Scunthorpe Canine Association

PASTORAL GROUP

Thank you to the team at Scunthorpe Canine Association for inviting me to judge at your lovely, friendly open show. I had a great selection of breeds of very good quality to judge, including several more unusual ones. It was quite a task reading all the standards the night before, but worth it. Thank you for entering your dogs for me to judge.

BEARDED COLLIE

JUNIOR (3)

1. Canty’s Bargemon High Society. Only 7 months old, but well grown and won on movement. Nice head proportions. Good shoulders and straight front legs. Level topline, well-muscled hindquarters, well bent stifles and low hocks, providing smooth movement covering the ground, showing pads. BEST PUPPY.

2. Robinson’s Thingamebob Strike a Pose. Another nice puppy bitch with good length of back providing the correct lean active look. In good coat and condition. Level topline and well-muscled hindquarters. Should look good when matured. Very attractive coat colour.

3. Wallis’ Calowych Forget Me Not.

POST GRADUATE (1)

1. May’s Memorylane More Than Words for Sengalas. Well-proportioned head with flat skull, broad and square, giving correct expression. Level back of good length, providing a nice outline. Well-muscled hindquarters, good turn of stifle, enabling her to move very well.

OPEN (3)

1. May’s Sengalas Indiana True. Mature four-year-old bitch looking her best. Lovely head portions with flat, broad, square skull and dark eyes. Slightly arched neck going into good shoulders. Level back of good height to length ration, providing a nice outline. Moved extremely well gliding around the ring with good reach, covering the ground and showing her pads. In full coat to complete the picture. Very well made, but feminine. BEST OF BREED.

BORDER COLLIE

JUNIOR (3)

1. Greening’s Kanamaren Take These Pearls. Very attractive feminine bitch. Super well-proportioned head, broad skull and distinct stop. Correct height and athletic proportioned body giving a balanced look. Well-muscled with good turn of stifle producing free, smooth movement with minimum lift of feet.

2. Chance’s Goytre Chance to Reflect. Nice masculine dog. Very good head, nicely proportioned with correct skull and stop. Good front and shoulders, nicely bodied. Appeared longer on leg, but still balanced. In excellent coat and condition. Unfortunately, his handler could not move him to his best advantage, which was a shame.

POST GRADUATE (2)

1. Akester & Wiltshire’s Thwaitlake Everything I am. Super type of Border Collie, feminine but with plenty of bone and substance. Well-proportioned head with broad skull and defined stop. Lovely ears, set well apart, carried erect and used. Good front and lay back of shoulder. Correct topline, kept on the move. Expertly handled and moved like a dream.

2. Porter’s Kirkwind Shooting Star. Nice maturing masculine dog, but not coarse. Head OK with broad skull. In lovely full coat, giving good mane, breeching and brush. Nice hindquarters with well-turned hindquarters. Did not seem to move so well as the above on the day.

OPEN (3)

1. Akester & Wiltshire’s Thwaitlake Wake up Mr West. Another lovely dog from this kennel. Presented to perfection and handled with skill. With his keen, alert temperament, loving his handler so much, he tends to raise his tail in excitement above the body line, altering his whole outline when on the move. Tail carriage in low set tail dogs is very important to me, which nearly lost him his placing. Luckily, the handler controlled him intime. Well-proportioned head, correct skull with super well-placed ears and carriage. Well-structured with super hindquarters and turn of stifle. Nice outline when standing. Moved very well when his tail was not so high. BEST OF BREED.

2. Greening’s Arniston Maid of Honour at Kanamaren. Very nice feminine bitch with enough substance. Good head proportions, nice front, body and hindquarters with good turn of stifle. In excellent coat, presenting a super outline. Like some Border Collie bitches I know, she just lacked that animation to beat the dog.

3. Porter’s Kirkwind Jumping Jupiter.

COLLIE (ROUGH)

POST GRADUATE (4)

1. Whitaker’s Siluto Over the Blue Moon. I thought I had judged the two sisters and mum before & looking up my records I had but put the sisters the other way round before. There is very little difference between the two and on the day this one showed better. Well-proportioned head, flat skull and correct stop. Medium sized eyes with sweet expression. Ears carried semi-erect. Well arched neck of nice length. Straight forelegs with good round bone. Correct length of body, with slight rise over loin. Nice oval feet. Tail bone reaching hock joint. The best sound mover in the breed on the day, but I wish she had more drive. Very nicely presented, in good coat. BEST OF BREED.

2. Scott’s Whatacoo the One and Only with Aniesh. Correctly proportioned head and well-set ears. Good shoulder placement with forelegs straight and muscular. Well-constructed hindquarters. Lovely tri coloured coat of correct texture and condition. Moved OK.

