South West Essex Canine Association,
Monday 30th August 2021

I was delighted to attend SWECA to judge my first Best in Show appointment with fabulous entries in both stakes and gundogs. I have very fond memories of this show having attended here since I was a little kid! The show was exceptionally well run and I had a fabulous steward who kept everything moving swiftly along. I was blessed with many beautiful exhibits and very sporting exhibitors.

thoroughly enjoyable day and I even managed my 10,000 steps JUST judging!

My Best in Show from a quality line-up was Gunn & Cannon’s Afghan, Int Ch, Lux Ch Amal Salang

Hey I’m The Star at Zushkhan (Imp), lovely feminine black bitch with aristocratic bearing, not

surprised to see she has multiple titles – just such super quality. Appeals standing & moving with

springy movement, very well balanced throughout. Couldn’t resist her from this super line-up of

class dogs. Very well handled. Reserve Best in Show was Clark & Ortizo’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Powerpack Lachlan Dorin, classy black brindle & white male in lovely condition; both in muscle

condition & also the sheen on his coat. Appeals in head with broad skull, well boned, good

substance, moved with power, really has lots of appeal - lovely boy!

A lovely quality group of puppies, my Best Puppy in Show was Davies’ Dandie Dinmont Terrier,

Dandie Dream Call Me Winner (Imp). As soon as I got my hands on this boy I prayed for him to

move well, and he did! Melting head with lovely eyes, long & strong through his body, such a cheeky

little mover; a little John Travolta strutting along the ground with such swagger. A Divine Dandie &

he’s only 6 months. I loved him! Reserve Best Puppy in Show was Wheeler’s Boxer, Olibetay Bella

Rose, dark brindle & white, nice bitch both standing & moving, well balanced head, lovely feet, and

well put together. Appeals in outline & has presence.

Best Veteran in Show was Nicholls’ Basenji, Ch Nganga’s It’s One Heck Of A Storm (Imp), quality

exhibit, aristocratic head, well laid shoulders & in lovely condition. Stood out for sheer quality both

standing & moving - no wonder he has his crown! Very well deserved. Reserve Best Veteran in Show

Davidson-Poston’s Papillion, Ch, Ir Ch, Nl Ch & Int Ch Spinillons Rebel Rowser JW ShCM CW14 VW

ShCEx, such show presence from this cheeky little black & white veteran. Really shows his heart out

both standing & moving. Lovely depth of chest, good ribbing & level topline. Couldn’t be ignored,

sound throughout. I can’t believe he is nearly 11!

Spaniel (Welsh Springer)

SY (1): 1 Cooper’s Gilstonia Snow Moon, lively junior bitch with good body properties presenting a

pleasing picture in outline. Nice head in profile, clean neck into shoulders, moderately angled rear, in

good condition. Just needs time to mature.

O (2): 1 BOB & G3 Revill & Monday’s Julita Ryveeta JW, lovely head & a glint of mischief in those

eyes! She didn’t take her eyes off me when I was writing my critique and I got the impression she

was up for play time, any time! Clean neck into sloping shoulders, deep brisket, appeals both

standing & moving with good powerful movement; would certainly like to watch her move out in a

spacious field; 2 RBOB Cooper’s Isfryn Lady Grey of Gilstonia, lovely head, good bone & feet which

are not always easy to assess on the sand, well coupled, in lovely condition, moved co-ordinately.

Preferred the outline of 1.

Spaniel (English Springer)

SY (1): 1 BOB Rowlinson’s Meltarose Midshipman, eye-catching boy who would have stood out in

any company without a doubt. Nice head in profile, clean neck, brisket down to elbow, compact

Pointer

I was absolutely delighted with my quality entry of Pointers!

P (3, 1): Both puppies by the same sire. 1 Norbury & Adams’ Heartbury Lord Asriel, raw orange &

white baby, handler knows his dog & presents him with perfection. Appeals in outline once he drops

into himself, masculine head, lovely eye, nice angles, moved co-ordinately, in good condition; 2

Mennen & Sweeney’s Lundgarth Wild Yarrow, black & white, just 6 months & having the time of his

life which made it difficult for me to assess him, but you can’t dispute his quality & I liked him very

much. With practice, he & his new handler will have fun times ahead for sure.

J (2, 1): 1 BP & PG2 Norbury & Adams’ Heartbury Northern Lights, litter sister to Lord Asriel, 10

months, orange & white appeals in outline, with smooth lines & good body properties. Clean neck,

brisket down to elbow, well laid shoulders, nice ribbing, lovely rear angulation, moved & handled

well. Quality bitch with a promising future.

white male who stands with good posture even when not in show mode. Appeals in head, clean neck

into shoulders, brisket down to elbow, in super condition; strong throughout his body which you can

both see & feel. Watching him move away, he is clearly well muscled & this gave him a powerful

drive. Has ring presence which is lovely to see; 2 Welch, Maber & Hazletine’s Sharnphilly Toggi with

Hookwood JW, a lovely black & white bitch who has done well under me before in a huge stakes

class. I have not changed my opinion; she is quality all over with pretty head, clean neck into

shoulders & good angles. She was feeling the cold today on the sandy equestrian floor & huddled

into herself; 3 Brooksmith’s Nightgold Pipkin.

O (7, 1): 1 BOB & G1 Hazeltine & Welch’s Pytchley Chasing The Dream for Hookwood JW, another

who has done well under me before, & my comments still apply: sound black & white male, appeals

with graceful outline & ground covering movement. Quality throughout, with lovely condition,

everything just flows & he looks the part standing in the line-up. I was delighted to find he won the

Group – well deserved; 2 RBOB Vowell & Horn’s Droveborough’s Smooth Mover JW, appealing

orange & white male, very polished in outline and gives a very stylish performance overall. Certainly

eye-catching & his handler shows him well, clean neck into shoulders, good bone, brisket down to

elbow, well-muscled, good angles. On his toes; 3 Ovel’s Plungevale Queen Of Hearts at Jimaura.

correct body properties, tight feet, clean neck, well handled.

AV Minor Puppy Stakes (17, 10): 1 Mennem & Sweeney’s black & white Pointer Lundgarth Wild

Yarrow, judged in his breed where he was having a field day & hard to assess, here he really got his

act together. Very smart & anatomically sound, balanced throughout with lovely qualities. The

handler is to be congratulated on her perseverance & interim training between breed & stakes. It

paid off; 2 O’Reilly’s Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, Tollelkin Dream Loch, really smart baby both

standing & moving & very together already being compact in appearance, good depth of chest, level

topline, moved well; 3 Nicholls’ Akita, Zhbanof Yaramira Shyllar (Imp).

AV Puppy Stakes (16, 9): 1 Mayston’s Border Collie, Miraje Winter Is Coming (AI), stood out for
