STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIERS
JUDGE DAVE MCKIMM
Firstly, my thanks must go to the Club for inviting me to judge at this lovely show and the excellent hospitality afforded to me. I thoroughly enjoyed my day. Whilst we are still very much coming out of the other side of what has been a terrible period of life for everyone, and the manic amount of shows that have been run, for Staffords there have been very few spare weekends in the calendar that haven’t had a Champ Show so my most sincere gratitude must go to every exhibitor that brought dogs under me as the weekends are extremely precious. A special thankyou also to my Steward for the day, Elaine, who did a great job of keeping everything running smoothly for me. Whilst numbers were over all low, the quality of dogs on the day for me was excellent and some really difficult decisions to be made in some classes but at the end of the day, made they must be, and only one opinion on one day.
Mouths were all good aside of 1 or 2 dirty teeth, odd tip worn off a canine so will not be mentioned further
Icing on the cake was for me to stay and see my BOB gain 3rd place for Best Terrier in Show
Puppy Dog 2 (1)
1st Finstaff Pistol Pete (Cherry and Millar) 21.10.20 BPD and BPIB
Red with white patch on front and dark muzzle. Excellent pigmentation, head showing good strength with decent length of muzzle and a good underjaw with clean lips , lovely neat ears and dark eye which create a super expression . Clean, straight front of good width, plenty of bone and beautiful, neat well-padded feet. Well ribbed for age, correctly coupled and clean outlines with powerful rear quarters. He stood alone in class as did many others but I’ve no doubt he was more than capable of holding his own in competition. Moved well once settled on the mat holding his topline and handled well. I did for a moment consider him for Best Dog, but the Limit dog just outdid him on overall sparkle today, I’m sure he is going to shine in his career, thank you for bringing him and best of luck for the future.

1st Magicgem Daredevil for Shawrigg (A & T,R Hamilton and Murphy) 19.10.18
Flashy red dog that’s a live wire and makes his handler work all the way though class. Clean head with good proportions, distinct stop and a dark eye, tidy ears used well, tight lips and plenty of underjaw. Correct front with ample width and good bone, correct depth of brisket, plenty of rib and short coupled with strong rear quarters with good angulation. Up on his toes throughout the class. Put down in good hard fit condition. Moved ok once settled holding his topline, handled well
Limit Dog 4 (0)
1st Brockmar I am Titanium at Finnstaff (Cherry & Millar) 03.04.19, BD, BOB
Black Brindle with white front. Lovely head of good proportions with a well-defined stop, very clean and good length to muzzle with a decent underjaw and clean enough in the lip. Well placed dark eye and well placed neat ears that were used to great advantage both in class and in the challenge. Beautiful clean front with good width and good depth of brisket, well boned and very neat feet. Short and strong neck leading into correctly placed shoulders, good spring of rib , closely coupled and rear angulation ok with a powerful rear end that he used well to take him round the ring holding a good topline. Viewed from all angles just says nice smart standard dog of good quality. He was the one with his eyes on me through the class and again in the challenge which finally sealed the deal on awarding BD and BOB on both occasions
Very pleased to see him and his handler put in an equally good performance to take 3rd in Terrier Group, and I hope much more to come from this lad, well done and thankyou for bringing him
2nd Tagstane Tyger Tyger (Mr & Mrs T & G Owen) 16.09.19
Eye catching Brindle with white front and another of great quality. Lovely head of good proportions, dark eye and well set neat ears that he knows how to use to create a superb expression. Good clean front with good width and ample bone and lovely, neat feet. Correct shoulders, plenty of rib and closely coupled with a nice well developed and powerful rear end put down in great condition, he moved really well holding a level topline. A close decision between the 2 and in the end pipped a little on ring presence and a preference for the more compact 1st place but I expect he has a very bright future and will observe with interest.

1st Kargonstaffs Katana (Mr C Boyle) 19.03.17
Black brindle with white on chest. Typical head shape with distinct stop, tidy ears, dark enough eye, correct muzzle length and a clean foreface with good underjaw . He has a great expression which was used plenty through the class. Very clean straight front with good width and plenty of bone and very neat feet. Plenty of rib and depth to brisket and close coupled. Put down in great condition with a powerful rear end that moved him effortlessly out and back holding his topline, another very alert throughout and on his toes.
2nd Diamondstaff Jack’N Black (Miss F Campbell) 14.02.16
Black brindle dog with many of the same qualities of my 1st place. Very pleasing head, dark eye and clean in lip, neat ears which he uses to great advantage. Front is clean and straight just a little less width than my 1st place, ok for rib and correctly coupled with good rear angulation. Another excellent mover holding his topline and put down in immaculate condition by his handler. He has good ring presence and watches the proceedings with great interest, eyes always following you around the ring
Puppy Bitch 2 (1)
1st Finnstaff Queen Of The North (Cherry & Millar) 31.10.20 BPB
Red bitch with black mask and litter sister to the puppy dog. She was a bit giddy on introductions today but settled down well. Feminine and clean head with excellent pigmentation, well placed piercing dark eyes, and tidy ears creating a pleasing expression. Good strength to muzzle and ample underjaw. Plenty of bone on this little one for size and a good width to front. Powerful front and rear quarters with lovely tidy feet. Good for rib at this age and correctly coupled with everything coming on well enough, she is lagging behind her litter brother at the moment on maturity but be nice to see her again in a few months. Well presented, very attentive in the ring watching the proceedings with great interest, moved ok, handled well
Junior Bitch 1 (0)
1st Tillcarr Halo Of Fire (Miss & Mr A & A Mcvay & Hughes) 12.05.20
Black Brindle with white patch on chest and another giddy one. Pretty bitch, pleasing head, feminine but with strength and still some way to go. Nice well set dark eyes, very clean in the foreface, neat well placed ears that she used to advantage giving a beautiful expression. She has enough bone for size, and good depth of brisket with a clean front of decent width. Correct shoulder placement, rear angulation good and she moved well out and back maintaining her topline. Presented in nice condition and a perfect picture of a healthy, happy youngster with a very close relationship with her handler. This little lady was so happy to be in the ring, her tail never stopped from the moment she entered to the moment she left and a pleasure to judge.

1st Jackabyte Wonderlust at Rhebelstaff (A & G Duncan) 01.12.19 BB , RBOB
Black brindle bitch with just the prettiest face that couldn’t help but draw you in. Very feminine head with the darkest of eyes and when coaxed, the neatest of ears that she is perfectly capable of using well to create a beautiful expression. Very clean around the muzzle with tight lips and good underjaw. A nice straight clean front with good width for size and good bone, very neat feet, enough rib and correctly coupled, nicely developed rear quarters that allowed her to move with ease when settled and looks good from all angles. I look forward to seeing this one have a very bright future once her handler has figured out how to get enthusiasm on tap but as I wrote in my preamble its been a very tough year to date for all the exhibits and no doubt they will all benefit from a good rest at the end of this year. All the very best of luck with her and thank you for bringing her.
2nd Ashstaff Painted Lady (Mrs,Mr, Miss K, C & B Boyle) 07.05.15
Judged this bitch before and what a package she is, I recall at the time nearly 4 years previous her impressive level of fitness and she still has it now. Flashy red bitch with white front and toes. Strong but feminine head and tidy enough ears that she used well and dark eye, clean in the lip and a good underjaw , tidy feet. Ample bone and clean straight front with plenty of width, powerful rear quarters and on her toes throughout the class. A different package to my first place and generally all over much stronger but standard. Her over all condition a credit to her owners, she screams Stafford and can only imagine she’s a very entertaining one to have on the couch with attitude in abundance. Moved well and handled well
