Central & Southern German Shorthaired Pointer Society

CENTRAL & SOUTHERN GSP OPEN SHOW

3rd July 2021

Judge: Anthony Allen

Many thanks to the Central and Southern GSP Society for inviting me to judge at their open show and for running a very successful double open show with last years postponed show. There were very few clashes, and with the guidance of my super stewards the day ran very smoothly. To the exhibitors my thanks for the sporting way you accepted my decisions and for bringing some super dogs for me to go over, I found the quality very high.

DOGS

MPD. (3,1)

1. Kavacanne Bolt from the Blue. BPD.

Good overall shape on this young man, head pleasing, and he has a clean outline for his age. Good front on him, shoulders well placed and a decent return of forearm. Body of good proportions, slightly longer in loin but that should even up as he grows. Well boned legs with neat feet. Quarters well made, stifles well bent. Still needs to find his feet on the move but once he got going had a good side gait and was better on the move than the second placed dog giving him the class.

2. Montalba Mister Tea Time

Just six months old and clearly giving a lot away to the winner in maturity at the moment. Lots of potential about him, head of good shape. Well boned legs and neat feet. Good overall proportions.

1. K. Bolt from the B.

JD. (8,0)

Some super dogs in the class and was a really tough decision between the first two.

1. Orchidstar Bolts of Speed

I thought this chap had the edge on the move out of the first two. He has a good overall shape and balance and had a bit more finish against Pop the Dom. He has a clean neck into a decent front assembly, stands on good legs and super feet. Elbows well laid back. Body of good proportions, firm back and quarters well made. Good footfall on the move with plenty of drive.

2. Magregor Pop the Dom over Pothouse

Another one I really like but not quite the finish of the winner today. I preferred his head to that of the winner but today but he was looking a little heavy over the shoulders on the stack which spoilt his outline. His shoulders are well set and a good return of upper arm, ribs well sprung. Quarters well-made which he used to advantage on the move, just lost his shape on the stack at the end. Smart dog that should have a bright future ahead of him.

3. Seasham the Groover

ND. (4,1)

1. Barleyarch Hoopla at Forestpoint

Young dog at that in-between stage at the moment, head was masculine with a pleasing expression, neck clean and standing on good legs and neat feet. Needs to fill his frame which he will do in time. Moved out well.

2. Fayemm Sea the Stars

Close decision with the winner but he kept losing his shape on the stack, he held it better on the move. Head a tad strong for my tastes, neck into shoulder is clean. Good body proportion, ribs springing well and decent quarters on him. Not as accurate on the move as the winner today and that cost him the class. Shown in excellent hard condition.

3. K. Bolt from the B

PGD. (4)

1. Elfindrew Endrick to Valger

This chap stood out in this class, presenting that clean balanced outline that I was looking for. Head masculine with a good eye. I liked his neck into shoulders, which were correctly placed. Depth to chest and elbows well laid back. Stands on straight legs. Good through the body, ribs well sprung. Quarters well developed with stifles well bent. Did enough on the move to take the class, footfall was accurate but just didn’t get going in the challenge.

2. F. Sea the Stars

3. Balvenie Double Diamond J.W.

LD. (4, 1)

1. Taftazini Aiden Abbett

This dog just got better as the class went on, presented with the cleanest of outline. He has a good overall shape and size about him. Head masculine, strong clean neck into well set shoulders, with a good lay-back. Stands on well boned legs, with elbows tight to the body. Good depth to his chest, ribs well sprung, firm short back. Quarters well made with good angulation. Moved out well to take the class.

2. Seasham Live Wire at Shoshoni

Well-made dog, good overall shape, for my tastes would have like a little bit more substance of him. Head is well proportioned with eyes of a good colour, neck clean. Decent depth of chest on him and ribs well spung and back, good angulation behind. Not quite the topline of the winner, moved out well but needs a little more front extension.

3. Pingarypoint Top Secret at Kavacanne

OD. (6)

What a fabulous class this was to judge, some top quality exhibits who will no doubt change place many times over their careers.

1. Sh Ch Barleyarch Pringle JW. BD & RBIS.

Last judged him as a very young puppy, I liked him then so was pleased to see him here as the finished article and wow, has he matured into a super boy. He just commanded attention as he came into the ring. Presents with a super outline, totally in balance. Head is masculine, good breadth of skull and overall proportion. Good eye shape giving that intelligent expressions. Super clean neck in to well set shoulders. Stands on well boned, straight legs and neat feet. Depth to chest and ribs well sprung, firm in loin to give the correct topline. Quarters well made with stifles well bent and in good muscular condition. Excellent coat with harsh texture. Excelled on the move to take the class with a ground covering action. Best Dog and RBIS, thank you for bringing him again.

2. Sh Ch Barleyarch Ariat JW. RBD

Another cracking dog who I have seen from the ring side and pleased to see him walk into the class. I liked his head and expression, clean reach of neck into a decent front assembly, good depth of forechest, ribs well sprung. Topline correct which he held on the move. Well-made quarters, with stifles well bent. Moved out well with a good ground covering action, just not as tidy as the winner as he came towards me, which cost him the top spot. Please to award him Reserve Best Dog.

3. Orchidstar Bonds of Speed JW ShCM

1. Sh Ch Barleyarch Firefly. BVIS.

First encountered this chap when he was a youngster at one of his first shows, he did well that day and was great to see him here today as a veteran, also pleased to see he gained his title. Now at seven-and-a-half still lots to like about him. Super outline on the stack, totally balanced and in proportioned. He has a pleasing head, clean cut with a soft intelligent masculine expression, just those few grey hairs giving away his age. Clean neck in to well set shoulders, stands on good legs and tight feet. Depth to chest and ribs well sprung, just a little soft in topline. Quarters are well made with stifles well bent, good from hock to heel. Moved out well with plenty of drive and accuracy of foot fall. Thank you for bringing him Best Veteran in Show.

