Scunthorpe Canine Association

Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge at this show and to the exhibitors for their entry. It was very nice to be back judging again. I was conscious that for many of these dogs it was to be the beginning of their show careers so I tried to be as kind but confident as possible for them. Overall I think they coped very well with only 2 who seemed unsure of what was happening.
I just have one little gripe. Please, regardless of your breed, refrain from lifting your dog by the head to position the feet. I believe this to be unnecessary as it is very easy to lift a leg to get the feet in the right place.

English Setter
Puppy (2)
1st Hutchinson's Moneysbridge Iris
Blue bitch of 11mths who is at just the right stage of development for her age. She is very feminine and her head is very elegant with good eye colour and correct scissor bite. She is deep enough in rib and has good length. Her rear is well turned with short hocks. Once she settled her movement in profile showed a good stride with a slashing tail action. BP and I was pleased to give her Puppy Group 1. I will watch her with interest.
2nd McDowell's Ravensett Italian Job For Bydales
7mth orange dog. Masculine head with deep muzzle. He has well placed shoulders with good length of upper arm and deep rib. He has good length to his loin and is moderately angulated at the rear. Moved steadily, he just needs to come together.

Post Graduate (2)
1st Hutchinson's Mariglen Xara at Monaysbridge
Orange bitch who has a nicely proportioned head with good ear set, although I would prefer a tighter eye. She has balanced angulation front and rear, showing maturity through the body with deep rib and correct loin. She was accurate on the move but I would like to see her with a little more animation.
2nd White & Dunwell's Paduan Remembrance
This boy has a stronger head but it is not coarse. He has a reasonable length of neck leading to a good topline. He has a straight front and I would prefer more angulation all round. Moved ok.

Open (2)
1st Jarvis' IrShCh Hawklawn Summer Breeze
Dark tri bitch who's colour can make her look more substantial than she is, hands on assessment confirms that she is elegant and feminine. Her head is typical with wide nostrils and dark eye. She has lovely length of neck and well laid shoulders with good length and return of upper arm. She is balanced & mature in body and has a nicely turned rear which enables her to move freely with a happy tail action. Pleased to award her BOB. After checking my records I see I gave her BP previously.
2nd Lawson’s Wansleydale Dorian Gray JW
Another Tri who is a different type to 1 but has lots to like. His head is beautiful and all male. He has a good lay of shoulder and level topline. His tail is well carried. He has quality bone and tight well arched feet. Being a bigger dog he would have benefited from a bigger ring. RBOB

Irish Setter
Puppy (2)
1st Corless’ Swiftlark Illustrious BP
Litter brother and sister and similar remarks apply. The winner has a very pretty head with well defined stop and good eye shape. She has a lovely neck to well placed shoulders and good spring of rib. She scored over her brother on movement which is more together at the moment but this was all that separated them. BP& PG3
2nd Cordless' Swiftlark Invincible
This boy will swap places with his sister on many occasions. There’s no mistaking he’s a boy but he is not coarse. Balanced through the body and just needs time to settle on the move.

Junior (5,2abs)
1st Longbottom & Stewart-Ritchie’s Gwendariff We’ll Be Phame Us
Won this class on her overall balance showing a lovely outline. She has a lovely expression and good eye colour. She has good front assembly with deep rib and slightly sloping topline. Her rear is strong with good tailset. Moved steadily.
2nd Lorrimer’s Kerrimere Classic Touch
This boy was not as forward as one and will take a little more time to come together. He was masculine in outlook with lovely lay of shoulder & length of upper arm. He was a little distracted which caused him to be a little erratic on the move.
3rd Richardson’s Gwendarrif Tullys Red Arrows

Post Graduate (6,3abs)
1st Bougen’s Gwendariff Hot Ticket JW
I found this girl to be very elegant. She has a well made front with straight forelegs and firm feet. She is mature through the body to her strong rear and short hocks. On the move she was accurate and free flowing.
2nd Richardson’s Gwedariff I’m Fool Proof
Rangier than the first, with lots of definition to his head. He has good length and return of upper arm and deep rib, although I would like a little more length in body. His rear balanced with his front and he moved well on short hocks.
3rd Jarvis’ Lowdon To Darn Hot

Open (4, 1abs)
1st Crocker & Lewis’ Riverbrue Wonderwall at Hernwood
What a super young boy this is. He is all male with well laid back shoulders and super upper arm. He has a deep, well sprung rib and has a strong loin with correct topline. His is strong in thigh with short hocks. He has quality bone and super tight feet. True and free flowing on the move. BOB. He was unlucky to come up against the super GWP in the group but it was a pleasure to award him G2
2nd Bougen’s Gwendariff Lily The Pink RBOB
Another quality bitch from this breeder. I really liked her overall outline and presentation. She has lovely length of neck to well positioned shoulders and good topline. Another who is mature in body and has a strong rear to allow her to move accurately. RBOB
3rd Corless’ Swiftlark First Knight

