Coventry & District Gundog Society

My sincere thanks to the Officers and Committee for the opportunity to judge at this well-organised and friendly show, and also to the exhibitors for bringing their dogs for my opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed my appointment.

RETRIEVER (CHESAPEAKE BAY)

PUPPY (1, 1 absent)

JUNIOR (1, 1 absent)

POST GRADUATE (2, 1 absent):

1st - Coppin & Davies-Jones & Murch's PIXIESROCK QUEEN OF HEARTS AT ELWISTONE, 2 years brown B who presents a powerful & workmanlike outline, good body proportions, pretty & balanced feminine head with medium stop & correct pointed muzzle, high-set ears of correct relatively small size, strong neck, could be slightly straighter in front & a little longer in upper arm, but has enough forechest, deep in body with well sprung ribs and good tuck-up, firm level topline,  moderate bend of stifle, harsh oily outer coat & dense woolly undercoat, not completely at ease today & lacked the driving movement of BOB, RBOB

OPEN (1):

1st - Coppin & Davies-Jones' DALLANDOR JOCASTA, 5 years dark straw B, strong & muscular in appearance, giving immediate impression of  power, broad  rounded skull  with well-shaped muzzle & medium stop, ears set high, powerful neck leading to sound front assembly, particularly liked her excellent forechest, depth of body & spring of rib, set off nicely by correct tuck-up, broad hindquarters set slightly higher than withers, well bent stifles,  moved effortlessly with power & drive, oily harsh top coat, shedding her undercoat but still plentiful & woolly in texture, BOB & delighted to learn that she later went BIS4.

SPANIEL (FIELD)

PUPPY (2):

1st - Harnett's FLYENPIG FIRST LADY, 11 months Liver B, unmistakably feminine in appearance, built on smaller lines with good bone, giving very pleasing outline, pretty nicely-balanced head already showing chiselling & leanness in foreface, loved her well-shaped dark eyes & charming expression, strong in neck & feet, straight in front, still something of a baby in body but she has enough depth of brisket & length of rib to show good proportions, her correct front & rear angulation certainly showed in her sound movement, very happy nature & enjoying herself far too much to stand still, time will be her friend, BPIB

2nd - Moore's CLANDRIFT HOTSHOT TO GEMELBET, 6 months Liver  D, has tremendous ring presence, strong in appearance with excellent bone, loved his masculine head which appealed for balance & shape, giving a clear impression of  this breed's trademark nobility, good reach & strength of neck, not quite the front of 1st & a little flat-footed at the moment, has good depth & length of body, strong well-muscled hindquarters, could easily have won this class on his looks, but could not match the straight driving movement of 1st today, again one with plenty of time to fulfil his potential

JUNIOR (1):

1st - F FIRST LADY

POST GRADUATE (5, 1 absent):

1st - Adams & Lewis' IRISBEL CHERISH YOU, 2 years Black B, full of fun & devilment giving her handler a hard time standing & moving, a real eye-catcher presented in beautiful coat & condition, well-balanced feminine head with delightful expression, good in front angulation, OK for length of neck, strong bone & tight round feet, very well built & deep in body with good ribbing & firm topline, very powerful hindquarters with moderate bend of stifle, a little erratic in movement, costing her in the challenge for BOB today, realised later that she is the once-raw puppy whom I admired two years ago, so good to see her all grown up

2nd - Moore's NADAVIN YALING FOR GEMELBET, 2 years Liver B, another in good coat & condition who presents a well-balanced outline, appealed for her pretty feminine head, good length of neck leading to correct front assembly, not quite the strength in overall build of 1st but still well proportioned in body being deep in brisket & well ribbed back to give correct length, strong wide thighs & moderate bend of stifle, firm level topline, found her slightly flat-footed today, however she moved soundly with drive, couldn't quite match the finish of 1st today, but  has a lot to admire & I liked her a great deal

3rd - Elliott's ELGERT BREAK EVERY RULE AT PORTSOY

Res - Trevor's GADHELIC JEMIMA JIGGLE FOR TREVORSILK

OPEN (5, 3 absent):

1st - Adams & Lewis' SH CH NADAVIN YADEN AT IRISBEL, 2 years Liver D, very impressive outline giving the appearance of balance, strength & endurance in equal measure, he totally filled my eye, the most handsome of masculine heads with the nobility & leanness typical of his breed, kind eye & gentle expression, long strong neck, well angulated front & rear, strong & deep in body which was of a good length, well ribbed back, firm strong topline, wide muscular thighs, moderate bend of stifle, moved on an unhurried stride with real power & drive, not surprised to learn that he has his title, BOB

2nd - Osborn's ELGERT LADY STARDUST JW, 5 years Black B, as feminine in outline as 1st is masculine, & just as impressive in overall balance & strength, liked her feminine balanced head complimented by her beautiful eye & expression, excelled in strength of neck & forechest, very well balanced front angulation, great depth & length of body, very well ribbed, firm level topline, strong muscular thigh, moderate bend of stifle, good bone throughout, standing on tight feet, her sound construction & body properties enabled her to move very soundly with plenty of drive, a delightful & worthy RBOB to the BOB
