Bournemouth Ch Show 2021

Toy Group

It was great to be back judging after such a long break and thanks must go to the hard working Bournemouth committee and their helpers who put the show on for us during these challenging times. A good crowd stayed to watch which was great to see. A strong group with so many lovely toys vying for a place, I shortlisted the Crested, Pug, CKCS, Coton, Affenpinscher, ETT, Pekingese and the Pomeranian. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more of them all in the future.

1. Dunlop & McLellan’s Habiba Hold My Purse Taf - Chinese Crested. My stand out winner, she flowed around the ring with drive from behind and showed herself off with such panache. Well balanced throughout with a beautiful headpiece, clean neck fitting nicely into well laid shoulders, correct topline and tail set. Beautiful skin, crest and furnishings to complete the glamourous picture. Delighted to see that she later took Best in Show.

2. Farnworth’s Taftazini Nepalensis JW – Pug. Liked this eye catching fawn boy very much with a gorgeous masculine head, plenty of work, excellent pigmentation, dark expressive eyes and neat velvet ears. Full of breed type, with lovely balance combining substance and good bone, topped off with a fine glossy coat. Purposeful mover, with an unexaggerated roll. Showed his heart out.

3. Parsons’ Emberlace Tullamore - Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Quality boy who is balanced throughout without any exaggeration. Pleasing gentle expression, good pigment and the longest of ears framing his face. Excellent topline and very good tail set topped off with a richly coloured well-marked Blenheim coat. Moved well from all angles with a free and easy action. Breed typical temperament with his gently wagging tail, he looked a picture.

4. Holley’s Imerina Teddy Edward at Valeast - Coton De Tulear. Appealing top quality dog of good size and balance, he caught my eye with his lovely breed typical outline and white stand out correctly textured coat of good length. Attractive head and expression, dark eyes and excellent pigmentation. Good body proportions with correct backline with a slight rise over his loin and a gentle fall into a low set tail. Came into his own on the move, with strong drive from behind.

Toy Puppy Group

Another strong group with some lovely puppies present, any number of which could have taken a place.

1. Bowles-Robinson’s Baldragon Shoots He Scores - King Charles Spaniel. Quality tri boy who caught my eye as he entered the ring, with his positive flowing confident movement. Sweetest of heads with large dark eyes, well cushioned muzzle, and good dome and low set ears. Level and firm topline leading to well angulated rear and good tail set. Well-marked coat developing.

2. Hornby’s Bramerita Posh Totty - Chihuahua (Smooth Coat) – Saucy feminine girl with promising head, large correct ears, all giving a pleasing expression. She presented a lovely picture on the stand and when moving. She has a good amount of bone and body substance for her age, and her look at me confident attitude won her place.

3. Briddon & Fisher’s Samlynrye Dixie Chick at Briddish – Pug. Very promising fawn young lady, beautiful well wrinkled head, dark lustrous eyes with a hint of mischief and neat velvet ears. She has a lovely outline, compact and well off for bone with a nicely curled tail finishing the picture. Moved out confidently and soundly with desired slight roll.

4. Cawthera-Purdy’s Lireva's Finders Keepers - Pomeranian – Beautifully presented and well balanced boy, caught my eye with his compact shape, delightful head with fine muzzle and small neat ears. Came into his own on the move with his confident sound brisk action.

Toy Special Beginners Group

1. Reid’s Bubbapug Starship Trooper – Pug. This fawn dog was a clear winner for me, masculine head and delightful expression with plenty of wrinkle but not overdone, excellent pigment, round dark eyes and neat ears. Good bone and substance and a lovely outline with well curled tail. Came into his own on the move, looking particularly good in profile.

2. Carr’s Daveyluvs D' Artagnan Jw - Bichon Frisé. A nicely presented boy, with an attractive masculine head with good pigmentation and well placed eyes. Good balance throughout with well ribbed body, firm loin and well muscled hindquarters. Moved really well to earn his place.

3. Collingwood’s Glenbrows Dream a While - Miniature Pinscher. Only a baby at only 6 months with understandably lots of developing in the head and body to do. Feminine head, dark eyes and good pigment. Her clear red coat was presented in lovely condition. Good front and rear angulation, earned her place on her movement showing good lift in her front action and holding her topline on the move.

4. Paul’s Konishiki Princess Kateri - Chinese Crested. This girl has a lovely head with clean cheeks, correctly shaped eyes and well placed ears. Moderate length of neck with well laid back shoulders and nicely angulated hindquarters, she could perhaps carry a little more body. Good furnishings and skin. Positive and sound action.

Toy Breeders Group

1. Storey’s pugs. A very typy group of fawn pugs, appealed for their sturdy cobby bodies giving pleasing outline and shape. Lovely headpieces with dark well wrinkled masks and lustrous eyes. Impressive on the move particularly in profile and this is what won them the class, so sound and true away and back with the desired slight roll, Attentive to their handlers, they didn’t put a foot wrong.

2. Cawthera-Purdy’s Pomeranians. A lovely team of very typical poms, beautifully presented, compact and balanced shapes with high set tails carried over their backs. Sweet expressions, moved out with brisk sound movement just not quite in harmony as the winners.
