16th JULY 2022
COLLIE (SMOOTH) – Judge Mrs. Cathy Howard (Shandlmain)
Many thanks to the Society for my first CC Judging appointment of Smooth Collies, fantastic friendly team and wonderful hospitality. The weather was very warm as predicted but an early start and a nice breeze was appreciated. Thank you to the Smooth Collie Exhibitors who honoured me with a lovely entry of 41 from 36 well presented dogs, and to my ring stewards, Paula and Jo, who were exemplary in keeping the ring running well.
Puppy Dog (3/0)
1 FRENCH, Ms Ann Elizabeth - Wynele Dressed To Thrill – 8 month old tri colour dog who oozes breed standard and fits it very well. Has a lovely masculine head with good planes and well placed correct almond shape dark brown eye, lovely flat skull with ears positioned correctly and used well when required. This dog has lovely substance about him, good length of back and tail, good forechest for his age and lovely front and rear angulation which showed how true he is on the move with great reach and drive, he covered the ring with ease, I was more than happy to award him the Res Dog CC and Best Puppy in Breed.
2 STANNARD, Mrs Caroline – Constella Black Eye Galaxy – 10 month old tri colour dog with darkest of jackets, lovely head and expression, well set and tipped ears, good length of neck, holds a good topline both standing and on the move but did not have the front and rear angulation of 1. Yet to develop fully but hopefully that may come down with time as he is a promising puppy.
3 WENSLEY, Mrs Rebecca Charlotte – Constella Hazy Cosmic Jive
Junior Dog (3/0)
1 STANNARD, Mrs Caroline – Constella Black Eye Galaxy
2 WENSLEY, Mrs Rebecca Charlotte – Constella Hazy Cosmic Jive – another lovely tri colour dog puppy being litter brother to 1 but in my opinion, more mature, much the same applies to his sibling with a lovely head and eye, well set ears good neck and length of back and tail, just today lost out as I would have preferred a better topline standing and on the move.
3 SEAGER, Mrs E – Blamorder Scale Force
Post Graduate Dog (4/2)
1 FLOWER, Miss Sarah – Breckamore Peaky Blinder at Lyndarn – A top drawer, well balanced, quality silver blue merle masculine dog of 2 years who I feel has now come into his own. Lovely clean wedge shape head with good underjaw, a kind and well placed eye, not deep through in back skull, well placed and tipped ears and a lovely length of neck, he has a fabulous forechest, wonderful substance, good length of back and tail and excellent front and rear angulation, well muscled giving him the strength and power of drive to effortlessly float around the ring like he could go all day, was a joy to watch him move today and it was my pleasure to award him the Dog CC and Best Of Breed. I hope his 3rd CC is not far away as he is well deserving of the title of Champion.
2 COWLING, Ms Elaine & LUSTY, Miss Abby – Blamorder Opulence at Himinnsaga – Blue Merle dog of 20 months, of good substance who is well balanced, a good head and eye and well set ears, good length of neck and has excellent front and rear angulation, moved well but was unfortunately unsettled by another dog just prior to entering the ring today. Colour needs to clear but he has time on his side, very promising for the future.
Limit Dog (2/0)
1 LUSTY, Miss Abby – Blamorder Bring Him Home – Tri colour dog with the blackest of jackets of almost 6 years, good head planes and ear set with ears well tipped, decent length of neck, deep chest, really good front and rear angulation, well muscled and moved well keeping a good topline to take this class.
2 MOORES, Miss Delia – Manordeifi Bow Regard – 6 year old sable dog, has a really lovely head and eye, well set ears, good length of neck, good front and rear and moved well but I would have preferred a firmer topline.
Open Dog (3/0)
1 NAULLS, Mr R – Ch. Wynele Indian Ink – Tri colour dog of substance and quality who is a worthy Champion at 3 years of age. He has a lovely correct head and expression with his eye being so correct and well placed, he has well placed and tipped ears a good length of neck placed in well set laid back shoulders, good length of back with tail just reaching the hock, he has lovely front and rear angulation and moved really well to take this class. Just pipped in the dog challenge for top honours today which I felt the heat may have played a factor in.
2 BEENEY, Mrs S M – Coneypark Black Sabbath – Quality Tri colour dog of nearly 6 years, another with jet black coat and deep tan to compliment, he is larger construction but all in proportion with excellent head planes, well set ears, good length of neck and has a wonderful forechest, excellent substance, good length of back and tail. I just preferred the movement of 1 today.
