Eston & Barnaby Canine Society

Eston & Barnaby CS (05/12/21)

My sincerest thanks to the committee for their kind invitation and hospitality. As well as judging my original breeds (Labrador & Golden Retriever), I was also asked to stand in for Pam Tait due to ill health. She had pulled such a lovely entry of Pointer, Weimaraner, GSP, GWP and Welsh Springer Spaniels. I’m sure you will all join me in wishing Pam a speedy recovery!

Pointer Special Yearling (1,0)

1) Anderson-Rowell, Raigmore Limelight. A compact orange/white bitch who appealed for her obvious femininity and curvaceous shape. Liked her well proportioned head with dark eye, showing lots of work already with the potential for more. Balanced angulation both fore and aft. Plenty of depth through her ribs, strong bone for size and a firm topline. Firm on her hocks with a correct beesting tail which she used so well on the move. Hind action was good going away but needs to tighten on her elbows coming towards which I am sure will come with age. Great profile showing lovely deportment and carriage on the go-round.

Pointer Post Graduate (2,1)

1) Blowers, Fowington Lar Ti Dar at Deadaway. I was rather taken with this typy 2 year old orange/white bitch. Loved her typical feminine head, plenty of work with a dark eye. Reachy neck into decent front assembly. Good depth of brisket and spring of rib. Strong topline and loin. Best of rears with plenty of width over her quarters, well bent stifles and firm hocks. Shortest of tails which she used so well on the move. Tidy both going away & coming towards with a really stylish profile action. Delighted to award her BOB & see her take G4 in a strong group!

Pointer Open (1,0)

1) Anderson-Rowell, Daledancer Rita Owla. Another smart orange/white bitch who is so honest to go over. Classic head with dark eyes, good chiselling and muzzle shape. I would prefer more angulation at both ends but is so mature through her body with a strong topline and plenty of width through her quarters. Excellent beesting tail which was used so well on the move. Sound & steady mover from all directions.

Weimaraner Open (6,0) - This was a really interesting entry having dogs at varying ages to assess, thank you all for bringing them!

1) Robson, Robricci Aramis. 11 month old dog possesses really good proportions, he still has some maturing to do but I loved his overall type and athleticism. Masculine head with a typical aristocratic expression and good sized ears. He possesses the correct moderate angulation both fore & aft with plenty of depth through his brisket for one so young. Needs to strengthen in topline on the stack but he has time on his side. Strong bone and the best of feet. On the move I was impressed with his accuracy and balance from all directions for one so young. Very happy to award him BOB & BPIB and then watch him take PG2!

2) Hostler, Kalimor Daisy. A 4 year old bitch who impressed me for overall condition and maturity. From a longer and more angulated mould than 1. Loved her feminine head and well sized ears. Plenty of neck into a good forehand assembly with a deep brisket and good length of foreleg. Prefer her to be a shade shorter in loin. Well off for hind angulation with plenty of width over her front and rear quarters. Sound both going/coming with an easy side gait.

3) Thorne, Mabanika Cheers.

GSP Junior (5,1)

1) Cox, Cushatlaw Athena. This 7 month old bitch really appealed for type and overall balance at this stage. Really pretty, clean cut head with dark, soft eyes. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders and good upper arm. Plenty of body for her age, short back with a wide croup. Strong bone and compact feet. Symmetrical angulation in the rear. On the move she was most impressive, firm on her elbows and hocks with good reach and drive from the side. Wrapped in a coarse textured coat. It was a close run thing between her and 2nd but her steadier movement secured her win on the day. Delighted to award her BPIB and see her take PG3!

2) Mann, Valger Symphony. While this bitch is slightly older, I felt she was at a different stage in her development to 1st on the day. Slightly longer cast, I loved her for overall breed type and balance of angulation. Her head is so typical and delightfully feminine with the softest of expressions. Well angulated in both her front and rear quarters. Needs to body up but this will come with age. Full of panache and style on the move, will watch her development with interest.

3) Scott, Cushatlaw Amadeus at Essenpoint.

GSP Post Graduate (2,0)

1) Mann, Valger Symphony. See 2nd Junior.

2) Sellars, Missdiss Warm As Chocolate. Different type to 1. A mature bitch with plenty of body. Classic head with typical rise over the muzzle. Moderate but balanced angulation. Steady mover from all angles.

GSP Open (3,1)

1) Thurms, Dappledele First Date at Bryburn. She may be only 20 months old but what an excellent bitch this is! Easy on the eye from nose to tail, full of breed type and gives the immediate impression of a dog built for endurance and speed that stands over plenty of ground. Her head is feminine, clean cut with a round skull and the softest expression, complemented by correctly coloured eyes. Slightly arched neck that flows into the best front of the breed entry today with long, well laid shoulders and corresponding upper arm. Straight forelegs with strong bone and compact feet. Deeper through her body than wide with sufficient room behind her tight fitting elbows. Correct angle of croup which is long and wide, coupled with symmetrical rear angulation and strong hocks. Clean both going/coming with that typical lithe, ground-covering action when viewed from the side. Presented in tip top condition. One of my ‘finds of the day’, I was delighted to award her BOB and see her take G2! I will watch her career with great interest.

