Mid Western Gundog Society

A very friendly show, with excellent entries on paper, just missing a few on the day, particularly in Brittanys where unselfish exhibitors showed great respect for others by not bringing dogs with the dreaded Kennel Cough to the show. I very much enjoyed judging all the dogs present and thank all exhibitors for bringing their dogs for my opinion and behaving in a sporting manner. It all made for a very pleasant day.

BRITTANY

Puppy (2, 1 absent)

1st Holt's ROCHUS STARBURST, 8 months O/W B, utterly charming baby, exuberant & friendly, like many "Lockdown puppies" needs to learn ringcraft & for that made it difficult to assess her movement today, she has a pretty head developing well, dark eyes giving a delightful expression, correct high-set triangular ears, excelled in neck & front assembly, liked her body proportions & balance giving her a typical square & cobby appearance, broad thighs, perhaps a little long in hind legs at the moment although that could well improve as she grows into herself, well muscled & standing on tight feet,  BPIB

Yearling (1, 1 absent)

Graduate (4, 3 absent)

1st Finch's PATOUCHE PEIAM AM CETGUELI, 2 1/2 years B/W B, square in appearance, overall found her rather more elegant than cobby, pretty & feminine head with lovely expression, would prefer less length to her muzzle & neck, has good width in front & moderate front angulation, stands on strong & straight front legs, tight well-rounded front feet, lighter all through body than I would expect to see, but with enough rib & short in loin, liked her width of thigh which was well-developed, correct moderate rear angulation with hind feet slightly longer than front feet, her movement was light and effortless.

Open (7, 5 absent)

1st Anderson's ROCHUS NOBLE, B/W/T almost 4 yrs mature D presenting a typical square & cobby outline, well muscled & substantial in build with good bone throughout, I liked his slightly-rounded head which was masculine and well balanced with his muzzle, moderate stop & well-shaped dark eyes giving him a charming intelligent expression, moderate length of neck, big ribs, deep chest, strong in loin & thighs, moderate angulation front & rear, initially a little unsettled moving but did get into a proper brisk stride showing energy & enthusiasm, very pleased to award him BOB & delighted to see him make the "first cut" in a large Group for BIS.

2nd Finch's JASSENDUE MANET'S MEDLEY AM CETGUELI, O/W, 5 yrs D, another with a pleasing cobby & square outline, not quite the overall substance of 1, but body proportions were correct, has a well-balanced head with correct eye shape & colour, found his bright & kind expression quite delightful, muzzle was a good shape & length, moderate length of neck leading to excellent front angulation, straight forelegs, deep in chest with well-rounded ribs, perhaps a shade longer in loin & a little more rear angulation than 1, his movement was free & animated, RBOB.

Yearling (3, 1 absent)

1st Kemp's NETHERHILL EUROZONE TO KHAMSYNN, 16 months D, pleasing & well developed outline for a "teenager", strong  head, would prefer a slightly cleaner foreface to enhance the aristocratic look so desired in this breed, but everything was in proportion, strong & clean in neck which perhaps could have been a shade longer, plenty of forechest & well-laid shoulders, would prefer a slightly better front as standing a little "10 to 2" at the moment, excellent depth to chest, well ribbed back, strong in loin, very strong hindquarters which were well muscled & propelled him round the ring effortlessly showing plenty of power

2nd Reake's THRIHYRNE LOVE LETTERS, 12 months L/H B,  just out of Puppy & giving away so much in age & development to 1, my notes say "as pretty & feminine as 1 was strong & masculine", has a delightful feminine head & the kindest of expressions, also standing slightly "10 to 2", needs to develop in forechest but has a reasonable depth of chest and promises much by way of balance in body proportions, has good width of thigh & good rear angulation, she was very unsettled today due to a delayed arrival & didn't give of her best on the move, with time & maturity I am sure she will come into her own.

Graduate (3, 1 absent)

1st Pearman's WEIPOWER DENTON AT BRITMANS, 21 months D, giving his handler a hard time, when he was standing correctly he presented a good outline with reasonable balance & proportions, masculine in head which was well-shaped & balanced, preferred his leaner & finer foreface to 2, good reach of neck into reasonable front angulation giving enough forechest, straighter in front than 2, deep chest, ribs extending well back, strong in loin & hindquarters with well muscled thigh, topline inclined to roach standing but held better on the move when he did get his act together, BOB today on his overall fitness & super clearly visible muscle tone, just feel he needs to relax more in the ring

2nd N EUROZONE TO K

Open (3, 0 absent)

1st W DENTON AT B

2nd Burgess' GUNALT VETTEL TO HANTZBURG, 2 1/2 years D, initially thought that he would be my BOB, appealed for his overall proportions, balanced & masculine in head with the right amount of stop, clean in foreface, pleasing eye & expression, good length of neck into well laid shoulders, straight front, deep in chest with good ribs, preferred his underline to eventual BOB having a more moderate tuck-up, good width of thigh, not as well muscled as BOB & this showed here in his looser topline standing & moving & lesser drive, pleased to award him RBOB

3rd Burgess' GREYSPIRIT ROCK STAR FROM HANTZBURG JW

AV SPANIEL

Puppy (2, 2 absent)

Yearling (2, 1 absent)

1st Sewell's KERRIGLOW CAN CAN FOR QUATTROZAMPE, 18 months black Cocker Spaniel B, presented a compact & square outline, feminine & refined in head & muzzle which were well balanced, lovely dark eye giving a gentle expression, excelled in neck, front angulation & depth of chest, big ribs, firm topline, well bent stifles & strong in rear, moved smoothly, could perhaps benefit from a little more substance all though, but overall a well-constructed, balanced & sound young lady presented in excellent gleaming coat & condition, Best AV Spaniel.

Graduate (3, 1 absent)

1st Swietalski's FRED SIOP GANOL INTO BOWSWIZZLER, 2.5 years Sussex Spaniel D, strongly made throughout, handsome head with wide moderately-curved skull & that typical Sussex "frown", could perhaps be a fraction longer in muzzle to give better balance to depth but acceptable, kindest of expressions, liked his muscular neck & front assembly, deep & strong through body with no "waistiness",  level topline supported by plenty of rib & firm loin, good leg length, wide well-muscled thighs,  large well rounded feet, his construction & charming personality showed in his typical true movement.

2nd James' WOODSONG PITCH PERFECT (IMP FRA), 2 years liver Field Spaniel B, such a pretty girl with a well-defined balanced & lean head, dark well-shaped eyes giving her a delightful gentle expression, strong neck leading to good front assembly, her chest was deep & ribs were well-sprung & of a good length, she had strong bone throughout & was presented in good coat & condition, in a slow-maturing breed she still needs to develop in hindquarters, but time is very much on her side, unfortunately she was not putting all in to her movement today.

Open (4, 4 absent)
