Breed: Belgian Shepherd Dog (Tervueren)

A wonderfully organised and laid out show, my congratulations to the Committee and their helpers; I thoroughly enjoyed judging very beautiful BSDs and am grateful to all exhibitors entered. I was very impressed with temperaments, especially in the youngsters with little or no opportunity to experience a dog show environment before now. Males in particular made for tough decisions as breed type and quality was evident in abundance.

MPD, PD & JD: No entries

YD (2,1): 1st Brown & Godfrey’s SEZANNE MAVERICK, stunning young grey/fawn male of beautiful breed type. Long, dry head, beautifully chiselled, flat skull, straight muzzle only slightest drop at leather, good underjaw; excellent dark almond eyes obliquely set with wonderful expression and beautiful mask; medium triangular ears high set and used expressively, wide split mouth with dark pigment. Elegant reach and crest of neck, proud head carriage, distinct wither flowing on to compact top line, slightly sloping croup, enough chest for age and elegant tuck-up. Stands four square, straight limbs and proportionate bone, moves a touch loose coming, very good rear, light free and brisk movement from side, holding topline well and presenting classic outline; excellent temperament and showmanship for one so young; delighted to award him CC & BOB

GD (1,0): 1st Hodgson’s DOMBURG VERSTAPPEN CAN FOR DDALRUS, tall young male of lovely breed type, slightly rangy at present, displaying lots of early promise; long, lean one piece head, chiselling still developing; dark eye excellent for set and shape giving very typical expression, small high set ears used well, dark pigment, good split and under jaw; nicely arched neck which could be a touch longer, flowing onto good withers and topline, a little long in croup. Stands four square on correct, oval bone; a shade steep upper arm, moderate in rear, rather high stepping on the move today; excellent character

PGD (1,0): 1st McNamara & Gardiner’s KEHALA COLOUR OF MONEY, another young male of lovely breed type; very attractive lean dry head of good length, flat skull, good strength of under jaw, excellent ear set, size, shape, typical expression from dark almond eyes obliquely set. Nice flow from neck onto good withers and topline, chest to develop further, proportionate bone and good stance. Lacking a little in coat but what he had was of good texture; I’m sure he will tighten up on the move when he bodies up, needs time but all the basics are there, super temperament

LD (3,0): 1st S & L Church’s INVANSE OH THE HYPOCRISY, another stunning young male; beautiful head of good length, balanced skull and muzzle, nicely chiselled, lovely parallel planes, with correct strength of under jaw, good mask. Excellent ear set, size and shape, beautiful dark almond eyes set obliquely giving a melting expression. Harmonious outline from his elegantly arched neck onto pronounced withers and level top line. Chest still developing, nice underline, proportionate bone on straight limbs standing four square; moderate and balanced angulation fore and aft although a bit lively on the move down and back, quickly settled into typical side gait, alert and showing throughout with lovely temperament; pleased to award him the RCC

2nd Sutton’s NIAVANA NASHVILLE beautiful grey/fawn male, head is of good length, nicely chiselled muzzle, a little flared and deep in back skull, excellent eye shape and set giving truly melting expression, wide split mouth, good strength of underjaw; nicely arched neck, ok withers, a little long in loin; good bone and substance although carrying a shade too much weight and profuse coat which together detracted from outline. On the move set off wide front and rear, settled into good enough side gait, sweet nature, another typical male

3rd Monk’s BERGEAU FOREVER STARLIGHT

OD (1,0) 1st Fletcher, Finnegan & Church’s CH INVANSE RED HOT ShCM, of slightly different stamp but with an outline which epitomises classic BSD; head is of sufficient length, flat skull, equal length muzzle, slightly dished foreface, well chiselled with lively expression, high set ears used constantly; neck nicely arched although could be longer, flowing harmoniously onto pronounced withers, short firm top line and slightly sloping croup; developed forechest, moderate balanced angulation, nice tuck-up, would prefer a touch more bone however stands four square on parallel limbs, super character and showmanship, quality coat of good texture with thick ruff

