Border Union Agricultural Society

Many thanks to Border Union committee for inviting me to judge. A pity the weather was so lousy - I know the wind and rain blowing into the ring upset a number of dogs, rather spoiling their movement and their placings. As usual, I found some short tails, and also some overlong ones. Too many folk are still bathing and trimming to perfection, but not cleaning their dogs’ teeth, detracting from their presentation. Several were carrying too much condition, which spoils the gait, but temperaments were excellent. I had to make some very close calls, which is always hard, but I was delighted with my top winners.

Minor Puppy Dog (1)

1 Huntly Forged In Steel For Hysteps (IKC,) Austin & Zolakova Ms SP & Miss K. 8Mths, B&W, stood alone, but so confident - what a promising puppy. Handsome head and expression, neat ears, good eye placement, scissor bite. Good front, feet, topline and slope of croup. Nicely balanced in both construction and movement, attentive to handler, and well handled.

Puppy Dog (3)

1 Huntly Forged In Steel For Hysteps (IKC.) Winner Minor Puppy Dog.

2 Rosehurst Royal Sunset, Mr E Broadhurst. 11Mths, B&W. Another promising puppy, lovely to go over. Good handsome head, correctly placed eyes and ears, scissor bite and kind expression. Good shoulder placement, hind angulation and balanced construction. Just outmoved today by 1.

3. Laceway Don’t Stop Me Now, Miss H Fawcett. 9Mths B&W. So much to like here. Good head and expression, good neck and shoulder placement. Hind angulation good, and correct tail. Will watch him mature with interest, as he was a little close going away today.

Junior Dog (2)

1 Arrodare Wont Back Down, Mr N Smith Mr R Green. 14Mths, B&W. Compact head, but good expression, nice eye and ear placement. Lovely outline owing to good shoulder and angles fore and aft. Level topline held on the move, and he moved out well.

2 Goytre Chance To Reflect, Mr GC & Mrs A Chance. 17Mths, B&W. Balanced outline, lovely head, good  topline, croup and hind angulation; well set tail of good length. Not quite the movement of 1.

Yearling Dog (3,1)

1 Arrodare True Legend, Lee & Ratcliffe, Miss B & Miss J. 19Mths, B&W. Handsome dog, strong head, good layback of shoulder, and upper arm. Good topline, rather long tail. Moved well, and went better the further he went.

2 Konally King Arthur, B&W. Miss Kemble. 20Mths, Nicely marked Blue Merle, in good double jacket.  Nice head and front assembly. Attentive to handler and moved out well.

Novice Dog (5,1)

1 Huntly Forged In Steel For Hysteps (IKC.) Winner Minor Puppy & Puppy Dog.

2 Moshanta Man Of The Match, Mrs L Blake. 4Yrs, B&W. Pleasing head, nice expression, good eye and ear placement, scissor bite. Nicely put together, good outline, and nice angles fore and aft. Moved out very well, just unlucky to come up against 1 today.

3. Rosehurst Royal Sunset. 2nd in Puppy Dog.

Graduate Dog (4,2)

1 Moshanta Man Of The Match. 2nd Novice Dog.

2 Cookvale Causin A Riot, Joyce & Stamp, Mr DC & Mrs JA. 7Yrs, Black Tri, striking colour, that I love. Handsome boy, good head and expression, scissor bite and clean teeth, excellent for age. Balanced outline and nice angles. Left his coat at home today, but moved out well, with drive.

Post Graduate Dog (6)

1 Janbell What A Blinder, Bell & Sloan, Mrs J & Mrs F. 2Yrs, B&W. Striking boy of excellent construction, lovely shape and all in proportion. Well balanced head and expression, correctly placed and shaped eyes and ears and scissor bite. Good reach of neck, very good front, and good, oval feet. Level topline, and good slope of croup. His natural flowing gait completed the picture, pleased to award him the RCC.

2 Chikaramor Cast A Spell of Glenfound. Rettie & Morley, Miss K & Mrs S. 3Yrs, Black Tri. Love this handsome bright Tri dog. Balanced head and kind expression, good neck onto good front assembly. Lovely topline, slope of croup and hind angulation, well set on tail of good length. Felt he just needed a bigger ring to do his movement justice, a pity we couldn’t have been outside today.

3. Wizaland Celtic Connection, Heggie & Large Mr N, Mrs J & Ms J. 5Yrs B&W. Well presented, as always, he has a lovely expression, good front and rear angles and good feet. Very sound construction, good bone and well muscled. Stood well, and he moved soundly and with purpose.

