Special Yearling (17, 4abs)

1ST Phillips, Watkins & Sykes, Mrs A & Ms T & Mr N, Glenmaurangi Storm Trooper (Gordon Setter): I realise that one must never fall into the trap of ‘humanising’ our dogs but in this case I will make an exception – what a ‘Lad’! A male of 17 months of age with quality in every department - presented a super outline and the breed type I’m looking for. Typical head and expression, muzzle of good width and depth, correct, clean and complete dentition, eyes dark, strong, clean neck into well placed shoulders and corresponding return of upper arm – he really does have the best of forehand assemblies, elbows close to body, ribs well sprung, stifles well bent, good feet and short nails. His movement is without doubt exceptional, accurate in all planes with the best of open side gaits whilst maintaining the firmest of toplines. Extremely well handled. Best AVNSC and my absolute pleasure to award him the Gundog Group.

Very good shoulder placement and return of upper arm. Good width and depth of brisket. Well ribbed back into strong loin and muscular hindquarters with moderate turn of stifle. Feet round with nails that should be shorter – the nails are ruining the correct shape and structure of the feet. Tailset correct straight on a level with topline. 1ST Busby, Mrs R H & Miss O F M, Stanegate Leading Role At Zakby JW (Irish Water Spaniel): I have always been extremely impressed with this male of nearly 3 years of age. The epitome of breed type. He is beautifully balanced with typical head and slightly aloof expression. Strong neck to well laid shoulder with corresponding return of upper arm. Brisket of super depth and width with barrel ribcage right on the elbow. Short back with strong hindquarters and well let down hocks. In excellent coat and condition. On the move he demonstrated the correct roll from the ribcage – today he could not be denied winning this strong class – in the challenge the more I moved him against the Gordon Setter, the more he acted up against his handler. Without doubt, a quality dog of this breed.
