My thanks to all the exhibitors for making my day so enjoyable and to the committee of the NWLRC for the invitation. The weather was kind and although rain was threatened it stayed dry all day. I had a super entry in this challenging time and some lovely dogs to go over, I could have easily handed out a number of green and white cards.

On the negative side I was concerned with the general state of movement in the breed, I found many exhibits to be poor in this respect, they lacked the ground covering movement called for and I found that I was compromising on this element in some classes. A number of exhibits had short legs with their chest down below the elbow, this very much unbalances the dog in my opinion.

An issue that remains is the shortness in upper arms as this means incorrect front angulation and restricts the ability of the dog to stride out on the move and carry game efficiently. They need the angulation to do their job in the field. A Labrador is an endurance dog and should be able to work all day. Those with shorter upper arm have to expend more energy to do their job and therefore tire sooner.

1st Sh Ch Shannorell Soiree at Halshimoor

A grand lady who was certainly enjoying her day out. She is a beautiful yellow bitch with a pretty feminine head and expression. Excellent reach of neck and shoulder placement, good depth of chest and correct spring of rib. Good length of body and rear angulation, level topline, clean lines and balanced throughout. A very worthy champion. Best Veteran Bitch

2nd Afinmore Ardmore

Nice type of bitch, rising eight and a half. She has a lovely feminine head and expression. Good overall front construction and length of body with well barrelled ribs. Well-developed quarters with well bent stifles in lovely condition for her age and a credit to her owner. Ok on the move, didn’t have the drive as the winner but a super type.

1st Halshimoor Perfect Pitch at Shannorell

A lovely yellow puppy, well put together for her age and not overdone in anyway. She is clean in outline, has a lovely pretty head and expression which still needs to break but it is as she should be at this age. Clean neck into well set shoulders. Body developing well for her age, good through the ribs and into her loin. Well-made quarters. Very puppyish on the move so gave it away in the decision for BPB, a very smart youngster with bags of promise.

2nd Balladoole Lucky Dip

Out of a different mould to the winner but still very appealing to my eye. She is well made with good overall proportions with a pleasing expression, good clean reach of neck which was set into well-placed shoulders, decent return of forearm. She has a well-turned stifle and well let down hocks. At that growing stage today and a little soft in topline as a consequence. Wasn’t as fluid on the move in front action as the winner today so had to settle for the second spot.

1st Kimbajack Miss Jazz Swinger

A very pretty bitch of 11 months with a pleasing head and expression enhanced by a lovely dark eye. Clean reach of neck and well-placed shoulders. Good front angulation and standing on well boned legs and neat feet. Good length of body, ribs correct for her age and a super outline. Quarters well made. Shown in good condition, decent coat on her. She held her outline on the move well and had a fluid action. I was delighted to award her Best Puppy Bitch and later with my co-judges agreement Best Puppy in Show.

2nd Oakhouse Oti Mabusi Naf Taf

Another nice puppy with a lot to like about her, pleasing overall type and clean outline. Sound mover who covered the ground well, which gave her this place. She is well made with a pleasing expression, good clean reach of neck which was set into well placed shoulders. Good size for her age, in overall proportion. She has a well-turned stifle and well-let down hocks. Good on the move with decent footfall, just needs a bit more confidence and to use her tail a little more.

1st Rudidale All That Jazz at Suttonpark

This young bitch of 13 months took my eye when standing. Very feminine in head and expression, she has a clean reach of neck, which led on to well set shoulder. She stands on well boned legs and neat feet. Good spring of rib and length of body. Correct top line and well-made quarters with adequate bend of stifle, short from hock to heel. Movement was good, with accurate footfall.

2nd Crammondkirk Oh My

A very stylish black bitch who presents a super clean outline on the stack. She has a lovely head and expression, enhanced by a super eye. A good reach of neck, which led into correctly placed shoulders, needs a little more return of forearm. A good length of body and well-made quarters with a nice turn of stifle and well let down hocks. She has super profile movement but was untidy as she came towards me. A smart young lady just needs a bit more confidence, if she keeps developing along these lines, she should have a very bright future ahead of her.

This black bitch caught my eye when she entered the ring, she has the cleanest of outlines and she did not disappoint when I put my hands on her. She has a feminine head and expression, a lovely clean reach of neck which led on to correct well placed shoulders, would like a little more return of upper arm. For her age she has a good spring of rib and length of loin, excellent rear angulation. She was shown in full coat and superb condition, moved out well with plenty of drive. Another promising youngster.

2nd Ramsayville Russian Rhythm

Completely different type of bitch to the winner, but quality throughout. Well-made bitch with a lovely outline, just carrying a little weight over her shoulders. She has a good reach of neck which led into well-placed shoulders. Well boned legs and neat feet. Plenty of depth to her chest for her age, good length of body leading on to powerful quarters. Movement was good and driving. In good coat condition.