3. Allsopp’s Aqualita it’s a Miracle.

OPEN (4)

1. Whitaker’s Siluto Misterious Girl. Exactly the same remarks as her sister above. Not putting anything into showing herself off and moving with drive.

2. Scott’s Aniesh Legend in Black. Seven years old. In lovely condition for her age, well-constructed body. Was carrying a super coat of correct texture a credit to her owner.

SHETLAND SHEEPDOG

PUPPY (1)

1. Sutherland’s Shelcrest Winter Solstice. Lovely outline of a super puppy. Well-proportioned head with good eye and ear placement to give the correct characteristic expression. Full dentition. Nicely developed and in good coat for his age. Level back with sweep over loins and good turn of stifle. BEST PUPPY.

2.

JUNIOR (1)

1. Sorockyj & Haine’s Padawan Mandalorian. Only just a year old and a little apprehensive on the day. But a lot to like about him. Correct head, giving sweet expression. Well-constructed, in good condition and displaying a super coat. Moved very well. With maturity he should grow into a very nice dog.

POST GRADUATE (3)

1. Rowan’s Degallo Dream Girl at Rowancrest. Good head, lovely eyes and super expression. Well-constructed body with nice topline. Presented in very good coat, giving an overall good picture.

2. Sorockyj & Haine’s Padawan Mandalorian. As before.

3. Sutherland’s Shoughies Starmaker.

OPEN (3)

1. Sorockyj & Haine’s Mohnesee Share the Dream with Padawan JW. A very nice example of the breed. Full dentition. Well proportioned, balanced head with correct shaped eyes and well-placed ears on top of the head to give the characteristic sweet expression. Good shoulders and front legs, lovely topline and hindquarters. Presented in excellent coat to complete the picture. Moved very well. BEST OF BREED.

2. Sutherland’s Shoughies Starmaker. I was sorry to learn that this lovely sheltie had been attacked and was still recovering from his ordeal. Good mouth with full dentition. Nice head with heavier ears, but nice almond shaped eyes. Well-constructed dog in excellent coat and condition. I hope his owner perseveres with him because it will be with it.

3. Saunders’ Chalmoor I’m a Peach at Fernfrey.

ANY VARIETY NOT SEPARATELY CLASSIFIED PASTORAL

PUPPY (3)

1. Cockerham’s Hungarian Pumi, Yakuza Roisin Dubh. Appeared to be a good example of the breed. Long narrow head carried proudly with the distinctive high set ears with the upper third bending forward. Well laid back shoulders with straight forelegs set well under the body not too wide apart. Square outline, top line level, back short. Strong hindquarters with moderate angulation. Moved very well, light and lively in correct short strides. Well grown wavy, curly coat. BEST PUPPY.

2. Moir’s Lancashire Heeler, Hoscar Hopscotch. Well-proportioned head, almond shaped eyes, erect ears set wide on flat skull. Attractive colour and markings. Unfortunately, he did not like being handled too much and insisted on turning his front feet out too much. Between coats.

JUNIOR (4)

1. Gibbons & Satherley’s Australian Shepherd, Wispafete Belongs to Music. Very eye-catching Aussie. Clean, slightly arched neck fitting smoothly into good shoulders. Forelegs straight with moderate, oval bone and slightly sloping pasterns. Strong, firm, level topline. Well-turned stifles, hocks well let down. Moved straight, smoothly with good speed. In good coat.

2. Ellwood’s Welsh Corgi (Pembroke), Ellhar Olga’s Princess. A rather naughty little person. Had the correct foxy head and well-placed ears to give an alert, intelligent expression. Very nice forequarters with short lower legs and forearms molded round her chest, which was broad and deep, well let down between her forelegs. Level topline, good hindquarters with well angulated stifles. Nice rich coloured coat. Moved OK when she behaved.

3. Hopkins’ Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Lisjovia Sweet but Psycho.

4. Moir’s Lancashire Heeler, Hoscar Hopscotch.

POST GRADUATE (3)

1. Gibbons & Satherley’s Australian Shepherd, Wispafete Belongs to Music. As above.

2. Hopkins’ Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Lisjovia Sweet but Psycho. Correct mouth, well-shaped eyes, good ear set and curved skull. Balanced outline. In lovely condition and well boned for such a young bitch. Had the characteristic double dewclaws on each hindleg. Moved OK. Nice white coat. Just needs time to mature, being such a large breed.