3 LOADER, Mrs Gill & Mr Allan – Ch. Coneypark Countdown for Allangill
Veteran Dog/Bitch (3/0)
1 BEENEY, Mrs S M – Ryecombe Jolly Jonquil at Coneypark – 10 year old sable bitch full of quality who is extremely pretty with correct head planes and a beautiful correctly placed eye, lovely length of neck, good forechest and good front and rear angulation, lovely spring of rib and good length of back, moved extremely well to win this class. Best Veteran in Breed
2 BENTON, Miss M K – Oakestelle Venus de Milo VW – Blue Merle bitch of 9 years who has a beautiful clear silver coat, well schooled, overall finer bitch but balanced, she has lovely correct ear set and good length of neck, moved well in profile but when moving away from me today she was wide behind.
3 MOORES, Miss Delia – Tomalca Buttons’n’Bows at Manordeifi
Special Beginners Dog/Bitch (3/2)
1 SEAGER, Mrs E – Blamorder Scale Force – This lovely deep black tri colour dog with rich tan markings of 15 months was placed 3rd in Junior Dog and although he stood alone in this class he was most definitely a worthy winner. In Junior Dog he was difficult to assess being full of beans but in this class he was more settled. He has a really lovely expression and good head although currently slightly flared in back skull but he has time on his side, he has lovely substance and good front and rear angulations with plenty of length to his tail. He moved really well in this class and once he decides to settle, he will be one to watch. Best Special Beginners in Breed.
Puppy Bitch (1/0)
1 CAULFIELD, Ms E R – Constella Vega Luminosa – A lovely 10 month old tri colour bitch with a beautiful head, such a lovely shape eye and good flat skull, expressive well set ears, good depth of chest and length of back and tail with decent turn of stifle, I would prefer slightly better return of upper arm, moved okay.
Junior Bitch (3/1)
1 NAULLS, Mr R – Wynele Obsession – 12 month old tri colour bitch of pure quality. One of 4 bitches I could have given top spot to today. She has a lovely head with parallel planes, correct almond shape eye, well set and tipped ears, lovely flat skull, good length of neck, well laid back shoulders and good front and rear angulation with good length of back and tail. Another lovely mover holding a good topline, from this kennel. Really pushed the eventual Bitch CC winner hard. Res Bitch CC.
2 MOORES, Miss Delia – Blamorder High Hopes for Manordeifi – 13 month tri colour bitch who is extremely pretty, she has a good wedge shape head but skull needs to flatten a tad more. Good length of neck, decent forechest with good front and rear angulation. Decent length of back and tail, good topline, moved okay.
Post Graduate Bitch (6/2)
1 BENTON, Miss M K – Brackenhaye Queen of Hearts of Oakestelle. Tri colour bitch of just over 2 years with deep black and good tan markings, excellent head planes, correct stop, lovely dark almond shape eye, a true wedge shape head with ears set and tipped well. Good backskull and length of neck, well laid back shoulders, good return of upper arm, well sprung rib, excellent bend of stifle, good length to tail. Today she moved well and although hard pushed, she could not be denied the Bitch CC and Best Opposite Sex from a quality line up.
2 BROWN, Mr Gareth & DAVIES Ms Mandy – Breckamore Blessings at Wystry – 19 month old tri colour bitch, another with good head planes and ear set although I would prefer slightly more fill of foreface but I am sure this will come given time, good length of neck, well laid back shoulders, good return of upper arm, spring of rib and length of back. Moved well.
3 MOORES, Miss Delia – Manordeifi Rose Blossom.
Limit Bitch (4/3)
1 SWEENEY, Mrs Jean & SWEENEY, Mr David & LUSTY, Miss A – Blamorder Do Quite Nicely – 3 year old blue merle bitch whose colour I would prefer to be slightly clearer but whom was another that was seriously considered for top honours, she is a lovely package with a lovely head and expression although her backskull I feel is only ever so slightly flared, but the rest of her is so well balanced overall with her correct stop and lovely expressive correct eye, well placed ears and good length of neck, she has a lovely forechest, correct lay of shoulder, good return of upper arm, good spring of rib and length of back and tail. She moved really well in her class.
Open Bitch (6/2)
1 BEENEY, Mrs S M – Coneypark Golden Brown – Extremely attractive sable bitch of 3 years. This was another that was seriously considered for top honours today and pushed really hard just missing out. She has a lovely expressive kind look about her with good foreface and stop and lovely dark almond eye but is another that is ever so slightly flared in backskull, ears are correctly positioned and well tipped enhancing that lovely look from her. She has good length of neck, lovely forechest and good length of back with excellent front and rear angulation, held a good topline on the move, moved really well in the class but in the challenge I felt she was slightly more sluggish, possibly down to the heat on the day.
2 FLOWER, Miss Sarah – Ch. Breckamore Butterfingers Sh. CM ShCEx – 6 year old tri colour bitch sporting the deepest of black jackets, head with good parallel planes and correct dark brown almond eye, correct stop, well set ears, nice length of neck, good front and rear angulation, holding a good topline, moved well.
3 FRENCH, Ms Ann Elizabeth – Wynele Alice Bluegown with Breckamore.