A very stylish yellow lady who presents a super clean outline on the stack. She has a lovely head and expression, a good reach of neck, which led into correctly placed shoulders. A good length of body and well-made quarters with a nice turn of stifle and well let down hocks. She has super profile movement which gave her the class. A super young lady, if she keeps developing along these lines, she should have a very bright future. Please to award her the RCC.

2nd Wynfaul Dancing Flame JW

Well-made bitch with a clean outline. Head of good proportions but I would like a slightly darker eye. She has a good reach of neck which led into well-placed shoulders, would like a shade more return of upper arm. Well boned legs and good feet. Good length of body leading on to powerful quarters. Held her topline throughout. Movement was good and driving.

Nicely made lady who has a good shape, her head is feminine. Good neck in to well set shoulders and a decent amount of return of upper arm. Well made in body with decent spring of rib for her age and a firm loin. Well made quarters, with stifles well bent. Did enough on the move. Handler needs a bit more confidence but that will come with practice.

A stylish yellow, with a lovely pleasing head and expression, clean reach of neck into well placed shoulders and a good return of upper arm. Standing on well boned legs and neat feet. Good depth of forechest for her age and spring of rib, proportionate length of body and well-made quarters. Movement was positive and free flowing; she has a super side gate. Right up my street and very close up to top honours today.

Decent shape on this black girl, her head piece is feminine, she has a good eye and balanced proportions. Neck into shoulder is good. Good through the body with decent angles front and rear. Personally, I would like a little more length of leg on her. Quarters well developed for her age, decent bend of stifle. Moved out well to take this place.

This young bitch caught my eye when she entered the ring and she did not disappoint when I put my hands on her. I liked her overall shape and balance. She has a feminine head and expression, a lovely clean reach of neck which led on to correct well placed shoulders. She has a good spring of rib and length of loin, excellent rear angulation, stifles well bent. She was shown in full coat and superb condition. Good action on the move.

2nd Tullochmohr Tura to Binnaig NAF TAF

She has a pretty head and expression with a good reach of neck and a plenty of depth of forechest. Shoulder placement is OK, just needs a tad more upper arm. She has a proportionate length of body, good well-developed quarters for her age. Moved out well with a good action. Carrying a shade too much weight on her shoulders today which spoilt her outline.

A stylish yellow, with a pleasing head and expression, good shoulder placement, standing on well boned legs and neat feet. Good depth of forechest for her age and spring of rib, proportionate length of body and well-made quarters, held her topline well throughout. Movement was positive and free flowing.

2nd Straithhunker Yibambe

Nice type of girl, she has a good shape about her and today was in super coat and condition. He head is attractive with good depth of muzzle. Neck clean, decent lay-back of shoulder but needs a little more return of upper arm. Good depth of chest and spring of rib and quarters well developed for her age. Moved out well, needs to tighten in front action. On the stack she has a tendency to knock her head backwards and correspondingly dips her topline and that cost her the class.

This lady came into the ring I thought she was stunning. She has a super head piece with feminine expression enhanced by lovely eyes. She has a super clean reach of neck which led in to correct well placed shoulders. She has a good spring of rib and length of loin, excellent rear angulation. She was shown today in good coat and superb condition. Her movement was positive with a good action, this carried through to the challenge where she excelled. I could not see anything to touch her, and her performance was spot on. Delighted to award her the CC her first, and I wish her well with the other two.

Another good mover who covered the ground well. This yellow bitch is very appealing. She is well made with a pleasing expression enhanced by a lovely dark eye. I liked her clean reach of neck, which was set into well-placed shoulders, standing on good legs. Good overall proportion. Ribs well sprung and firm through the loin. She has a well-turned stifles and well-let down hocks. Held her top line well throughout. Accurate on the move with good foot fall. Considered for the RCC.

This young bitch took my eye when standing. Very feminine in head and expression, she has a clean reach of neck, which led on to well set shoulder. She stands on well boned legs and neat feet. Plenty of depth of chest, good spring of rib and length of body. Correct top line and well-made quarters with a good bend of stifle. Movement was ok just rather untidy as she came towards me which cost her in the challenge.

2nd Cashallie National Trust of Lisvella

A stylish yellow, well made, good shoulder placement and depth of forechest. Good spring of rib, slightly long in loin, well-made quarters. Movement was good and free flowing with decent footfall just lost her topline on the move. Clean in outline. Well-handled to advantage. Preferred the head and expression the winner. A nice type of bitch who should do well.

I have seen this lady from the ringside and always thought she had style. She has a pretty head and expression, a good reach of neck leading on to well set shoulders. Good depth of body, super rear angulation and overall presented a lovely clean outline. Coat was in good condition. Her positive flowing movement won her this class. Shortlisted her down to the last few in the challenge for consideration but she had a shade too much weight on her today and flagged a little on the last run round which was a shame.

2nd Kiss Me Quick Sykstus of Labgold

Nice type of bitch. She has a lovely feminine head and expression. Good overall front construction and length of body with well barrelled ribs. Her outline is clean, and she flows from her neck to her tail. Ribs well sprung and would just like a little more in her quarters. Super on the move with a good fluid action.