VD (2,1)  1st Hermann & Mack’s PLIQUETTE BLUE MOON, good length of head a shade strong through, good parallel planes, enough chiselling, very dark high set mask, well set and shaped eyes of medium brown, good split of mouth and strength of underjaw, tall ears which he was a little reluctant to use; arched neck, withers ok, rather long in back, nice croup, tail is well set although could be longer; good lay of shoulder and return of upper arm, good rear, feeling the heat hence a little sluggish on the move; good coat colour of correct texture, sweet temperament

SP BEG DOG (0,0)

MPB (1,0):  1st Rowe’s DOMBURG NEW RUMER AT GRACIEUX, petite rich red baby looking barely of age yet behaving like a well-seasoned professional; medium head, parallels slightly off but time to develop, lively enquiring expression, good ear-set although a touch tall, slightly tubular look for now, loose puppy movement, very raw but attentive and confident happy temperament

PB (2):  1st Cerchiai’s INVANSE TICKET FOR SALE, feminine fawn girl, head of good length, nicely chiselled, beautiful eye shape, colour and set, small ears, nicely arched neck, top-line to firm, shade long cast, good croup and tail, rather straight in front, better at rear, high stepping on the move, quality coat texture, lovely character BPB, BPIB

2nd Rowe’s Domburg New Rumer at Gracieux

JB (2,0):  1st Cave’s ELYSION SHE’S A CARNIVAL, good length of head, slight roman nose, small high set ears, mask a little low and broken, neck could be longer, good top and underline for age; stands four square, would like a touch more substance which should develop, weaving slightly on the move, lots of growing up to do, nice temperament

2nd Dowell’s HAWKSFLIGHT IN IT TO WIN IT, long head, muzzle slightly pinched and underjaw needs to strengthen, good length of neck, withers could be more distinct, a little long cast, needs more bone, very raw as yet; movement erratic and difficult to assess, coat of good texture, sweet nature

YB (2,1)

1st Dowell’s Hawksflight In it to Win it

GB (2,1):  1st Bycroft’s NIAVANA ODYSSEY, pretty medium length head, good parallels, ears rather wide at base and could be higher set; withers to develop, would like more square overall; a little open angulation in front with steep upper arm, better at rear; good coat for colour and texture, good stance, moves rather wide behind, ok side gait, nice temperament

PGB (3,1):  1st Fletcher, Finnigan & Church’s INVANSE REWRITE THE STARS, immature girl, head is ok for length, slightly dished foreface, lovely eye shape and set would prefer darker, good split and dark pigment; back a little long and rising over loin, good croup and tail-set; slightly steep in front restricting stride, ok rear, parallel limbs, good stance and temperament

2nd Cerchiai’s KEHALA DÉJÀ VU, many of above comments apply to this girl too, needs time, sweet character

LB (2,1):  1st Church’s CORSINI MAKE A WISH FOR INVANSE, grey with high set mask; head is of good length, flat skull, slight drop in muzzle, shade wide and deep in back skull, well set dark eyes slightly round making expression a little hard, good ears used well; nice reach and crest to neck onto distinct withers, firm top-line, moderate angulation fore and aft, erratic on the move all ways; initially overwhelmed by proceedings

OB (3,0):  1st Fletcher, Finnigan & Church’s INVANSE SWEET DREAMS JW, mature well-proportioned bitch of pleasing type, head is of very good length, skull flat, muzzle and underjaw nicely balanced, high set ears used constantly, alert and lively expression from well-shaped and positioned dark eyes; harmonious flow from elegant reach and crest of neck to distinct withers, good croup and set of tail, would like in harder condition however she moved well all ways, correct texture to coat, super character and didn’t stop showing throughout, deserving of CC

2nd Brown & Godfrey’s SEZANNE FLEUR DE CRISTAL, medium size very feminine bitch, lovely type, not terribly interested today about the job in hand; pretty head of good length, good parallels and mask, beautiful dark obliquely set eyes, nice ear shape and size but reluctant to use, would like a little more reach to her arched neck, body shape somewhat disguised in a profuse coat, stands four square on straight limbs, balanced angles front and rear; light free movement although a shade close going away, confident sweet temperament, RCC