Limit Dog (10,1)

1 Miraje Frozen Again For Hysteps JW (ai,) Austin & Zolakova Ms SP & Miss K. 3Yrs, B&W.  I’ve had my eye on this dog - beautifully put together, all in proportion, he’s really coming into his own now.  Beautifully presented today, and stood, four square, totally focused on his handler. Handsome head and expression, oval, well placed eye, neat ears and scissor bite. Good reach of neck, excellent front, oval feet, and strong topline, which he holds on the move. Good hind angulation, slope of croup with a well set on, correct tail, carried low. Well muscled and in excellent coat, he was the best moving dog today, lovely to watch, showing reach and drive, as this breed must. Delighted to award him is 1st Challenge Certificate & Best Of Breed

2 Laceway Ready To Rumble, Miss H Fawcett. 2 Yrs, B&W. Loved this boy. Again, another impressive young male of athletic appearance, all in proportion. Handsome head, good eye and ear placement, neck and front assembly. Level topline, good croup, correct tail set and length, and correct hind assembly. Perfectly presented and handled expertly. Pity he was absent for the challenge.

3. Moshanta May Contain Nuts JW, Mrs PA Hartfield. 2Yrs, B&W. Plenty to like here, well balanced construction throughout. Good head, lovely neck into good layback of shoulder, level topline, good slope of croup, just not yet quite the hind angulation he will have, as he matures, but definitely one to watch.

Open Dog (4,1)

1 Janbell One Step Beyond, Mrs JE Heggie. 6 Yrs, B&W. Lovely head, beautiful ear set and expression, oval well placed eye, and good reach of neck onto well placed shoulders. Great condition and in gleaming coat. Good angulation fore and aft, and he moved out soundly, with purpose.

2 Tobermoray All About Banksy JW SBCHT, Mrs AR Spencer. Rising 6Yrs, Bl&W. Quality dog who has done well under me before. Lovely masculine head, not overdone, kind expression. Good reach of neck into good shoulders and front. Level topline, croup and correct turn of stifle, just lost out to the movement of 1 today.

3. Kinaway All Is Said And Done For Jacamalis.  5Yrs, B&W. Handsome dog, well presented. Lovely head, kind expression and very good neck. Level topline, good bend of stifle, and he moved with drive, tail carried low.  

Veteran Dog (2)

1 Ir Sh Ch Locheil Great Expectations, Mrs JE Heggie. 11.5Yrs, B&W, his age belies his looks; a proper veteran dog, who can still show his socks off. Excellent condition for his age and moved well, but could change places with 2 on any occasion.  

2 Janbell Rudeboy CJW 13 ShCM Ir Jun Sh Ch, Mrs JE Heggie. 9.5Yrs, B&W. Another proper veteran dog, who has done well under me before. A masculine, handsome boy, of well balanced, all round good construction. Correctly placed and shaped eyes and pricked ears, correct bite and very alert expression. Good bone, and in great condition, just didn’t move today quite as I know he can.

1 Tobermoray Driving Ms Daisy, Mrs AR Spencer. 9Mths, B&W. Such confidence for a young puppy, lovely to go over. Feminine head, well placed oval eye, neat ears, and good expression. Correct angulation front and rear, good bone and feet, and she moved out freely. Maturing nicely, very promising, one to watch.

2 Moshanta Move On, Mrs PA Hartfield. 11Mths, B&W. Very feminine puppy, smaller type than 1, but everything in the right place. Today she really didn’t like the wind & rain blowing in, which sadly spoiled her otherwise correct moment.

3 Borderbrook Winter Sunset, Ms A Kempton. 10Mths, B&W. Another pretty girl, well presented. Correct for her age and development, just found 2 very good puppies ahead of her today.

Junior Bitch (6,2)

1 Sashdan Diamond Deeva In Glenfound NAF RAF (IMP,) Miss K Rettie. 13Mths, B&W. Caught my eye immediately, lovely outline, attractive head, good neck and shoulders. Very good angles fore and aft, and excellent feet. Moved well in all directions.

2 Moshanta Move On. 2nd in Puppy Bitch.

3 Thwaitlake Black Betty At Syanne, Mrs A Durie. 17Mths, B&W. Lovely dark girl, kind expression, good eye & ear placement, correct bite. Good front & rear angulation, moved out well.

Yearling Bitch (3)

1 Hysteps Leap Of Faith, Austin & Zolakova Ms SP & Miss K. 19Mths, B&W. Striking bitch, so much to like here. Impressive, althletic appearance, lovely head, good topline and front and hind assembly, she won this class on her lovely, well balanced, free-flowing movement.

2 Thwaitlake Black Betty At Syanne. 3rd in Junior Bitch.

3 Kinaway Kisses With Fire. Mr D & Mrs KA Kinton. 20Mths, B&W. Another good bitch from this kennel. Outline nicely in proportion, well presented. Attractive head, with pleasing expression, she moved well and soundly, liked her side gait.

