French Bulldogs

I would like to thank the Executive Council of SKC for the invitation to step in for Bas Bosch who was unable to fly over and judge his entry due to COVID travel restrictions; I was delighted to accept after the disappointment of cancellation of my first appointment earlier in the month. The weather conditions were not really ideal showing conditions for a breed that prefers the comfort and warmth of inside. The layout of the ring itself gave the bare minimum of shelter from the elements, the grass was a tad long, but that aside I thoroughly enjoyed awarding my first set of CC’s and I thank all the exhibitors who accepted the last minute replacement graciously by allowing me the pleasure of assessing your dogs and lastly thanks to my lovely steward who braved the elements and kept the ring running smoothly. I was pleased overall with the health of the exhibits, although there were some that were a little too short in body and Nares still need to be worked on. Presentation on the whole was excellent.

MPD – (3,0) 1) Timms & Henderson’s – Olijah Total Knockout, 7 months Brindle, a substantial puppy, up to size already. His head is square in shape with fine wrinkling to forehead, his large ears are well placed, dark widely set eye, and nose correctly placed with good nares, good width and depth to muzzle and wide lower jaw and has correct U shaped flews. His neck has correct length and shape. He has ample forechest and good shoulder placement and a well boned straight front. His topline has just enough of a roach which is better seen when free stood which leads to a low set small tail, I liked his depth of chest and underline; he has good spring of rib. His hindquarters have slightly more than moderate angulation. Presented in immaculate condition. He moved well and in tune with his handler at all times. 2) Ellis’s – Braylah Cover Me With Glitterkiss - 6 month old Brindle, a much smaller frame than 1) and I would say at this stage needs time. His head needs to gain a true squareness; he is lacking a little width across his lower jaw and muzzle at this point and has more undershot than ideal. Dark wide set eye, prominent stop and just enough wrinkling to his forehead. His ears of are a good size and shape although a little low set. He has enough width and bone for his size and a straight front. Good length of neck, he is shorter in outline than 1) with a gentle roach to topline, he has small tail. His hindquarters are moderately angulated and hocks are low set. Preferred the movement of 1st 3) Miles’s – Rancani Yellow River

JD – (3,1) ,1) Morgan & Ling’s – Agramers Balam Quitze at Tytorro – 17 month well brindled dog who was smaller in stature than some of the males, but is very well balanced and fills his neat compact frame. He has a masculine square head with well developed muscular cheeks. His deep stop creates a defined muzzle, which is well padded and has good depth. Excellent open nares. Lovely dark eyes with kind expression. Strong shapely neck. Good width and depth to chest and strong straight well boned front. Tidy feet with jet black nails. In profile he has a good cobby body shape with the required gentle rise over his strong muscular loin which finishes with his low set small tail. Muscular thick hindquarters. Close coat presented in gleaming condition. He moved freely and soundly coming and going in both his class and the challenge and I was pleased to award him the RCC. 2) Ross’s – Franstelgo’s Let Em Ride – 16 months Black Masked Fawn, larger frame than one. He has a typical large masculine square head with well developed cheeks, correct fill under eye, good width and depth to his well cushioned muzzle, wide lower jaw and correct upsweep and good dentition. His large Bat Ears are well set and are a good shape. Well placed nose with adequate nares. Strong muscular straight boned front with good depth to his chest, tidy feet but would prefer darker nails. His has a thick strong muscular neck. Good spring of rib. Gently roached topline and underline that compliments it well, in profile he is longer in loin than 1). Good sized low set tail. Would prefer a little more hind angulation. He moved soundly.

He has a well boned straight front with good pasterns and neat feet with correct black nails. Shapely neck of moderate length. He is compact in body shape with short loin. He has a roached topline but for me the top of the rise was a little in front of the loin. He has a low set small tail, well muscled hindquarters, moderate hind angulation and well let down hocks. He moved soundly and maintained his width in front. 2)Timms & Henderson’s – Olijah Cut To The Chase 7 month old Brindle so was lacking in the maturity of 1) He is the litter brother to the MP winner and they are of a similar type. Broad and deep chest, good spring of rib just enough of a roach. He is quite compact in profile. Well boned front. Thick muscular hindquarters, moved OK when settled. 2) Flockhart’s - Midlandbulls Toulouse – 5 Year old Brindle whose greying muzzle gives him the appearance of being a little older. Well boned straight front leading neat tight feet. His topline has the correct gentle rise over his short strong loin. Good underline and spring of rib. Square in head with flat skull between his wide set ears that are of a good size and shape. Dark round correctly set eyes. He lacks the width of muzzle of 1) but has correct upsweep to lower jaw. He has sweet expression. Good width and depth to his chest and has well boned straight front. In profile his neck is of moderate length and he has a gently roached topline leading to small low set tail. I felt he wasn’t carrying enough weight today which gave him a “tucked up” appearance to his underline. He has good thick muscular hind quarters and moved and was handled well. 3) McGroaty’s – Dicar I’m Oslo Ardhub

OD – (7,3) 1)Wildman & Davis’s – Wildax Barney Rubble Rowendale – 2 year old Fawn with lovely dark pigment to his mask. He has the type of large square head that you really want to get hold of. Large padded cheeks, good fill under his eye and excellent width and depth to his padded muzzle. He has tidy flews and good width and upsweep of lower jaw. He has the straightest of fronts, well boned and leads to neat feet with his good pigment continuing to his black short nails. Good width across his chest and this was reflecting in his movement coming towards, he held that width at all times with no sign of pinning in which was a problem in some. He has strong neck of moderate length. Well sprung ribs, gentle roach to his topline, short tail and well muscled thick hindquarters with moderate angulation. Presented in superb condition.
