Irish Red and White Setters

I was delighted to finally get the chance to judge this beautiful breed after the dreaded pandemic put paid to my last appointment, thank you to the Committee for rescheduling it and to the exhibitors for such a lovely entry. When I saw my steward was the effervescent Colin Woodward I knew I was in safe hands, thanks for all your hard work Colin.

1st: WADE, MR David & WADE, Mrs V A Sh Ch Ballakinnish Malachi at Oldestone. I was a little taken aback when I was told he was 11 ½ years old, he is in fabulous condition and so sound on the move. Classic head with good length and depth to muzzle and a lovely width to the backskull. Strong through the neck and shoulder with deep well sprung ribs, he carried his topline well standing and moving. Just showing a little age in his coat and colour but a quality dog through and through. Best Veteran

1st: TATTERSALL, Mrs A Alanea Mirror Image. 8 month baby with a handsome head, so full of promise. Good length and depth of muzzle, well shaped eye with a soft expression. Cracking angulation front and rear with plenty of rib for his age. Clean oval bone, strong nicely arched feet. Just loved his sass on the move but he was straight and true when he put his mind into gear. One I will watch with interest Best Puppy

1st: BARNEY, Mr Julien Romaunt Lust For Life. Boy was he determined to give his handler a hard time but gentle sympathetic handling allowed me to assess him. Correct in muzzle with a good stop and balanced nicely with width of skull and bright eye. Strong through the neck and shoulder with a firm topline and well muscled rear. He was a bit bouncy and erratic on the move but I did get to see a good profile action.

1st: TAYLOR, Mr Mrs M I & W E Laoirebay Monte Carlo. Masculine head with a beautiful expression. Strong neck and firm topline with deep rib underneath. Broad in thigh with plenty of muscle but a touch lighter looking in weight than my ideal. Showed a driving rear action on the move.

What a fabulous class of quality dogs

1st: GARDNER, Miss T Sh Ch Alanea Game Reserve With Danwish. Fully mature male in fabulous condition. He has a truly noble head of lovely breed type with a correct dark eye and well shaped skull. Strong through the neck with a lovely forehand, deep well sprung rib under a firm topline which held true standing and moving. Clean legs and tight feet with oval bone, broad and well muscled in the rear. Finished off by a beautiful pearly white coat and deep red islands, his movement was strong and true in all directions. CC

2nd: TAIT, Mrs J Sh Ch Talintyre Winter Shadow. Another top quality dog I’m sure these 2 change places frequently. Strong head with balanced planes, dark well shaped eye and nicely set ear. Excellent angulation front and rear with well sprung rib and lovely topline. He had a free flowing movement off clean legs and feet and painted a gorgeous picture in profile, I just felt my winner was more finished in head today RCC

1st: SKENE, Miss Rhona Gail Rubethan Cake it or Leave it. 6 month baby at her first show and she handled it all fabulously with a happy, out-going temperament. Very pretty feminine head with a cheeky eye. When she relaxed and stopped having fun you could see an attractive outline with promising angulation and a lovely well marked coat. She did play up a little on the move but I saw enough to be happy with what I saw.

1st: HART, Mr & Mrs Gill & Graham Berryessa Ballderg with Gilliegrae. 2 year old bitch who has the best of outlines, when you look at her you could not mistake her for any other breed she has so much breed type. Pretty head with a melting expression and good width and shape to her skull, slightly arched neck flowed smoothly into a balanced front, I loved her topline and well muscled rear with strong legs and feet. Positive and true on the move she pushed hard for top honours just needs a touch more maturity and she will really come into her own.

2nd: TATTERSALL, Mrs A Alanea Silhouette. Substantial, honest bitch with good head planes and a pleasing soft expression, a touch more head would balance her out for me. Strong and deep in body with balanced angulation and plenty of rib. Moved out clean and true off correct legs and feet

3rd: 4698 HUTCHINSON, Mrs Sharon Siorrudh Red Velvet

1st: TAIT, Mrs J Talintyre Winter Spice. When I turned and looked at this bitch she caught my breath, she is so balanced and feminine with the most beautiful head and soft, melting expression. Slightly arched neck flowed smoothly into laidback shoulders with a lovely forechest and depth of rib. The flow carried on along a strong topline to an unexaggerated but well muscled rear. Her pearly white coat with its red patches gave the final touch of glamour and her free flowing movement was a joy to watch. CC & BOB

A cracking class, I was very impressed with them all

1st: GARDNER, Miss T Sh Ch Charnborough Charisma Of Danwish JW. A graceful bitch with a touch of elegance but in no way racey, she has a lovely outline that just shouts out for attention. Feminine, pretty head with a good width to the backskull and defined stop, expressive dark eyes gave a gentle expression. Excellent layback of shoulder with plenty of forechest and depth of rib.Just loved her topline and broad muscled rear. Strong oval boned legs and arched feet gave powerful, free flowing movement. Put down in topclass order with gorgeous red and whte markings. RCC

2nd: BARNEY, Mrs Rachel Sh Ch Romaunt Carry On Regardless With Verrami. From a different cast to first but still full of breed type although slightly more robust. She has lovely head planes with the most feminine expression but that extra bit of white does mean you have to look a little harder at it. I was very taken with her strong outline and excellent angulation, she moved out cleanly showing a lovely reachy stride,
