CRYSTAL PALACE, Oct 16

Pleased to be part of this well run show - the generally good entry must be encouraging for the future of the open show scene. Thanks to the organising team and stewards.

SHETLAND SHEEPDOGS - J (2) 1 Roberts’ Stanydale Rewrite The Stars for Malaroc, very smart beautifully balanced 12 months attractively marked blue dog, quite the showman demonstrating his shapely lines, well moulded masculine yet quality head, well carried ears, correct eye shape, super neck flowing into an excellent topline, straight front, matching angulation front and rear resulting in a free long-striding side gait. One for the future. BOB, went on to G2; 2 Straw’s Dukeson Laced With Magic, delightful 13 months sable bitch, so pretty and feminine, charming one-piece head with a most appealing expression, enough bone for size, good topline and tail carriage, enough body, moved true and steadily, just preferred winner’s neck and shoulder but liked her a lot. RBOB. PGB (3) 1 S Rewrite The Stars for M; 2 Cheal’s Carolelen Composer, scopy sable dog, masculine head with sweet expression from correct shaped eyes, good bone and feet, clean neck into well angulated shoulders, well bodied, not quite the bend of stifle or rear drive as 1 but good reach in front; 3 Matthews’ Esterbon In The Shadows. O (3) 1 Fagg’s Dukeson Golden Fleece at Lynscot, handsome mature sable boy, quality head type with good skull to muzzle proportions, eventually showed me his correct ear carriage, good bone, well coated with distinct mane, good neck and shoulder, slightly wide in front standing but moved true, steady going round, not in a very enthusiastic mood today so had to give way to the youngsters; 2 Cheal’s Carolelen Call My Bluff, elegant sable bitch, not in full coat but has a very appealing outline, pretty feminine head, correct reach of neck, free mover in profile but could be a shade firmer in elbow and front; 3 Ferris’ Willowtarn Time To Party at Ferrimere. DEERHOUNDS - A good even entry I thought. J (4) 1 Shannon’s Packway Downlander at Erewhon, handsome masculine boy, well developed for 13 months, quality head, powerful jaws, super far-seeing expression, strong neck of sensible length, balanced angulation, good body and depth, moved true and won this good class on his steady profile movement. RBOB; 2 Heathcote’s Hyndsight Neaghley, lovely feminine 11-month-old with a touch of class, super outline with correct topline and croup, admired her head and neat ears, true front with typical bone, had moments of showing a steady side gait and had fully settled by the time she did her lap as BP, sorry she couldn’t stay for the puppy group; 3 Lucas & Dargonne’s Packway Ecotrailer. PG (2) 1 Lucas & Dargonne’s Packway Smackfarthing, most attractive feminine bitch with a lovely clean outline, strong muzzle, super neck into typical topline, well balanced. Shapely body, enough bend of stifle, well muscled, harsh coat, moved with drive and purpose. BOB and G4; 2 Everard’s Packway Heron’s Ghyll, litter brother, substantial masculine chap with plenty of strength and substance, strong head with typical expression, OK topline, powerful hindquarters, good coat texture. Slightly heavier in shoulder than his sister and not so free in front movement. O (2) 1 Lucas & Dargonne’s Packway Little Loxley, another quality feminine girl who I see has proved her worth as a brood as dam of BOB and RBOB by different sires, typical head and expression, super neck and shoulder, deep chest, shapely body, matching hind angles, not quite so true in front as her daughter but moved with a free easy stride; 2 Shannon’s Erewhon Firefly, a stronger type, perhaps not quite so feminine, plenty of bone, lots of power and substance, good upper arm but not quite the shoulder of 1 and didn’t quite present such a balanced picture on the move, picking up her front feet a little. SALUKIS (3) Definitely a case of quality if not quantity! 1 Aldous & Glaister’s Jay JP Sea Bird El Panjsher, gorgeous classy cream, so balanced and well put together without any hint of exaggeration, elegant and refined yet still masculine, quality head, loved his expression, clean shoulders with appropriate upper arm, excellent topline, croup and underline, typical feet, came into his own on the move, light, smooth and effortless, covering the ground with freedom and style. BOB and G1, delighted to see him win BIS; 2 Chippendale’s Imhotep Rears Natural Jasmine, most impressive cream of a slightly taller type, plenty of fringing, masculine head, balanced angulation, correct bone and feet, good body and tuck-up, another excellent mover. Loved them both, just felt 1 was marginally firmer at elbow. RBOB; 3 Williams’ Tigsisle Totally Unique. WHIPPETS - I appreciated the excellent entry. P (3) 1 Lipscombe’s Selinko Cherise, very shapely 7 months fawn built on super lines, quality head and expression, excellent neck, scored on her clean well laid back shoulders, matching rear angles, well bodied, excellent steady ground covering gait for such a baby. BP and PG2; 2 Griffiths’ Sochma A Stitch In Time for Pelyma, such a pretty 7 months fawn brindle, so feminine all through, loved her overall balance, good bone, just the right topline, preferred her feet but not quite the reach in front of 1, will watch their progress; 3 Wilson’s Sochma Its About Time. J (3) 1 Shepherd’s Kidaruka It’s Showtime at Oxana, handsome fawn boy of a lovely type, masculine without any heaviness, balanced unexaggerated angulation, true front, excellent feet, enough