OPEN (7)

1. Fieldsend’s Catalan Sheepdog, Du Domaine Des Dhalbergs at Starwell (Fra Imp). I really fell in love with this dog and would have loved to have taken him home. Excellent example of the breed. Strong head, well-proportioned and marked central furrow. Round eyes and high set triangular ears hanging close to the head. Good mouth with black lips and roof of mouth. Strong, muscular back of correct proportion with level topline. Strong and muscular hindquarters with well-developed first and second thighs. Hocks well let down with doble boned dew claws. Very nice smooth movement. In good coat. BEST A.V.N.S.C. PASTORAL.

2. Fisher’s German Shepherd Dog, Kintaro Lady Sansa of Sannah. I also fell in love with this one as well. My type of German Shepherd. Super temperament. Well-proportioned, clean-cut head, fairly broad between the ears, with slightly domed forehead. Good mouth with full dentition. Nice neck, good lay of shoulder and oval boned front legs. Lovely length and topline of back. Strong, well-muscled hindquarters with correct angulation. Strong hocks and rounded feet. Very sound moving with good reach and thrust. Lovely coloured coat in good order.

3. Gibbons & Spencer’s Australian Shepherd, Wispafete Once Upon a Dream.

4. Hopkins’ Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Lisjovia Sweet but Psycho.

5. Moir’s Lancashire Heeler, Hoscar Hopscotch.

A.V. IMPORTED BREED REGISTER PASTORAL

OPEN (2)

1. Pickering’s Picardy Sheepdog, Ir Ch Murray D’Ered Luin Avec Picarboo (imp Fra). Masculine dog. Correct rugged appearance. Well-proportioned head, with distinctive long eyebrows. Strong foreface with beard and moustache. Oval eyes and high set ears, broad at the base and slightly rounded tips. Good shoulders and forearms. Correct length of body, well-muscled hindquarters and good feet. Flowed effortlessly around the ring. BEST A.V. IMPORT REGISTER PASTORAL.

2. Pickering’s Picardy Sheepdog, Ir Ch Alpha Natura Nike Avec Picarboo (Imp Den) Bel Jnr Ch Dutch Jnr Ch. Feminine bitch. Although higher qualified than her kennel mate, she is not looking as good at the moment. The handler advises she has not travelled well. Obviously, a good type but at the moment rather narrow in front, lacking in weight, coat and movement. I hope she regains her former glory.

A.V. PASTORAL VETERAN (8) All three veterans were a credit to their owners.

PUPPY (2)

1. Hartmannova’s Bull Terrier (Miniature) Look at me Mr Flashy. A very nice example of the breed. Long, strong well-proportioned head, correctly egg shaped, with almost flat skull. Beautiful triangular, well sunken dark eyes giving a piercing glint. Erect ears set close together. Good round boned front legs. Well-rounded body with plenty of substance and muscle for only seven months, but still keeping his size. Super profile. Needs to settle on the move. One to watch. BEST PUPPY.

JUNIOR (1)

1. Hartmannova’s Bull Terrier (Miniature). Look at me Mr Flashy. As above.

POST GRADUATE (4)

1. Gent & Lees’ Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Sumirick Bellini Kaytee. Lots to like about this very feminine striking bitch. Still needs to mature more, grow more coat and body up so she does not look so long. Won on showmanship, well balanced and movement. Super well-proportioned head, with all the right angles and squareness, even large black nose. Super clear, bright, dark, hazel eyes and well-set V shaped ears. Strong body with muscular hindquarters and well bent stifles. Moved very gracefully around the ring.

2. Stannard’s Bedlington Terrier, Durhamites Unzip Alastair. A good example of his breed, beautifully presented. Perhaps, on the bigger side, but balanced. Narrow, rounded skull, with silky top-knot. Small, bright, triangular, deep-set eyes and correct ears. Nice when viewed from the front. Good deep chest with correct amount of natural arch over the loin. Nicely muscled hindquarters giving the very distinctive, rather mincing Bedlington movement. Good feet.

3. Hartmannova’s Bull Terrier (Miniature). Look at me Mr Flashy.

4. Goodman’s Manchester Terrier, Joe Mario Moonlit Shadow.

OPEN (7) What a wonderful class of different quality terrier breeds.

1. Clarke’s Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Flaxela Perfect Storm. I have admired this kennel for many years, in particular the mother of this young dog. I feel honoured to have judged him. He is so impressive. Well balanced in structure and movement, standing four square with head and tail up, having all the attributes needed. He is just wonderful and still maturing. Beautiful head, arched neck, well bodied and compact, short strong loin, well set on tail. Powerful muscles which he uses to full advantage when gracefully moving around the ring. Correct coloured coat of correct texture. I was disappointed he was not placed higher in ‘the big ring’. BEST A.V.N.S.C. TERRIER
