Hyde & District Canine Society – 13th November 2021 - Dalmatian

Thank you to the hard-working committee for putting on a successful show and to the exhibitors for entering. I was delighted to be invited to judge Dalmatians and had a wonderful day. There was a great atmosphere around the ring with a lovely applause for class winners, thank you for accepting my decisions.

Puppy (5,1)

1st Mrs C Wallington – Ailsadot Astral Lyra – Super confident black 6-month-old bitch with a very pretty spotted face and dark brown eyes, lively expression and well carried broken ears. Strength to her muzzle but retains her femininity easily. Round bone, slightly sloping pasterns lead down to tight feet with well-maintained nails. Scored well in front assembly with elbows carried close to body, clean neck and shoulders well laid back. Good length to her ribcage, strong loin and tail set straight off her back and carried well when moving. She has good turn of stifle and already showing good definition of second thigh, strong straight hocks with excellent bone. Coat in fabulous condition being glossy and tight, with evenly distributed spotting. On the move showing fantastic reach and drive, and once she grows up she will be able to showcase how well she can move with ease. An exciting future for this puppy surely. Reserve Best of Breed and Best Puppy.

2nd Mrs E J & Mr C N Emmett & Simons – Frankish It’s A Sin At Ellemstra – 7 month old bitch with deep liver spotting, although would prefer a little darker eye. Clean mouth with tight lips but plainer in the face than 1 however, she also has a lovely balance to her head which gives her a very sweet expression, her ears are beautifully spotted too and they are carried well so frame her face nicely. Clean neck down to straight front legs, round tight feet. Presented in fantastic condition, very well marked over her body. Nicely balanced overall for length and height, ribs well sprung and level back. Tail set and carried well, great width to her rear and well let down hocks. Happy puppy taking in her surroundings and moved straight on the up and down.

Junior (1,1)

Post Graduate (7,6)

1st Mrs C Wallington – Kaytoni Isn’t She Lovely At Ailsadot – 3 year old well-schooled black spotted bitch, coped with the slippery floor well! Flat skull, nice width between her ears, ghost face with lovely dark eyes and again well broken spotty ears which were used well. Good length to her neck but not as clean over the withers, ribs well sprung and carried well back. Enough bone and she stands on round feet. Well set tail that did not stop wagging, her hind quarters are well muscled but rear angulation not balanced with her front. Strong hocks, driving off nicely when moving and she has a beautiful clean evenly decorated coat, in great overall condition.

Open (3,1)

1st Dr E & Mr W Sampson – Dalstorm Golden Guinea JW – Rising 3-year-old black spotted male, judged this smart young male as a puppy and pleased to see him again approaching full maturity. The constant showman, who makes assessing him very easy. Clean head with great pigment, pronounced stop, dark brown oval eyes and ears used well. Shoulders well laid back, moderate width and good fill to his fore chest, best feet of the day so cat like. Nicely arched neck fitting well into shoulders, no wrinkling over the wither. Elbows held close to body as his shoulder and upper arm are equal in angulation, and his ribcage well sprung to give him good heart and lung room. Powerful level back maintained on the move also and nice slight rise over the loin which leads to a tail set right off the back, when moving tail also carried well and never stops wagging. Fantastic muscle on his hindquarters and good width to his thighs giving strong driving action from his well let down hocks and strong rear pasterns. His movement is well balanced and tracks up well. Pleasing moderate size and well-balanced outline. Great pigment and spotting is well distributed. Best of Breed and delighted to see him be awarded Utility Group 1.

2nd Mrs L Tyson – Perdita’s Albus – 2-year-old strong male, easily recognisable as a liver as he has such rich pigment, he is a different style to the winner with a larger frame overall but has some of the same qualities. Correct sparkling amber eyes with fully pigmented rims, broad flat skull and he uses his ears well. Would prefer a cleaner head as lips not as tight as desired. Strong neck leading to well defined withers, slightly shorter coupled than 1st. Deep capacious chest, with good width to his front, stands on strong bone and excellent feet with well-manicured nails. Well-schooled to go over but would benefit from a larger ring to showcase his powerful movement, he drives so well from his strong hocks. Coat is well kept and spotting evenly distributed with no frosting around his rich liver decoration, happy temperament just wants to please.