depth of chest, smooth topline, true steady mover holding his shape going round. Perhaps not the exceptional side gait of the BOB but put up a strong challenge. RBOB; 2 Lipscombe’s Selinko Honeysuckle, quality fawn bitch just out of puppy, built on long lines, attractive head, straight front, well bodied, correct length of loin, powerful hindquarters with good angles. A shade erratic on the move today, not quite shoulders or front action of 1; 3 Errington’s Littlebriton Fast Love. PG (5) 1 Meads’ Rockanor Silver Saphire at Jasbri, scopy f/w bitch, feminine head, cleanest shoulders in the class, matching upper arm, well boned, shapely body with strong loin and good underline, perhaps a shade too much hind angulation and could be tighter in feet. Preferred her type and balance in this class. Could have had a shade more reach in front; 2 Mackay’s Stillastar Magic Moments, stronger type br/w, lovely expression, liked her topline and hindquarters, good tuck-up, bone in proportion. A shade upright in front and moved rather wide; 3 Griffiths’ Pelyma For Your Eyes Only. L (4) 1 Woodcroft & Yacoby-Wright’s Cobyco City Limits, strongly made fawn male, solid and sound, very masculine head, unexaggerated angulation, well bodied, holds himself together nicely on the move with steady profile action, a shade heavy through the front, scored here on overall balance; 2 Mackay’s Stillastar Tiger Moth, black bitch with an appealing shape, good topline, strong loin, steady side gait, rather wide in front, could be a shade more feminine; 3 Byron’s Jasarat Gucci. O (7) Very nice class. 1 Smith & Coulter’s Stonefox Mean Mr Mustard, this handsome r/br won well here, loved his shape and outline, super hindquarters, solid and powerful yet still elegant, good male head, the right amount of bone, true mover but came into his own going round, his free ground-covering movement gave me great pleasure to watch. BOB and G3; 2 Woodcroft’s Cobyco Cover Queen, such a pretty br/w with a great deal of quality in a sensibly sized package, feminine head, well muscled and angulated hindquarters, flowing topline, correct underline, enough bone. Just preferred 1’s front angles and although she went well she was up against an exceptional mover; 3 Smith’s Welstar Airs And Graces at Cryhavoc. HOUND NSC - P (3) 1 BP, Parsons’ Ayoubkhan Honeysuckle to Shukriya; 2 Hirst’s Ayoubkhan Snow Cloud, two delightful 6 months cream Afghan sisters, real babies and very playful as you’d expect but both had their moments when they showed a very typical outline, feminine heads with correct eye shapes, good bone and angles and shapely bodies. Hard to choose between them at this stage, 2 has a shade more scope so will I suspect take longer to balance out whereas 1 is very neat and more together. Good luck with them; 3 Stratton’s Basenji Aheme Cinnamon Swirl. J (2) 1 Hills and Thornton’s Absolute Afghan’s Djibouti at Karnak, exciting 13 months gold Afghan at the in-between stage but already with plenty of attitude and an air of self-importance as he came into the ring. Masculine head with powerful jaws and correct eye shape, excellent topline, fallaway and tail carriage, super ring, ideal hind angles with great length from hip to hock, OK front construction if slightly forward placed, looked very stylish on the move, should have an interesting future; 2 Lewis’ Olphae Orlaith, quality Otterhound I judged recently, still like her head, neck, substance, bone and general balance, correct coat texture, more settled on the move today, would just like a shade more hand angulation. PG (1) 1 Moulding’s Nykarth Quite The Surprise, petite feminine PBGV, attractive head, eyes and ears, level topline retained on the move, well made hindquarters, moved OK but a shade more drive than reach. O (8) Enjoyable class. 1 Parsons’ Joneca Fire Cracker by Shukriya, very typical gold Afghan with great dignity while standing and super style and carriage while on the move, good eye and expression, reach arched neck, super topline, correct fallaway and tail carriage, the right amount of bone, deep chest, matching angles each end, beautifully presented. BNSC and close up to the Saluki in the group; 2 Langridge’s Tendrow Elberta, classy Wire Dachs, liked his head with with powerful jaws and dark eyes of the right shape, enough neck, super topline retained on the move, well boned, nicely padded feet, looked very well going round, perhaps a shade wide in front. Liked him a lot and was surprised when he turned up in the veteran class, in great form at 7 years. RBNSC; 3 Lewis’ Otterhound Elphae Charman. HOUND V (12) Another excellent class. 1 Williams’ Ch/Ber Ch Ulmarra Tropical Ice at Winton, these Salukis made my day! It’s a breed that should last and this one certainly has, looked very elegant at 11 years, her head, eyes, neck and topline all appealed, she’s still carrying just the right amount of weight and her balanced free-flowing movement was lovely to see; 2 T Elberta; 3 Cannon’s Afghan Multi Ch Calamus Mediator. HOUND GROUP - G1, BIS, Saluki; 2 Afghan; 3 Whippet; 4 Deerhound. PG1, BPIS Julemark Primrose at Maplelayne, eye-catching quality tan and white Beagle, feminine bitch with enough substance, reachy neck, south both ends with plenty of reach and drive; 2 Whippet; 3 Whiteorchard Atlas, well grown well reared Wolfhound with plenty of scope for the future, good neck, well knit body and powerful hindquarters; 4 Carlincox Habana Gold, handsome Ridgeback with excellent bone and substance and a clean pair of shoulders.
