A huge thank you to the committee of SDCA for their invitation to judge at this lovely show, what a way to welcome us all back after the awful time we’ve had over the past 15 months. Thank you to my fantastic stewards who kept me on track and helped the exhibitors with the new protocols.

I was thrilled with my entry across the breeds and I would like to give full credit to the exhibitors for keeping up your training under the most difficult of circumstances. Out of the 50 dogs I went over today, only two youngsters showed any signs of nervousness which would be expected due to the lack of opportunities to socialise them fully. So congratulations to everyone who got their dogs here today and hopefully this is the start of returning to our wonderful hobby.

As a note, all exhibits presented with the correct bite for their breed standard.

Dalmatian

Class 209 Puppy (2/2)

Two lovely babies with stacks of potential for the future.

1st 645 Edens’ Dalens Queen of the Seas at Silverspot. 11 month old, black spotted Bitch. Feminine head with the darkest of eyes and a wonderful, outgoing disposition. Excellent length of neck into correct shoulders. She has a lovely forechest, good bone and substance and tight feet. Strong topline into correct tailset. Well muscled hinds with good second thigh, still carrying a touch of puppy fat however this should firm up as she matures. Won this class on her free flowing movement with a strong drive from the hock. BPIB and delighted to see her take Puppy Group 3.

2nd 656 Richards’ Hafwenna We Will Rock You. 8 month old, black Dog. Striking, masculine boy with a strong head and dark eyes. Good reach of neck and well placed shoulders. Well off for bone with tight cat feet. Good ribbing and topline. Well angulated rear with musculature developing as it should and sturdy hocks. He moved well with good reach and drive. A lovely boy who has it all there, just a bit loose at the moment as is to be expected for his age.

Class 210 Special Yearling (7/8)

What a cracking class of youngsters who must really have felt the loss of the shows as they have missed out on their entire puppy careers.

1st 646 Finch & Bonner’s Sophtspot Kalamity Jane with Dalticino. 16 month old black spotted bitch who I have had the pleasure of judging before and she is developing just as I would hope. Such an elegant bitch, nothing is overdone. Feminine head with dark eyes, she uses her ears to advantage. Excellent front construction, good bone and tight feet. Ribs carried well back, strong topline and shapely underline. Good bend of stifle and well developed first and second thighs. Really excellent movement, tracking up correctly from all angles.

2nd 660 Scott’s Sophtspot La De Da at Belsmard. 16 month old black spotted bitch from the same kennel as the first but totally different in type. Stunning bitch who looks like her spots have been painted on by hand. Elegant head with a beautiful expression. Lovely length of neck into good lay of shoulder. Excellent bone and feet. Well ribbed with a level topline and correct tailset. Fantastic body condition all through. Moved well around the ring but I preferred the tidier movement of the first when coming towards me. I expect these two will swap places many times.

3rd 653 Moate’s Sundownal Trijonbelle.

Class 211 Postgraduate (4/6)

1st 659 Salkeld’s Tippledal Tarw Du at Opalsnow. 3 year old black spotted male. Handsome boy with a masculine head and dark eyes. Nicely constructed front with strong bone and tight feet. Good depth of chest, well sprung ribs and strong loin. Excellent rear angulation with superb muscling. Being picky, I would prefer denser spotting however this does not detract from his lovely construction. Moved with excellent reach and drive, covered the ground with ease and really pushed the Open class winner. RBOB.

2nd 643 Edens’ Dalens A Spot of Trouble JW ShCM ShCEx. 5 year old black spotted bitch. Feminine head and excellent length of neck. Strong in her front construction with a nice forechest. Held her topline well both when standing and moving. Excellent rear angulation and strong hocks, moved well but carrying a bit too much weight today.

3rd 654 O’Connor’s Dalamanti Diamond Raider.

Class 212 Open (6/9)

1st 642 Edens’ Dalens Hot Gossip JW ShCM VW. Almost 10 year old black Dog who has taken Best of Breed under me before. I can’t add much to my previous critique from two years ago except to say that he seems to have gotten even better. He is so well balanced, nothing overdone. He is masculine yet retains the elegance that is often lacking in the breed. Moderate all the way through, strong topline, good bone and feet. He really excels on the move with his forward reach and rear driving action. He is the ultimate showman, so well-schooled and handled. Pleased to award him BOB and I thought he looked stunning in the Group.

2nd 657 Richards’ Divazzi’s Desire for Romance at Hafwenna. Beautiful 3 year old black Bitch. Loved her overall make and shape. She has such a pretty head and expression, well off for bone with tight feet. Excellent front construction, correct topline and tailset. Good spring of rib and strong in loin. Finished with beautiful, dense spotting. She moved fluidly around the ring however she is another that is, unfortunately, just carrying a bit too much weight today.

3rd 651 Moate’s Sundownal Trijonkuro.

German Spitz (Klein)

Class 217 Puppy (No entries)

Class 218 Special Yearling (1/1)

1st 1060 Gardner’s Galvizach Mandala at Daradale. Brown/white Parti Dog. Cheeky, outgoing showman who, even though he stood alone, really commands attention. Masculine, wedge-shaped head with good pigmentation around eyerims and nose. Good ear set and carriage. Nice neck into correct shoulder placement with well boned legs and round feet. Good ribbing and well muscled loin, he is a touch longer than I would like. Well angled hinds with strong muscling. Tail set and carried well. Excellent, straight, dense coat. He moved well fore and aft, clearly enjoying his moment in the spotlight. RBOB.

