Crufts

Breed: Neapolitan Mastiff

Crufts 2022 Show Report

Neapolitan Mastiffs

A small entry consisting of mostly very typical Neapolitan Mastiffs. I found them all to be relatively sound and typical and temperaments were excellent throughout. Full marks to the very patient exhibitors who had to wait longer than expected as judging of other breeds in the same ring made for a very late start judging Neapolitans. It was therefore extra pleasing to see the eventual BOB winner make it into the group where he moved and performed so well.

Class 244. Puppy Dog

Entries: 2 Absentees: 1

1st Place Amori Son Like Mother (Miss G Pervenis), strikingly masculine puppy of correct type, very good head for age with excellent stop and typical lips, excellent body, coat and skin, wonderful bone, feet need to tighten, shown at a difficult stage, but moved ok and was in no way put off by the floor or the hustle and bustle in the hall. Best Puppy

Class 245. Junior Dog

Entries: 1 Absentees: 0

1st Place Makaevo Septimius Severus (Mr S Snaith), very sound, good-moving young dog who needs to develop in body and I would have liked more bone for a male, head is of good shape, but this also needs plenty of time to develop, excellent coat and skin, sound eyes, time will be his best friend, pleasing temperament

Class 246. Post Graduate Dog

Entries: 1 Absentees: 0

1st Place Master Zain at Makaevo (Mr M Evans) another very sound dog standing on good, strong legs, excellent bone, feet could be better and he needs to body up, good skull, deep stop, excellent lips and foreface, eyes could have been cleaner, presented a good outline on the move. Res Best Dog

Class 247. Open Dog

Entries: 3 Absentees: 2

1st Place Tommaso Goffredo's Taro (Mr M Mafi) alone in this class but well worth waiting for! Beautifully constructed throughout with very good front, excellent layback of shoulder, typical body and topline, sound behind, really good behind also demonstrated on the move, enough head with excellent breed points, very sound coat and skin and he was presented in excellent condition. The breed purists may well say that there could be more of him all over for a male, but his general build and soundness certainly make up for this. I had little hesitation in awarding him Best Dog and BOB.

Class 249. Veteran Bitch

Entries: 1 Absentees: 0

1st Place Makaevo Helena (Mr M Evans), 7½ ys old bitch, very slack in topline and she was shown in soft condition making her sluggish on the move, good skull, sound eyes, overly short in muzzle and I would have preferred better feet, good bone, more weight and harder muscular condition would have enhanced her. Best Veteran

Class 250. Puppy Bitch

Entries: 1 Absentees: 0

1st Place Makaevo Solista (Mr M Evans) 8 months old baby puppy, strongly made with good bone, body and coat, delightful temperament, sound eyes, ok behind, rather plain in head at this stage

Class 252. Post Graduate Bitch

Entries: 2 Absentees: 0

1st Place Elena (Imp Esp) (Miss P, Mr P Drake & Bishop)well-made dark bitch with excellent front, neck and shoulders, feminine head with many good points including sound eyes, typical mover, liked her a lot, just felt she could have done with more body and substance and perhaps also more bone for a mature bitch, very well presented. Reserve Best Bitch

2nd Place Ibi Lider Molos (Imp Pol) (J Meres) stronger in build than the winner with very good body and bone, very good head, eyes not as sound as I would have liked and she was very erratic and narrow on the move, good coat, ok temperament

Class 253. Open Bitch

Entries: 4 Absentees: 1

1st Place Ch/ew Ch Florida Ww (Mr A Bruno) very impressive substantial bitch with wonderful body properties, strong bone, good feet, most typical mover but giving her able young handler quite a match! Plenty of skull, wonderful expression, well-developed typical lips, good skin. Presented an excellent picture of the breed at its best, just had to give way to the extra soundness of the dog for BOB, but won Best Bitch with a bit in hand.

2nd Place Makaevo Onyx (Mr M Evans) good overall make & shape but rather light in build throughout and she was a little overawed in the ring making her somewhat difficult to assess, excellent legs and feet, needs to develop in body and gain confidence

3rd Place Sarafina Casa Di Fiducia (be) (Mr W & Mrs M Dowey)

Dan Ericsson (Sweden)
