Old English Sheepdog Club Of Wales Open Show

17/08/22

Many thanks to the Officers and Committee for the invitation to judge your Club Open show. A pleasing entry on paper with few absentees and I would like to take this opportunity to thank every exhibitor that bought their dogs in. The heat over the weekend was unbearable at times, so I was grateful for those that came, especially considering there was a double Ch. show in the afternoon. That said, none of the dogs seemed particularly bothered by the heat and we were lucky to be in the morning, when very slightly cooler. I also got the opportunity to steward one of the Ch shows in the afternoon so, all in all, a very enjoyable day spent amongst one of my favourite breeds!

VD/B (2) 1st Ch. Oldoak Kings Ransom At Darwillow. Super Ch. veteran boy of 9 years old. Gives off a square, compact outline and pleases for substance, bone and masculinity. Good head, muzzle and pigment. Reachy neck. Balanced angles front and back. Excellent body with typical topline. Moved very well. Good double coat, still has harsh texture and good break. BVIS.

2nd Grey Souls Black Swan To Lindisfarm. Feminine 7 year old bitch. Equally good shape as 1st. Pleasing to go over with enough substance and bone. Good overall conformation and pleasing coat. Moved well in all directions.

PGD (2) 1st Mirene Love Of My Life. Excellent young dog. Fairly tall and still needs time to mature fully, drop into his frame and finish in coat. Excellent masculine head, good strength all through and well proportioned. Large black, spongy nose. Excellent reach of neck. Strong bone. Good topline with typical rise. Sound, strong quarters. Moved very well showing enough reach and drive. Well presented coat. Has great potential and pleased to award him RBD.

LD (3) Two present here, but quite different. 1st Mellonars Go For Gold At Jandoes. Smaller built dog but still relatively masculine with quality bone and enough substance for his frame. Good strength of head, moderate neck. Compact outline. Good angulation front and back and low set firm hocks. Sound in all directions. Good coat for texture, colour and density and was well presented.

2nd Bovaron Going For Gold At Barcole. Very appealing for size and excellent ring presence, just slightly longer in loin and a bit unsettled on the move out and back. Excellent, masculine head with muzzle to compliment. Long, reachy neck. Good angles. Excellent coat, beautifully presented. Look good from profile on the move. Would have benefited from a larger ring today.

OD (2) 1st Raynham Bring Me Sunshine At Forestbelle. Medium sized boy that appeals greatly for his square outline, masculinity and overall ring presence. Excellent head and muzzle and typical big nose. Good pigment . Strong, muscular neck. Good depth of chest. Balanced angles. Firm body condition and strong bone. Excellent double coat, still to finish but has correct break and was beautifully put down. Moved with reach, drive and showing the breed typical ‘roll’. BD & RBIS.

2nd Mellowdee Paws In Thyme In Dominoesdale. Well grown, masculine dog. Pleases in head and muzzle. Excellent reach of neck leading to a well angled front. A bit long in loin so not the square shape of 1st. Good hindquarters. Coat ok. Moved well.

PB (2) 1st Jandoes Forget Me Not. The only pup present today but a really sweet, feminine bitch of much appeal. Liked her overall outline. Lovely head and expression. Moderately angled. Very good bone. Lovely coat for her age. Once settled moved out well in all directions. Shows promise. BPB & BPIS.

JB (2) 1st Lindisfarm Hope Redeemed. Delightfully feminine 14 month old. Loved her well balanced, square outline. Good head, medium neck and well developed in chest and body for her age. Excellent topline with gentle rise over loin. Good angles and excellent low set hocks. Moved freely and soundly. Good quality junior coat.

2nd Evertonian St Domingo Girl. Very slightly rangier built than 1st. Liked her head and outlook. Very good neck with balanced angles front and back. Coat changing at the moment but was well presented. Moved out well.

PGB (3) Three good bitches here. 1st Jandoes Ever So Scrumptious. The most mature in respect of body and coat in the class. Excellent outline, feminine but with good substance and bone. Really appealing head and expression. Good conformation and moved very well. In good double coat, clear colour and well presented. Should have a good future.

2nd Beauvallon Realms Of Glory. On the stack looked my winner. Ultra-compact outline with excellent reach of neck. Appealing head and muzzle proportions. Good angles and pleasing topline. Moved very well from profile but a bit close going away today. Quality coat coming through.

3rd Dalewood Winner Takes All. Completed a pleasing trio of bitches. Liked her for size, femininity and outline. Excellent coat. Just not as settled as those above her today.

LB (5) 1st Brinkley Out Of The Blue At Clenmaen. Excellent bitch of super type, size and outline. Excellent head, plenty of strength in both skull and muzzle. Large nose. Good reach of neck leading to a well laid shoulder and return of upperarm. Deep, roomy chest. Good bone. Excellent body and correct topline. Strong, well angled rear. Moved with plenty of reach and drive but still keeping the breed typical gait. Super coat for texture, density and clear colour. Just loved her and hope she gains her crown. BB & BIS.

2nd Dalewood Rags To Riches To Keynell. Smaller built bitch, ultra-feminine and excellent shape. Good head and typical outlook. Strong neck. Excellent angles and good topline with desired slight rise over loin. Moved at just the right speed to show her sound, typical gait. Not quite the finish in coat but what she has is of good quality and excellently presented.

3rd Zottels Just As Nice At Lammorick. Larger built all through. Very nice shape with pleasing head with sound conformation. Not quite the freedom of movement as those above her today, think she may have benefited from a larger ring. Superb coat.

OB (5) 1st Shaggybo Beautiful Dream. Lovely young bitch, just over 2 years and still not fully mature in coat but couldn’t be denied her place on her excellent conformation and typical, true movement. Feminine head but still showing strength to skull and muzzle. Excellent reach of neck. Good outline. Strong bone. Excellent presentation. Should easily gain her title. RBB.

2nd Meldale Diamond Moon. Liked the compact outline of this bitch. Quite workmanlike in outlook and I appreciated her functional qualities. Lovely head, moderate neck and pleasing in body condition. Looked well on the move from profile with a moderate, sound stride displaying a typical gait. Another excellent bitch that pushed the winner all the way. Excellent, quality coat.

3rd Mellowdee Coral Gladioli Of Evertonian. Slightly bigger built bitch, not as compact in outline but again quite functional in outlook. Pleasing to go over on the stack, strongly boned and has a good coat. Moved well in all directions.