Class 219 Postgraduate (1/1)

1st 685 Trendle’s Lusam Cheeky Boy. 7 year old cream male. Excellent head shape with striking, dark eyes. Ears correctly placed and he used them well. Well constructed all through with moderate angulation. Strong topline which he held on the move. Nicely muscled hinds. Nice coat condition and he moved well, another lovely outgoing temperament.

Class 220 Open (2/2)

1st 684 Chambers’ Musique Born Legacy. What a cracking boy! So square in outline, he really draws the eye with his profuse white coat. Broad, wedge shaped head, good eye and small, high set ears. Excellent pigmentation all through. Well off for bone with great feet. Nicely constructed front with good forechest. Short coupled with a strong topline and excellent tailset and carriage. In lovely body condition. Best mover of the entry today and was pleased to award him Best of Breed.

2nd 686 Trendle’s Lusam Toodle Pip. Feminine sable bitch, who belies her 9 years. Compact in outline with good head and correct eye shape. Ears well set and carried. Good neck and front construction. Well ribbed, short coupled and correct topline. Good rear angulation and carrying a good amount of muscle. Moved well.

German Spitz (Mittel)

Class 221 Puppy (3/3)

1st 689 Barnes & Andrew’s Claran Copper Nebula at Izlou. Just six months this sable male has so much presence in the ring. Square outline, excellent masculine head with correct eye shape and good amount of stop. Ears set and used well. Clean neck into good slope of shoulder, well boned fores and excellent feet. Good ribbing and loin, level topline into correct tailset. Good rear angulation and already well muscled. Finished with a fabulous coat. He excels on the move with an effortless gait. BPIB and pleased to see him win the Utility Puppy Group.

2nd 693 Barnes & King’s Izlou All You Knead is Love. 9 month old black Dog. Not quite the outline of first and lighter in build all over. More of an elegant head with a slightly longer muzzle than I prefer. Good neck and front construction with tight feet. Level topline, moderate angulation with good muscling. Moved well with good reach and drive.

3rd 695 Hare’s Tispitza Locked and Loaded.

Class 222 Special Yearling (2/3)

1st 694 Barnes & King’s Izlou Mustard Been Love. Striking black bitch. Excellent bone and substance yet still clearly female. Made an impressive, square outline on the stand. Blunt, wedge shaped head with good muzzle. Nice length of neck into correct front construction. Nice tight feet. Excellent topline, compact through the coupling. Good bend of stifle with well muscled thighs and strong hocks. Excelled on the move with fantastic forward reach. Lost out in the challenge as she is out of coat at the moment, however it won’t be long before she is troubling the older dogs.

2nd 696 Monks’ Cwrtafon Ioan. White male with a strong, masculine head and excellent pigmentation all through. Good neck into well placed shoulders. Decent amount of bone and good feet. Correct topline and tailset, he has excellent rear angulation. In good coat condition. Unfortunately he had a tendency to pace when moving.

Class 223 Postgraduate (2/2)

1st 691 Barnes & King’s Izlou Shiver Me Timbers. Black male who has such an impressive outline and is full of confidence. Beautiful expression with the darkest of eyes and pigmentation. Correct skull shape with well set ears. Good length of neck into correct shoulder placement. Excellent bone with lovely rounded feet. Balanced all through with rear angulation matching the front. Really well muscled with strong hocks. Fantastic straight, dense coat. His movement was the best of the entry with excellent driving action from the back. Pleased to award him Best of Breed.

2nd 692 Barnes & King’s Izlou Let Me Be Your Fantasy. Black bitch who is the litter sibling to the class winner and shares many of his attributes. Well balanced with a pretty head and expression. Good for bone and substance, nice angles front and rear. Held her topline well and is well muscled all through. She moved steadily with excellent ground coverage but just couldn’t quite match the quality of her brother.

Class 224 Open (2/2)

1st 690 Barnes & King’s Spellcast Talk With Me by Izlou. Another striking male with a strong head and good pigmentation to complement his excellent Cream coat. Correct front construction with good bone and feet. Well ribbed, with a strong topline and correct tailset. Excellent musculature with good turn of stifle. Moved out well with an active gait but lost out in the challenge as I preferred the rear action of the PG dog. RBOB.

2nd 697 Thomas’ Int/NL/Lux/Cr Ch Daraydala Lorenzo of Kelmorespitz ShCM Wa 15 Bwnl 16 Bwlu 17. Black male who has a good, square outline. Lighter in build than the first placed dog. Good eye shape and pigmentation. Level topline, correct tailset with moderate rear angulation. Moved out well from all angles but preferred the overall construction of the first dog.

Good length of neck into correct front construction. Good bone and feet. Excellent topline and rear angulation with muscling coming along nicely. Just erratic on the move which made it difficult to assess her.

2nd 860 Henderson’s Falkor’s Artax. Really loved this young male, unfortunately he was rather unsettled in his first class at his first ever show which was a shame. Excellent, typy head with dark eyes and a strong jaw. Elegant neck into well laid shoulders, good bone and tight feet. Correct topline, good rear angulation with strong hocks. As I said, he was unsettled in this class but by the time it came to the puppy challenge he was moving much more fluidly and I was pleased to award him Best Puppy in Breed and see him placed in the Puppy Group.

Good neck and shoulders, well boned with good feet. Nicely ribbed with good depth of chest and level topline. Good rear angulation and muscling up nicely for her age. Movement is loose at the moment, as would be expected at this stage of her development. The most striking thing about her is her wonderful nature, so outgoing and confident at her very first show.