Novice Bitch (5,1)

1 Sashdan Diamond Deeva In Glenfound. 1st in Puppy Bitch.

2 Arrodare Showdown, Lee & Ratcliffe, Miss B & Miss J. 11Mths, B&W. Pretty head, good oval eye, earset and bite. Excellent neck onto lovely front, rather sloping topline. Moved well, good free stand - careful not to over-extend her when stacking.

3 Moshanta Move On. 2nd in Puppy Bitch & Junior Bitch.

Graduate Bitch (3)

1 Locheil Dream Come True, Alexander, Turner & McDonald, Mrs J, Mrs H & Ms A. 11Mths, B&W. Took my eye straight away, lovely bitch, all in proportion. Beautiful head, sweet expression, well placed eyes and ears, which she used well; well-defined stop, flat skull; good reach of neck into good layback of shoulder and lovely front. Level topline to good slope of croup, good hind angulation and well let down hocks. Moved so well in all directions and again in the challenge. Very pleased to award her both the Reserve Challenge Certificate & Best Puppy.  Not surprised to find later, she is from this top kennel.

2 Moshanta Move On. 2nd in Junior Bitch, Puppy Bitch & Novice Bitch.

3 Borderbrook Winter Sunset. 3rd in Puppy Bitch.

Post Graduate Bitch (3,1)

1 Borderbrook Fame Or Fortune, Ms A Kempton. 2Yrs, B&W. Attractive bitch, lovely shape. Pretty expression, well defined stop, scissor bite, good eye and ear placement, and so attentive to handler. Level topline which she held on the move, showing pleasing stride.

2 Dalguise Justify My Love, Strathmore, Walker & Alcorn, Mesdames BJ, J & P.  4Yrs, B&W. Lighter but construction than 1, but correct, balanced outline. Lovely expression, eye and earset. Good neck, to good layback of shoulder, allowing her to move out and glide around the ring.

Limit Bitch (4,2)

1 Windwalker Pacific Skye, Mrs P & Mr K Leslie. 4Yrs, Bl Merle. Another bitch of lighter construction. Very attractive merle coat pattern; pretty, correct head, very good front and rear angulation, and she moved effortlessly, very well.

2 Yonder Oaks Nevaeh At Borderbrook JW, Ms A Kempton. Rising 4Yrs, B&W. Different type from 1, but liked her expression and overall construction.  Carrying some extra condition today, although that didn’t stop her moving well. Good feet.

Open Bitch (7,3)

1 Locheil Lilac Dream, Mrs D & Mr MC Hadden. 7Yrs Lilac&White. Beautiful deep colour, almost Red & White, this pretty girl, with such an attractive head, with good ear carriage. She has a lovely, balanced outline and correct construction, with excellent front and rear angles which allowed her to move very well.

2 Coussiere Dancing Queen, Mrs J Grant. 6Yrs B&W. Lovely bitch - made me wish I could award two 1st places. Beautiful head, lovely expression, so attentive to handler. Again, balanced outline and correct construction, level top, excellent angulation, and she too moved very well.

3 Fayken Striptease JW, Smith & Green, Mr N & Mr R. 5Yrs, Bl/White. Pretty, prick eared girl, giving an alert expression, but she has a rounder eye than I prefer. Overall excellent construction, and in good condition, well presented and alert to handler. Good feet, straight front, and correct angles both ends, she needed the bigger ring to show her movement to the best advantage.

Veteran Bitch (4)

1 Dalguise Forever Special, Rettie & Alcorn, Miss K & Mrs P. Rising 9Yrs, B&W. Outstanding bitch of the day, she is “Forever Special”. Correct head and lovely expression, beautifully presented, in great condition, standing four square, and a joy to go over. Very good front, feet, front and hind angulation. Level topline held on the move, when she impressed me so much, simply flowing around the ring, totally belying her age and showing the youngsters how it should be done. She repeated this in the challenge, and could not be denied the CC. So pleased to learn that this was her crowning CC, (subject to KC confirmation.)

2. Moshanta Midnight Star Over Collherd VW, Mr D & Mrs ML Collier. 11Yrs, B&W. Excellent for her age, and beautifully attentive to handler, with sweet expression. She has a lovely head and neck, good straight front, firm level topline and good slope of croup. She still moves well, but not with quite the entension of her youth.

3 Chikaramor Born This Way, Morley & Rogerson, Mrs SA & Mrs A. 8Yrs, Black Tri, love her colour and her lovely dark eye, in her pretty, feminine head. Good neck and layback of shoulder, good topline and slope of croup, leading down to her well set, correct tail. Lovely movement and enthusiasm.
