Bearded Collie Club Of Scotland

Breed: Bearded Collie

Many thanks to the members for giving me the opportunity to judge at your annual Championship show, I’ve looked forward to this appointment for some time. Additional thanks to the Secretary and her committee for the warm welcome and the lovely Scottish hospitality that awaited me. A huge thank you to Alan and Lyn, my excellent stewards, who kept the day running so smoothly.

MPD 3(0)

1. Moir’s Winaria Wellington. Very promising and beautifully presented 7 month old slate puppy, appealing head with dark eye, good neck, lovely lay back of shoulder with good front construction, liked his shape and body proportions, even at this age he was balanced and free on the move, never stopped showing and pleased to award him BPD & BPIS.

2. Steel/Wallace’s Capelaw Raphael. Just short of 8 months and nicely constructed all through, masculine head and gorgeous temperament, strong neck and shoulders with clean front, correct body proportions and presented in good coat and condition, a little excitable but showed some promising movement in profile when he settled.

3. Johnson’s Beabeardies X’Factor For Wildan. 8 months old and not quite the construction, make or shape of my 1st and 2nd above, masculine head, strong neck and shoulders, good rib and short loin, very loose and erratic on the move and felt his tail set and carriage could have been better, would like to feel less product in his coat.

PD 2(0)

1. Moir’s Winaria Wellington. 1st in MPD.

2. Johnson’s Beabeardies X’Factor For Wildan. 3rd in MPD.

JD 3(1)

Two beautiful dogs.

1. Whelan/Young’s Old Smuggler’s Special Effect at Corimist (imp SWE). Immaculately presented brown of 16 months, lovely masculine head with kind expression and strong muzzle, good neck, excellent lay back of shoulder with good front assembly and strong well muscled rear which enabled him to move so fluidly around the ring, correct depth and shape of rib, good tail set and carriage, in lovely coat for age.

2. Nolan’s Talraz Badge of Honour. Another lovely male of 16 months who showed easy and free movement in all directions, lovely masculine head and expression, liked his angulation front and rear, nice deep chest with clean front, good bone, liked his depth and shape of rib, short strong loin and well muscled rear, another in excellent junior coat for his age.

YD 4(1)

1. Handley’s Bargemon Brigadoon at Barkenbear JW. 20 months, very masculine and well made throughout although I would like a shade more forechest, strong neck and shoulders with clean front, good depth and shape of rib, sound top-line and a lovely shape standing and moving, well muscled in rear, he moved out with a lovely easy, free flowing gait, presented in excellent coat and condition.

2. Ayrton’s Aoibh Drummer Boy JW. Another male of 20 months, not as finished in coat as 1 but he had an appealing masculine head with strong jaw and kindest of expression, nicely angulated front and rear with strong top-line which he carried well both on the stand and on the move, very free and easy in his movement and presented in well muscled condition.

3. Gault’s Osmart Tzara’s Midnite Jazz. A nicely made young dog of 19 months who just wasn’t prepared to co-operate with his handler today, masculine head with kind expression, strong neck and shoulders, ideal body proportions, carried his tail high, no mistaking his lovely temperament, when he focused he showed some promising movement and when he settles into his job I’m sure we will see a more polished performance.

ND 2(0)

1. Moir’s Winaria Wellington. 1st in MPD, 2nd in PD.

2. Walker’s Allachoy Dances With Wolves. 3 year old male in good coat but not as smooth in outline as 1st in and certainly not co-operating with his handler, masculine head and strong muzzle, strong neck and shoulders with decent body proportions, falling away a little in croup and not moving as fluidly as the winner of this class.

Really liked this 2½ year old male who was very masculine all through, strong head and kind, gentle expression, dark eye and strong jaw, good neck and shoulders with pleasing body proportions and good depth of chest, well muscled all through, would just like a little more extension and drive on the move, presented in immaculate dark coat.

Immacuately presented 2½ year old dog with rich, brown coat, very masculine and strong in head with correct skull and strong jaw, loved his gentle expression, appealed for his outline and sound construction with a good lay back of shoulder and well muscled rear, lovely depth of chest with correct rib and short loin, he moved out freely in all directions with no effort, considered him for top honours today.

2. Kuz’s Duncannas Special Edition at Strufingill JW. 4 years, not the substance, make or shape of class winner but still nice to assess, masculine head with kind expression, good length of neck with strong shoulders and clean front assembly, good depth of chest, correct shape and depth of rib, strong loin, moved out well in profile although would like a tidier gait on the out and back, presented in good coat and condition.

MLD 2(1)

1. Hinchliffe’s Pretty Bear Beautiful Bill at Croftdale (imp DEU). Brown boy of nearly 6 years carrying a rich, brown coat and in lovely condition, masculine head with lovely gentle expression, would like better body proportions and a shade more on his leg, good length and depth of rib with strong loin, his top-line could have been sounder, needs to relax into his stride to show better movement overall.

Well balanced male of nearly 4 years, masculine head with the most gentle expression and dark eye, beautifully angulated all through with good depth of chest, lovely length of rib with strong, short loin, in excellent, well muscled condition, he moved out with an easy ground covering gait, looked well both standing and moving.

2. Hollis’ Adjucet Tale As Old As Time. 3 year old male, not the biggest, but very ‘together’ in his appearance and movement, gentle head and expression with good pigment and dark eye, strong neck and shoulders, clean, straight front, good bone, nice body proportions, he moved out well covering the ground with ease.

3. Wood’s Pepperjay Bartholomew JW. Lovely male of 3½ years, masculine head with the gentlest of expression, good lay back of shoulder with clean front and good bone, good depth of chest with correct shape and length of rib, well muscled all through and very fit, dripping in a profuse coat which I felt spoilt his outline overall, moved out well.

Farmarens Drums Of Spring at Talraz JW (imp SWE). 3½ years, loved this male as a youngster when I awarded him the RCC for his quality, I’m glad his owners brought him here today, he looked balanced throughout and he couldn’t be over-looked for his polished performance. Masculine but not overdone in head with correctly balanced skull and good strength in muzzle, lovely length of neck that flowed into an excellent front angulation, good depth and shape of rib with short loin, lovely top-line and well muscled throughout, presented in the most perfect coat and he couldn’t be denied the DCC, BOS and RBIS today.

3. Glasgow’s JB De Chester at Gallus (imp FRA). Nearly 8 years, beautifully presented in good coat, masculine head and expression, lovely angulation front and rear with good neck and strong shoulders, good body proportions and he was shown in fit, well muscled condition, would just like him a shade stronger in top-line.

This was probably the hardest class of the day where any of these placed bitches could have swapped places, a class of real quality which bodes well for the future.

1.