BITCHES

MPB. (2)

1. Balvenie Eye Candy

Nice puppy, just seven months and growing in all the right directions. Liked her head and pretty expression, clean in neck, into well set shoulders. Good outline and overall proportions and quarters well made. Was more together on the move, had the better action to take the class.

2. Montalba Mrs Whitlow

Another of 7 months, not quite as mature as the winner and was at her very first show so was all a new experience for her. I liked her head and expression, good shape and overall proportions. Clean reach of neck, shoulder placement OK, good length of body. Needs to settle on the move but should happen as she gains experience and confidence.

PB. (2)

1. Winterwell Thatllldo for Desjiem.

What a smart lady she is, so well together for her young age. She has a super outline and balance. I really liked her head and expression, clean cut head with a kind eye. Neck into shoulders is excellent leading into a super front assembly with the correct lay of shoulder. Standing on straight legs and correctly place elbows. Good depth of chest for her age, firm back and well-set tail. Quarters are well made, stifles well bent. Once she settled on the move, she had a good action and covered the ground well. One I like a lot and if she continues growing in this vein, she should have a bright future ahead of her. Best Puppy in Show. I will follow her career with interest.

2. B. Eye C.

JB. (4)

1. Barleyarch Shindig with Kavacanne

A very smart bitch with a lot to like about her. Won the class on her outline and the more correct action on the move. Clean outline I liked her neck in to correctly set shoulders, decent return of upper arm and we set elbows. Good straight legs and depth of chest correct for her age. Back firm and ribs springling nicely. Quarters, well angled with a good bend of stifle. Moved out well, had the better action in the class. Liked her a lot and ran her off in the challenge but understandably lacked the finished of the older girls. Another that should do well in the future.

2. Soellis Fancy Nancy

Another good one, smaller framed and not quite as good in front action as the winner today. Head of good shape, hope her eyes darken a little to complete the picture. Neck is clean, shoulder lay back is good. Stands on well boned legs and neat feet. Body of good proportions and quarters well developed. Moved out well with plenty of drive. Coat was harsh. I suspect she will change places with the winner many times in the future.

3. Laoirebay Crystal Gem

NB. (3, 1)

1. B. Shindig with K.

2. Keigame Queenie

Good outline on this girl, head of good shape and proportions. Good neck into well set shoulders, Stands on good legs and neat feet. Ribs well sprung, not quite as good in finish to the croup as the winner. Quarters well made, with a good bend of stifle. Moved out well with drive but was a tad untidy as she came towards me.

PGB. (8, 1)

1. Fayemm Forever Together

Liked the balance on this girl. Her head was pleasing, and she had a feminine expression. Clean neck into a well-made front assembly. Body had good overall proportions, ribs well sprung and firm loin. Carrying a little extra weight which made her topline a little soft. Quarters well made, stifles well bent and well-muscled. Moved out well.

2. Keigame Sweet Lullaby of Barleydust

Good overall shape and outline, finer in bone and type than the winner. Head is pleasing with good proportions. Neck clean leading in to well set shoulders. Well proportioned.

3. Jomeel Now I’m Here

LB. (9, 2)

1. Winterwell Stoney Trail

This bitch took time to settle. She just got better as the class went on, initially on the stack she was very rigid and did not present the best shape but as she relaxed. Head is pleasing and of good proportions. Clean in neck, shoulders well set and stands on good straight legs. Body well made, ribs well sprung and quarters well made. Moved out well. In the challenge she presented the most super outline and was very close to top honours.

2. Drysika Cha Cha at Pelenrise

Soundly made bitch, well up for size but this did not detract. She has good construction with balanced angles front and rear. Head is proportionate, good front assembly on her, body in proportion with ribs well sprung. Quarters well made with a good bend of stifle. Moved out well to take this place in a competitive class.

3. Orchidstar Jenga

OB. (7, 1)

1. Barleyarch Skye at Longbarrow ShCM. BB & BIS.

Last judged this girl as a puppy and she has really come on, now definitely coming to her best. Not a big one but has femineity stamped through her, clean in outline, beautiful neck into shoulders which are well set with good angulation. Elbows are well back, she stands on straight legs and neat compact feet. Body of good overall proportions, correct depth to chest and ribs well back. Super quarters which are correctly angulated. Moved out well with a ground covering action to take the class. She excelled in the challenge to win Best Bitch. Against the dog they were very evenly matched but on the final run round I thought she had the better front extension, and she took Best in Show. Many congratulations

2. Ch. Winterwell Inca Trail JW.

Very smart bitch presented a balanced picture on the stack with correct angles front and rear, standing over plenty of ground which gives her the correct shape. Head is well proportioned and has a pleasing expression. Clean reach of neck into a super front, shoulders well placed and a good return of upper arm. Stands on good straight legs. Correct depth of chest, ribs well sprung, short back. Hindquarters well-muscled with well bent stifles. Super shape but not with her usual handler on the move in the class and just didn’t flow, so stood second. Called her back into challenge and lifted her game to take Reserve Best Bitch.

3. Balvenie Bella JW

VB. (1)

1. Jomeel Kissantell

I know it is a phase that is used often but this lady was really enjoying herself, nine years old and full of life, tail never stopped, she was a pleasure to judge. Well made throughout, head is feminine with a pretty expression, moved round the ring like a youngster which was lovely to see. Best Veteran Bitch.
