Best In Show and Stakes Classes

It was a privilege and a pleasure to judge Stakes classes and Best In Show at this well organised and successful Premier Show. The stakes classes were well supported and filled with quality exhibits. It came as no surprise to see such a quality line up for both Best in Show and Best Puppy.

My selection for Best in Show was Clifford’s blue cocker, Wyncastle’s French Quarter Smash with Chamford who looked well standing and was so good to go over. Lovely head, neck and shoulders. Well constructed and balanced in body with good angulation. He was presented in super coat and moving to advantage holding his topline well. Reserve was Evans’ Sussex Sh Ch Yorkham Rocking Rudolph, improved so much since I judged him as a youngster. Balanced head, strong neck and correct front. Good length and depth to his body. He has good width to his quarters and moved at the correct pace to show drive and power. Group 3 was Mahon Hunns and Newton’s Chesapeake Bay Retriever Sh Ch Arnac Bay Huron at Bergelle. Well constructed dog with strength and super muscular condition. Good width to his skull, well boned through with depth to his chest and firmness over his loins. He too moved to advantage, a worthy champion. Group 4 was Brown and Filby’s GSP Winterwell Thatlldo for Desijem quality junior with so much to like. Feminine head, typical expression and so well put together. Moved with precision, just lacked the maturity of those above. Should go on to do well.

Best Puppy in show presented another quality line up. I’m sure that many will go on to make their mark as they develop and mature. Best Puppy in Show was Rodgers’ Weimaraner Minstergate Carnival, so promising and full of quality. Refined in head with good reach of neck. Well angulated shoulders, correct length of body. Super quarters which she used to advantage moving with reach and drive. Reserve Best Puppy was Clayton’s Curly Coated Retriever Lizallwood Mr Bojangles, impressed in the puppy stakes class and continued to catch my eye here. So well made and good to go over. Balanced in head with plenty of substance but not overdone. Supoer coat for a liver of his age and moving so truly. One to be proud of. Puppy Group 3 was Oddie’s Pointer Sharnphilly Queens Gambit for Riowood, very much the baby here but so appealing. Super head and clean in neck with good layback of shoulder. Well boned with good width to her quarters and good turn of stifle. Moving well for one so young. Another one for the future. Puppy group 4 was Stevenson’s Welsh Springer Mymmsbrook Matador with Blythway looking well standing. Balanced in head with good bone and in good body. Good angulation both front and rear. Moved well for his age. Completed a quality line up.
