Hound Association Of Scotland

Championship Show

9th April 2022

Thank you to the committee for their kind invitation and to the competitors for their entry. Sadly this date coincided with The Deerhound Club three day breed show, so although the entry was lower than usual, I had some lovely hounds to go over.

Thank you to my stewards for their hard work.

Junior Dog (1,0)

1st Wallace – Kilbourne Claude McAdam – Best Junior

A young lad at his worst stage, being raw and very gangly. Nice head with good topline although a little upright in front angulation. Harsh weatherproof coat. Enough bone with good feet. Lovely temperament. He has put all his condition into growing at the moment so a little lean for my liking.

Novice Dog (1,0)

1st Wallace – Kilbourne Claude McAdam

Limit Dog (2,0)

1st Dawson – Stranwith Ratagan at Stubbylee – RCC

Played his handler up today but I saw enough to assess. Not the biggest of males, but with typey head. A llittle bit straight in shoulder and could have a better return of upper arm. Movement a little erratic. Harsh coat. With a bit more schooling could show him off a bit better. Nice depth of chest with ribs carried well back.

2nd Freeman – Lilac Wind Ozymandias at Glooscap (Imp FRA)

Nice enough type with rough coat. A little narrow all through, lacking fill of brisket. Nice topline. Head masculine with well set ears. A little long at hock and movement could be more positive, showing better drive.

Open Dog (1,0)

1st Freeman – Lilac Wind Montgomery Clift to Glooscap (Imp FRA) - CC & BOB

Very good breed type, all male with lovely head, good hound expression and well set ears. Good bone and substance all through. Correct topline and underline. Good width to thigh with lovely low hocks. Good croup with nice tail set. Well placed shoulders with balanced angulation. Good depth of chest and ribs carried well back. Moved parallel behind, could be more enthusiastic. His first CC I believe, congratulations.

Puppy Bitch (1,0)

1st Spence – Caraidanam Bryach Na Frithe at Brylach - BP

A real baby and very raw. Feminine with a nice head and dark eye. Good bone and tight feet which were well knuckled. Good outline with correct top and underline. Better front than many for her age. In good coat.

Junior Bitch (2,1)

1st Lyndsay – Leoch Oransay at Silverthyme

A racier type with a feminine head, lovely dark eye which gave her a good expression. Good coat texture. Front okay but lacking fill of brisket. Narrower pelvis, so close going away and a little longer in hock, therefore lacking power and drive.

Novice Bitch (1,0)

1st Robertson – Stranwith Sibyl

Smaller type with pretty head with well placed ears. Curvy outline with nice fall away. Tight feet and harsh coat. Correct front but moved close behind. A little long at hock.

Graduate Bitch – No Entries

Post Graduate Bitch (3,0)

1st Swanson – Altimarlach Archangel – RCC

2nd Jackson – Kiloeter Unique

Both very nice bitches with lovely breed type. Both were feminine with good heads and dark eyes, fine ears well held. Correct bone and well knuckled feet. Harsh coats, well presented. Prefered the front assembly of first and she just moved a little better all round.

3rd McAlpine – Gentiehun Iso Harmaa Koira

Limit Bitch (2,0)

1st Murray – Kenaiteen Seatons Angel at Steelwill

Another nice stamp of bitch. Good outline with well placed shoulders. Nice depth of chest. A little weak in pasterns but tight feet. Nice movement in profile but rather close going away.

2nd McAlpine – Gentiehun Iso Harmaa Koira

Smaller type, with feminine head and dark eye. A bit raw at the moment. Moved well in profile with good reach, however coming and going a little erratic. Enjoyed her day out.

Open Bitch (1,0)

1st Robertson – Chuilinn Loredana - CC

A super type who looks like she could do her job. Good balance fore and aft with correct shoulder placement and good return of upper arm. Bladed bone with well knuckled feet. Powerful quarters with great width across her hips. Shown in harsh coat. Was a hard decision between her and the PG bitch for CC but this bitch held her topline better on the move.

Veteran Bitch (2,1)

1st Lindsay – Celticmoon Shadow Huntress at SIlverthyme - BV

A very feminine girl of good size and proportions. Well boned and good feet. Correct croup with good fall away. Harsh coat. Moved true enough but not the most enthusiastic.

Special Beginners Bitch (1,0)

1st McAlpine – Gentiehun Iso Harmaa Koira – Best Sp Beginners
