-year-old B/merle who has a very attractive head in shape but a first look is not helped by her overly white head markings. However, her overall conformation and shape is there to be appreciated. Well made in front, which I preferred to 3rd, pleasing in forequarters, body and hindquarters. She moved with drive, a lively motion and unhindered action.

3rd Place    Caprian The Vixen JW (Mrs C A Langford) a very breed typical, attractive 4-year-old mature looking bitch who has a lovely head shape and good proportions. OK front although needs to tighten, decent forequarters with pleasing body length, top-line, make, shape and substance. I liked her overall profile both standing and on the move. Not as settled in action as 1st & 2nd.

1st Place    Ch Pi-Et-Ra of Trefilio Borntobe Avalanche JW (Imp Hun) (T Irving) a super breed typical 3½ year old impressive dark brindle bitch whose has undeniable qualities of conformation and breed characteristics. Gorgeous attractive head of excellent shape enhanced by pleasing sized, well-shaped ears which are ideally set and carried high. So well made in front, body of pleasing length with ideal substance, and all in proportion to height with enough leg length to allow true, free movement. Firm and level top-line with strong, stable angulated hindquarters, hocks parallel and of ideal width. A satisfying mover with true action in front and good width drive behind. My Bitch CC winner.

2nd Place    Dk Ch Balsau Corgi's Dream On Dicte (Mr M Saugmann) another super quality dark brindle who is 2½ years of age with so much potential and most certainly, promise to improve with age. Good to go over. Overall, she has a very attractive, smart appearance. Pleasing typy, strong but feminine head with an expression to match. She is soundly made in overall make and shape with everything in proportion and balance. A confident, free mover. My Reserve CC Bitch winner.

3rd Place    Ch Liebehund Jakku JW (Mrs J & Mr M J Lovell) another super bitch making up a trio of top Cardi bitches. Similar in appearance to those ahead of her. At 5 years of age, she is in her prime. She shares all the merits of those before but just needed to settle more to maintain her top-line and give of her best.

On the move she tended to be loose in front and needing to settle generally.