Pointer
Puppy (1)
1st Ram’s Jilony Brown Velvet
10mth old male who is just the right stage for his age. He has a lovely head and balanced head, although I would like a darker eye. He has good sloping shoulders and slight arch to his loin. He has a well turned rear and correct tail set. He was very collected on the move for such a young dog. BP
Post Graduate (3,1abs)
1st Dunn’s Caithpoint Kora at Meadowpoint
Bitch who presented a nice outline standing. She has good front assembly with straight forelegs with good bone and feet. Her rear matches her front which enables her to move smoothly in profile. Going away she was a little wide behind. RBOB
2nd Ram’s Dancan Sharp Spear
Another B&W. I found is head not as balanced at the winner, being slightly shorter in skull. He has a correct topline and tailset, his chest is deep and he is short in loin. Moved ok.
Open (2,1bas)
1st Lake’s Wild Thyme
Bitch of lovely type. She has a good head, but I would prefer slightly more depth of muzzle. She has good length and angulation to her upper arm with clean elbows. She is well ribbed back and has a strong loin. Her stifles are well turned with short hocks. She was the most accurate on the move today, covering plenty of ground. BOB & G4

Labrador Retriever
Puppy (3)
1st Smith’s Bruadarach Braenuth
This 6mth chocolate bitch was just so happy to be at the show. She has a broad skull with good eye shape though I would prefer it a little darker. She is very balanced if a little bum high at the moment but she is only a baby. Her otter tail was very well set and she moved true coming and going.
2nd Smith’s Balladoodle Sunny Sky
6.5mth bitch who was also enjoying herself. She has a lovely head defined stop and good eye. She is not dissimilar to her kennel mate and similar remarks apply. She is very much a baby, as she should be. I found her a little longer in the body than the winner. Again, she moved true.
3rd Atkinson’s Foxrush Too Truthful at Rodarbal

Junior (2,1abs)
1st Smith’s Flyenpig Pie Eyed
Dog of 6mth who I found delightful. I loved his head, it is broad and clean with a naughty expression. His neck is well placed in to his correctly laid shoulders which leads to a level topline and tailset. He already has good width to his rib and he is short in loin. He has a well developed rear with good width of second thigh. On the move he was steady and true, covering the ground. BP, PG2 & RBOB
Post Graduate (4,1abs)
1st Smith’s Flyenpig Pie Eyed
2nd Smith’s Exelby Helleborne In Flyenpig
I liked this bitch, but I just preferred the front of the puppy. She is well made both front and rear with good shoulders and upper arm. Her rear is well angulated with short hocks. She moved well in profile.
3rd Capps’ Jimjoy Coco Chanel

Open (2) Two very different types here
1st Smith’s Flyenpig Porky Pig JW
Mature yellow dog who is very fit. His head is of a type to the other class winners but still pleasing with good width and correct eye. He has well placed shoulders with lovely length and angulation to his upper arm. He is balanced through the body and his rear is well angulated. On the move he shows accuracy and covers the ground well. BOB
2nd Ayres & Jackson’s Hannabee To Hull N Back With Musubi
Very mature dog of substance. I would prefer a little more refinement in head. He is strong in body with good bone and tight feet. He has short hocks shows power on the move. His coat was is great condition although a little wavy on the day.

Mature blue roan dog with good furnishings. He is stronger in head than 2 but scored on front angulation. His body is compact with good depth of rib and a strong loin. Moved straight and true.
2nd Sewll’s Kerriglow Dream Again For Quattrozampe
This black dog was a little throatier than I would prefer. He has a level topline and a correctly set tail. He is deep enough in rib, has good length of loin and is short in hock. Moved ok
Open (2)
1st West’s Sheigra Stars In Her Eyes JW
This black bitch has a very sweet head and expression and typical Cocker outlook. She has well placed shoulders into level topline and correct tailset. She’s fully mature which shows in her balanced body and rib. She moves on such a good stride demonstrating her merry attitude, BOB
2nd Sewell’s Wintonia Hidden Gem at Quattrozampe
This blue roan is of a different type to my winner and still has some maturing to do. I liked her head with a dark eye and good ear set although I found her a little throaty. She is correct ribbed with good front angulation. She was dropping her topline today and this showed on the move.

AVNSC Gundog

GSP. This young bitch really appealed for her balanced, typey outline. She has a clean head with a kind expression. She shows maturing through the body and her sound construction enabled her to move with ease covering plenty of ground. RBOB
2nd Gogarty’s Padend Just The Way You Are
FC bitch with a lovely moulded head and correct eye shape. She has a deep enough rib of good length and a moderately angulated rear. Her tail is correctly set and carried well on the move. I would just like a little more animation.
3rd Jenks’ Peasblossom Into The Mystic Springer
Post Graduate (9, 3abs)
1st Malin’s Keigame Quintessence at Benrae
GSP of a different type to the junior winner but still with many virtues. Another with a lovely head and expression, with good front assembly. She is well bodied with moderate turn of stifle. She moved on an accurate stride.
2nd Buckley’s Steelriver Hit The Beach With Buckleyhill
FC male. Upstanding masculine dog with good reach of neck and good length of upper arm. He has a balanced body and quality oval bone with tight feet. He is moderately angulated in the rear with short hocks. Another who just lacked animation and moved steadily.
3rd Nicholson’s Trepur Luthien Tinuviel Spin
Open (8, 3abs)
1st Johnston’s Glenquinn Athena
This GWP took my eye as soon as she entered the ring. She has a beautifully balanced head and super furnishings of good texture. She is so well proportioned through the body with well sprung rib to a correct loin. She has quality bone and compact feet. On the move she really showed that great confirmation which enabled her to cover the ground with minimal effort. BOB. Later in the group I had no hesitation in awarding her G1 and I was delighted to see her finish BIS. Congratulations.
2nd Vickers’ Bryburn Atticus
