South Wales Canine Association – WEIMARANERS:

Thank you to SWCA for the invitation and to the exhibitors for the privilege and pleasure of judging your dogs. I have watched this ‘aristocratic’ breed with interest for the past 35 years and observed many changes. Most exhibits were shown in good condition, but some were impacted by poor handling and speed does not always create soundness.

1. Rayner & Maskell’ SH CH GUNALT ACADEMY OF RAYSTANS JW SH.CM - Noble, Masculine head, with no sign of coarseness. Clean neck into well-developed correctly placed shoulders, front straight and true, well ribbed body, strong in loin and firm topline which was retained on the move, correct rear angulation, shown in excellent condition.

1. Brown & Filby - DESJIEM BILLY DON’T BE A HERO - Regal head with correct proportions. Intelligent expression and good ear placement. Good bone quality, straight front but feet need to tighten. Young dog who shows promise. Moved well.

1. Razzell, Hazeltine & Crowther’s HUNDWITH CHECKMATE OF COROTINE JW. - A young dog with plenty of ring presence. I liked his moderately long head, correct eye with intelligent expression with correct length and ear set. Clean neck leading into well placed shoulders, good depth of chest and well sprung ribs. Correct angulation front & rear displayed on the move with strong level topline. Covered the ground with ease when settled.

2. Hawkins SMILEK FERNANDO JW - Masculine in head and expression, good reach of neck into correct lay of shoulder and length and return of upper arm. Correct body proportions, ribs sprung and well back to a firm loin, good quarters with defined muscle. Stands on good legs and feet.

1 Alcorn & Ingram- SH CH GUNALT HENDRICKS - Impressive both standing and on the move. His aristocratic head with correct proportions shows no sign of coarseness. Correct eye shape with intelligent, keen expression portraying his alert and friendly disposition Moderate length of neck leading into excellent front angulation, straight, well boned legs and good feet. Well sprung ribs and strong in loin. Excellent angulation both fore and aft which was clearly displayed in him retaining his strong level topline and powerful, ground covering movement. Shown in excellent condition and expertly handled to show off his many attributes.  CC & BOB.   Delighted to see that he later won the Gundog Group and Reserve Best in Show.

2 Rayner & Maskell SH CH KALIMOR ACCOLADE TO RAYSTANS JW - Quality exhibit presenting an overall picture of masculinity and strength. Pleasing head and expression. Excellent bone quality, straight front and neat feet. Similar to winner he has good angulation both front and rear but felt that on the day winner was more precise in his movement around the ring. Pleased to award him Reserve CC.

1 Mutlow’s BRAEFELL GOSHAWK JW - (3rd in Open Dog) Unlucky to meet the CC and RCC in previous class. He won this class on his overall balance. Good head and expression and moved with purpose.

2 Hunter’s BRAEFELL DRAGONFLY - (3rd In Limit Dog) Pleasing head and expression. Presented in good condition but lost out on the balance and movement of 1.

1 Tierney GUNALT ELDERFLOWER AT GREYFURS TAF - Quality puppy with lots to like. Feminine, aristocratic head with correct length and set of ear. Correct eye shape with alert expression. Moderate length of neck into well laid shoulders and good length and return of upper arm. Moved with drive and purpose and one I will watch with interest. Best Puppy in Breed. Delighted to hear that she had been awarded Gundog Puppy Group 2

2 Phillips FARNFELD DEJA VU FROM RIVERTONE - Another quality puppy with a lovely, feminine head. Correct proportions all through with her clean, balanced outline. However, on the day her movement was not as fluid as winner.

1 Maskell, Rayner & Maskell ENJAGER HARMONY WITH BROWNBANK JW - Stylish bitch with lots to like. Nothing exaggerated with everything in moderation displayed in her flowing outline. Covers the ground with ease and yet purpose.

2 Pilatova SABSKY SVRATKA - Feminine bitch with no sign of coarseness. Pleasing balanced outline. Looked lovely standing but went to pieces on the move which gained the other exhibit the class win.

Class: Yearling Bitch Entries: 2 Absentees: 1

1 Rodgers SH CH MINSTERGATE CARNIVAL JW - Although stood alone in this class deserved award. Classical feminine bitch with no exaggerations. Correct outline and body proportions. Correct eye with alert, intelligent expression. Good bone quality, straight front and neat feet. Good depth of chest and ribs well sprung into strong loin. Good angulations both fore and aft. It became apparent she likes to do what she wants to do and gave her handler a difficult time. Fortunately settled on the move covering the ground with purpose and ease. In the challenge was more settled and pleased to award her CC.

1 West’s GUNALT WAVELENGTH - Everything in moderation. Liked her classical head with correct expression. She is clean in outline good layback of shoulder and well sprung ribs. Level topline retained on the move and correct tail set. Moved with precision and shown in good condition.

2 Pilatova SABSKY SASANKA - Lovely head and expression. Correct ear length and set on. Many of 1 remarks apply but on the day she lost her topline on the move. Winner was more settled on the move and shown in harder condition.

3 Reakes THRIHYRNE LOVE LETTERS

Class: Limit Bitch Entries: 4 Absentees: 1

1 Kelly’s KALIMOR AMAZING GRACE AT VANSANT - Pleasing head and expression. Good bone quality, straight front and neat feet. Overall outline may have been enhanced if she had been more enthusiastic on the move.

2 Read’s PHOEBE DU TANGO DES NEIGES ETERNELLES AVEC WHITECROSS - LH bitch. Ultra feminine head with correct length of ear and set. Straight front legs, good bone quality. Moved okay when settled.

3 Standen’s HUNTERSFREND ASIA

Lovely class and I am sure that these exhibits will change places many times but today…

1 Howarth & Haseley’s GUNALT ARTICULATE AT GREYFURS - This lady is so clean in outline with no exaggerations. Feminine head with correct eye and expression. Good depth of chest, straight front, and neat feet. Good angulation and muscle tone which was displayed effectively on the move when she settled. In the challenge settled to the task and was pleased to award her the Res CC. Informed she is the mother of my Best Puppy.

2 Phillip’s RIVERTONE HEAD ABOVE WATER - Different type to 1. Ultra feminine, with lots to like. Close decision but preferred the overall balanced picture of winner.