2) Scott, Solwaypoint Indiana at Essenpoint. This male comes from a more compact mould than 1 with many appealing attributes. I liked his obvious strength and athleticism. Masculine head but would prefer a little less width over his skull. Good forehand angulation with plenty of depth to brisket. Short-backed with slightly more moderate rear angulation. Sound and steady on the move from all directions. Excellent muscle and condition.

German Wirehaired Pointer Special Yearling (1,0)

1) Simpson, Greendale Ash. This 13 month old dog is still learning his craft, possessing charisma and enthusiasm by the bucketload! Strong, well proportioned head with correct eye shape and colour, plenty of furnishings for age. His angulation was balanced fore/aft with a strong, compact body and ample width through his quarters. Coat texture is changing. Needs to settle on the move to show his full potential.

German Wirehaired Pointer Post Graduate (2,2)

German Wirehaired Pointer Open (1,0)

1) Ellis, Normbar Time Honoured (AI). This 4 year old bitch was of a slightly longer cast than my previous class winner. Liked her obvious strength of bone without coarseness and maturity through her body. Pretty head and expression with correct set ears. Well angled both fore/aft with a strong topline and correctly set tail. Sound and true both ways while covering plenty of ground with ease from the side, retaining her very pleasing outline. Plenty of coat of good texture. Very pleased to award her BOB!

Welsh Springer Spaniel Special Yearling (1,0)

1) Chandler, Chanagel Jo Sugden. This 8 month old dog is so raw but with so much promise. Well sized with proportionate bone. Liked his strong head with a kind expression. Ample depth of body for his age. Balanced angulation fore/aft with a strong topline. So true going/coming for one so young with an easy side gait, using his tail to advantage. Excellent presentation and handling. Delighted to award him BPIB and see him take PG1!

Welsh Springer Spaniel Post Graduate (1,1)

Welsh Springer Spaniel Open (1,0)

1) Chandler, Chanagel Yorkshire Rose. Mother of my BPIB winner, also so well groomed and handled. Made from a smaller mould but possesses such obvious balance of angulation. Strong bone for her size, pretty head and expression with a dark, kind eye. Strong topline with well sprung ribs. Sound both going/coming. A real show girl on the go round, exhibiting such great reach and drive with lovely carriage and deportment which took her to BOB.

Labrador Retriever Puppy (1,0)

1) Lintern, Northernjoy Country Girl. 6 month old yellow bitch at her first show giving a lot away. Pretty head with dark eyes and well set ears. Good reach of neck. Decent body for her age. Needs time and training to settle to the job at hand, BPIB.

Labrador Retriever Post Graduate (1,0)

1) Lintern, Northernjoy Serendipity. Felt this chocolate bitch was of good type and possessed good bone and depth despite being from a smaller mould. Pretty head while still retaining strength through her muzzle. Balanced angulation, best of feet. A superbly thick and well wrapped otter tail. Very sound mover, just needs more enthusiasm. BOB

Golden Retriever Post Graduate (5,0)

1) Kelly, Ramchaine You Spin Me Right Round in Zenevieva. I thought this mid gold dog to be of the highest quality from nose to tail, my other ‘find of the day’. Loved his masculine head, good shape to skull with the darkest of eyes, creating such a kind expression. Good reach of neck that flows into a well made forehand with good forechest for age. Tight feet with strong bone. Ample depth and width through his body and quarters with still more to come. Level topline, excellent croup and tailset with well bent stifles and short, firm hocks. On the move he is hard to ignore, sound both ways with an easy side gait. All of his attributes combined with his extrovert attitude gave him that something ‘extra’. Could not be denied BOB and was thrilled to watch him continue to give his all to win G1, I will be following this dog’s career with great interest!

2) Williams & Williams, Auristela Lady Luck at Lamhryn. Ultra feminine pale bitch. Built on smaller and more compact lines than 1 but still has lots of appeal. Pretty head with dark eyes, would prefer slightly darker pigment. Very good angulation both fore/aft. Deep brisket with a strong topline and correctly set tail. Excellent mover from all angles, aided by very professional handling.

3) McNeish & McNeish, Drumkilty Toodle Pip.

Golden Retriever Open (4,1)

1) Kelly, Ramchaine You Spin Me Right Round in Zenevieva. Post Graduate winner, see above.

2) McNeish & McNeish, Drumkilty Toodle Pip. Excellent strength and substance to this pale bitch without coarseness. Liked her very much for breed type and overall proportions. Her head possesses a very soft expression with dark eyes and good pigment. Well bodied up with balanced angulation and strong topline. I just felt she needed to tighten on the move in comparison to those in front of her. Her young handler did a grand job with her!

3) Wright, Palton Panetela.
