Blackpool Championship Show 2022
Samoyeds
Judge: Mr Gary Scobell
Thank you to Blackpool & District Canine Society for the invitation to judge at their 2022 Championship Show,
In what were quite challenging windy conditions I was delighted in the performance of all exhibits and the sportsmanship of the exhibitors.
I make no excuses for my overuse of the word balance/balanced in this critique as I believe it should be one of the main points in any breed. Whilst I did find one or two glaring issues which I am happy to discuss I will always endeavour to find the virtues of the dogs I am asked to judge.
Post Graduate Dog (2 entries)
1st: Richardson’s “Sasoolka Ury” Strong masculine dog presented in good coat of good texture, balanced angulation which gave him decent reach and drive when settled, Pleasant head without coarsness, good arch of neck and nicely developed body, well carried tail.
2nd: Dodds’ “Bondsmoor Autumnal Breeze” rising two years old giving a balanced overall impression, nice head with good pigmentation, well placed ears of good size, good front, nicely developed body for his age, I think the wind affected him meaning he wasn’t striding out as expected
Limit Dog ( 1 )
1st: Pritchard & Roberts’ “Another Benji For Yoshi And Us (imp SVK) Impressive male of super construction, well proportioned masculine head with neat well placed ears, strong neck and well placed shoulders, forequarters strong and parallel, well ribbed and strong through the compact loin, strong and well angulated rear and presented a picture of balance when stood, in super coat of correct texture, unfortunately another who had the “wind up him” on the move so not as fluent as I have seen him before, a strong contender in the challenge and could not deny him Reserve Best Dog.
Open Dog ( 1 )
1st: Sisneros’ “Annecy Bright and Charm” 5 year old male of good stature, balanced angulation fore and aft, but lacking a little in coat and finish, pleasing head and expression, excellent pigmentation, correct proportions throughout, moved soundly if a little erratically at times.
Veteran Dog (2 entries)
1st: Divers’ “Nikara Dancing By The Light AT Murmansk ShCM” presented in fabulous condition, and possibly the best I have seen him look, his correct cream coat gave a golden hue as the light caught it, masculine with super head and expression, neat ears and moderate all through, nothing extreme about him and totally at one with his handler, good angulation, strength through the body and loin, not even the wind could hamper his performance today, delighted to award him Best Dog, Best of Breed and Best Veteran in Breed, it was a delight to see him carry on a super performance in the group where he was awarded 4th place in a strong Pastoral Group.
2nd: Young’ “Furzeland Devon Blaze Avec Cocosamel” Biscuit and White male, masculine and of good size, nice balance of bone and substance, matching angulation front and rear, good tail carriage but a little shorter in neck and heavier all through than 1, moved ok
Minor Puppy Bitch (1 entry)
1st: Dodds’ “Bondsmoor Kiss Me Kate” a super balanced young lady, with a typical outline, excellent pigmentation, pleasant head with darker eye, neat well placed ears and in super coat for one so young, body and loin not yet developed and strengthened which meant she was a little loose in rear when moving and found it difficult to get into a good rhythm.
Puppy Bitch (2)
2 delightful puppies with lots to like about them both:
1st: Gwynne’ “Rosnorske Royal Amethyst” what a delightful young prospect this is, balanced and in proportion, feminine and pretty but still showing she has strength all through, super head and expression, lovely arch of neck and well placed shoulders flowing nicely into and firm body and loin, rear angulation closely matching the front which gave her an easy ground covering fluid action, presented in super coat, very happy to award her Best Puppy In Breed
2nd: Tarasinska’ “Siberianmist Lagertha” my notes say “handled like a pro”, not the easiest of puppies but her young handler knew just what to do to get the best out of her. Super balance of size and substance, everything in moderation, good coat on her body but a little lacking on the legs and furnishings, moved out well.
Junior Bitch (4 entries/ 3 abs)
Both of these young girls had the “wind in their hair” and made the most of it. Making it difficult to assess movement but both were sound. Similar types and both had biscuit tips/shading to their coat
1st: Young’ “Cocosamel Camelia” in super body and coat, pleasant feminine head and strong arched neck, good shoulders and firm through the body and loin, well muscled and balanced throughout, correctly proportioned with a nice outline. Best Junior in Breed
2nd: Lepley’ “Sarnoushka Silver Spirit” very similar to 1 super head and expression with biscuit ears, just a little shorter in neck than 1 but clean lines throughout, nicely muscled and in firm body condition, coat of correct texture
Post Graduate Bitch (1)
1st: Helm’ “Annecy Dream of Reality” Nicely maturing bitch of good type, appeared slightly “long” as she was slightly shorter in leg so not so balanced as ideal, super head and expression, well placed neat ears and strong through the neck, presented in lovely firm muscle tone and great coat condition, moved out stylishly
Limit Bitch (4 entries)
What a lovely class this was and some super bitches presented to advantage which made it a difficult choice to put one ahead of another
1st: McGreadie’ “Nikara Neverending Dream For Frostia” super feminine yet still strong, beautifully proportioned head with well placed neat ears which gave her a super soft and inviting expression, presented in super hard condition, wonderful coat with correct texture, firm through the body and loin, well angulated rear gave her excellent propulsion to head a strong class.
2nd: Tarasinska’ “Charlotte Wolf in Sheep’s Skin” lovely bitch of super type, stronger in head than 1, well balanced and presented in fabulous coat, pushed 1 hard and in this class, moved out well with good reach and drive.
3rd: McRobbie & McRobbie-Dalchow’ “Mangata Jade Knight”
Open Bitch (5 entries/ 1 abs)
Another super class full of quality females
1st: Johnson’ “Nikara Sweet Dreams For Kimeekasams” super type, and every inch a Samoyed, delightful head with super expression and neat well placed ears giving a super feminine sweet expression, alert and showing herself to advantage, excellent coat of correct texture and presented to perfection, lovely balance of bone with correct well furred feet, Moved so freely and precisely with correct ground covering gait. Best Bitch and BOS
2nd: Collinson’ “CH Nikara Secret Love By Norjack” another from this famous kennel, lovely size and type, in super full coat, pleasing head and expression, good balance of bone and substance, well sprung ribs and firm loin, correct tail carriage, just not as precise as 1.
3rd: Brandenberg & Smith’ “CH Taronakits It’s Kwest JW”
Veteran Bitch (4 /2 )
1st: Collinson’ “CH Nikara Diamond Jubilee with Norjack” outstanding bitch in full coat and presented so well, feminine head with neat well placed ears, good neck and beautifully balanced throughout, correct angulation giving her super reach and drive and always showing her head off. Reserve Best Bitch and Best Veteran Bitch
2nd: Short’ “CH Zeelukzak Ice’N Glorious at Zakaytia JW” another who put on a good performance in the conditions, in full coat and presented well, feminine head but would prefer a neater ear, strong neck, firm through the body, nicely balanced bone with well matched angulation gave a super outline just not as precise on the move.
