West of England Chow Chow Club Open Show 2nd August 2021 – Judge Richard Morris (Lascoed)
My first breed show taught me so much and I am most grateful for the kind invitation and to all exhibitors for the entry after Bath. Each exhibit was much appreciated and gave me valuable experience of handling your fascinating breed on which I hope to build. Pigmentation was not an issue across the entry today and given the warm weather we have experienced coats were surprisingly good. Thank you to my steward for being so helpful on the day.

1. Webb – Xingbao Summer Inspiration At Chifido
Black two years old quality young dog, compact aloof dignified appearance carrying his well furnished dense well textured coat close to his body shape beautifully presented with slight silver shadings. Good to find such woolly undercoat standing on the best of bone though feet could be a little tighter for me. Good depth of body to length of leg short coupled with thick tail set high and carried well over nestling close. Head free of wrinkle with clean medium sized eyes dark colour and set correctly apart thick ears slanting forward slightly and well placed. A very smart free mover with elastic pendulum action very well muscled hindquarters. The type I was looking for on the day delighted to award him BD, BAOC & BIS, congratulations.

1. Butler – Rendel Rice Krispy
Shaded red seven months held more breed points than the second placed bitch for me notably in head character with developing head and muzzle finish, broad skull and clean eyes well set and coloured, developing ruff. Dense puppy coat sprung ribcage short coupled at the loins hindquarters strongly muscled for her age. Tail high set and carried well over nestling close movement was a bit of an effort in the warm weather but essentially sound, BPB.
2. Absalom – Bon Triumph Dinasty At Wengeordy (Imp Rus)
Shaded red seven months a finer bitch than the winner overall less exaggerated pleasing expression strong bone but appearing to lack spring of ribcage a sounder more determined mover than the winner tail set correct promising just needs time to come on.

Black four year old sister to the best dog excellent breed type full of substance and condition active and well balanced standing and on the move. Leonine appearance with swinging profile action coat well textured with dense undercoat almost too profuse for me. Shaded red with more finish to her head than the second placed but also not so short in the couplings and appeared wider in front on the move on the day. Well textured coarse topcoat which was starting to blow but showed a lovely neck ruff tail set high and nestling carried well over back. A solid sound steady mover.

Pleasing dark eye colour oval shape rims set well apart ears thick small well rounded and placed giving typical scowling expression ribcage well sprung though a bit lean in body and topcoat slight soft on the day. High set tail carried well over back moved with dignified bearing.

Shaded red three years smaller and more compact than the winner very square in appearance and another starting to moult in coat but carried a coarse texture topcoat I preferred to that of the winner.
