HOUNDS - OD (3) Quality class to start with. 1 Leech’s Ch/Ir Ch Gavelkind Conquistador by Jamchala, handsome Basset Fauve with plenty of style and presence, masculine head and certainly has a lively expression, correct fold to ears, good flow of neck into shoulders and a perfect topline, well ribbed back, muscular well angulated hindquarters, harsh well presented coat. Moved well in front, a shade close at the rear but really looked the part going round with a powerful easy stride. BNSC; 2 Lewis’ Olphae Charmer**, quality Otterhound, handsome head with good eye and expression, nicely folded ears, clean neck and shoulders, shade steep in upper arm and turns front feet a little, super body, coat and tail, well ribbed, powerful hindquarters with plenty of drive. Perhaps could have a little more reach in front but made a good overall picture. RBD; 3. Woodgate, Boggia and De-Souza’s Sloughi Xandu Khan Schuru Esch Schams.
PB (1) 1 Cooper’s Jayanel Peppermint Patty, very attractive 8 months GBGV with plenty of scope for the future, very typical head and expression, super bone, already has good depth of chest, plenty of neck into well laid shoulders, matching hind angles, moved true, naturally a touch babyish on the go-round but liked her a lot. BB, BP. JB (1) 1 Lewis’ Olphae Orlaith, another nice Otterhound with the same dam, feminine head, correct eye shape, OK ears, reasonable neck, good bone, running and topline, could have a shade more angulation, settled to move true coming and going but rather bouncy going round as yet. Well presented. RBB. PGB (1) 1 Panayiotis’ Ynchreenoo Gold Edition, feminine Pharaoh, nicely chiselled head, oval amber eye, well carried ears, straight front, good bone and feet, well bodied, topline slopes a shade too much, active mover with a little more drive than reach, true behind but front action could be firmer.
WORKING - PD (1) 1 Streater's Xonova Beowolf, good looking 11 month Groenendael, a touch wary at first as the variety can be, but settled enough. Admired his head, eye and expression with well placed and shaped ears, enough next, OK topline, front can firm up a little, well balanced, strong hindquarters, moved well behind, tended to pick up his front feet a little on the move. Maturity should make all the difference. RBD. OD (1) 1 Shrieves’ Winarose Wanderin Star, handsome Catalan, good head proportions, round eyes, clean neck and shoulder, good forechest and ribbing, elbows well under body, straight forearms, lengthy ribbing, good hindquarters with correct dewclaws, tail carried well, sound steady mover with a balanced stride, in hard condition. BD.
PB (1) 1 Harrell’s Beaukita’s McCrory Park, very promising Beauceron baby, just 6 months, a shade unsettled at first but gradually realised what it’s all about and ended up being shortlisted by Gordon Haran in the puppy group. Her head type, strong bone, smooth well laid shoulders all appealed and she has the promise of plenty of substance and free movement. BP. PGB (1) 1 Peacock’s Saraneth Edgedancer, shapely tri Smooth Collie, refined feminine head, good eye shape, liked her bone and feet, clean neck and shoulder, smooth side gait, could be slightly firmer coming and going. Not in best coat. OB (5) 1 Mottram’s Ch Mybeards Hera, what a beautiful Polish Lowland, super head balance, correct eyes and ears, enough neck, superb topline, deep brisket, carrying just the right amount of body, superbly trained and presented, looked a picture on the move, absolutely true both ways, free and flowing from the side while still holding her shape. Last time I did these classes my winner was her sire Ch Hero and the apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree! BNSC, went on to G3 under Lynne Salt; 2 Pletz-Kazantsis’ Ch Foxearth Fandella, Smooth Collie of obvious quality, admired her one-piece head and super eyes, flowing line from neck through the shoulders into an excellent topline, firm straight front and matching hindquarters, good depth and length of ribbing, stylish sound mover, Gave the winner a very good run for her money. RBB; 3 Harrell’s Beauceron Pebbleenas Millie Murphy.
WORKING - PD (2) 1 Godfrey’s Infury Wolfey, shapely 7 months Greenland baby, quality head, obliquely set eye, well boned, good feet though pasterns can firm up a bit as you’d expect at this age, OK neck, promise of a good coat, strong hindquarters, when he settled showed a free side gait; 2 Parkin-Russell’s Spaclere Timex Tiny Tim, another appealing baby, a 7 months Great Swiss Mountain Dog, super head, well marked, clear neck and shoulder, plenty of bonet, as with winner pasterns will no doubt tighten with age, good ribbing and topline, at this stage of development the winner scored in hindquarters. JD (1) 1 Lambert and Eastham’s Bouvpilot Skyjack, most impressive 11 months Bouvier, strong masculine head, good skull to muzzle proportions, dark well placed eye, strong neck with slight arch, firm level topline, plenty of substance matching angulations and a firm short back, presented to emphasise his good qualities, sound steady movement. RBD, BP and won the puppy group under Gordon Haran. Surely an exciting future. OD (3) 1 Mafi’s Tommaso Goffredo’s Taro - well I must be honest and say that while we are supposed to like all breeds equally, I’ll freely admit that the Neapolitan Mastiff hasn’t always been one of my favourites. But this boy was a bit of a revelation to me, with his impressively strong head, an unexaggerated degree of (clean) wrinkle far from the monstrosities sometimes seen in the past, clean eye without horrible haw, superb bone, practical feet, elbows as per Standard but functional too, shapely well knit body and powerful hindquarters with which he moved quite remarkably true behind as well as in typical fashion from the side, plus immaculate skin and body condition. Was my choice amid strong competition to be BNSC. One might think that this is beyond doubt the direction in which breeders should be taking the breed, and that we should all applaud them for the progress made. Disappointingly the show vet opted to take a different view today but I’m sure Taro will quickly bounce back from what I hope will be a temporary blip; 2 Blaney’s Suna-Sanik’s Electric Noah of Fenrirking, classy Greenland with so much to like, admired the head, eye and expression, clean neck and shoulder, straight front, excellent topline and hindquarters, free active mover, could be a shade truer in front action but put up a strong challenge to the winner and to the young Bouvier; 3 Foakes’ Hovawart Kanukalos Rhapsody.
PB (2) 1 Blaney’s Fenrirkin Can’t Be Late, most attractive 9 months Greenland with plenty of scope for the future, feminine head, sensible length of neck, true front with excellent feet, balanced unexaggerated angulation, what coat she had was of the correct texture - must be frustrating for the owners of the Arctic breeds that they are most likely to be in coat hat the time when there aren’t so many shows! Free active mover with good tail carriage. Although obviously far less mature she was by no means outclassed by the Bouvier when challenging for BP; 2 Byrne’s Xorkani’s Anesi, real baby 6 months feminine Canadian Eskimo, typical head, good eye, well furred ears, correct angles, moved true, naturally needs to settle on the go-round but has lots of promise and I look forward to seeing how she develops. JB (1) McClure’s Hightimbers Ticket To Dream at Kanukalos, elegant feminine Hovawart, loved her clean outline with a slightly arched neck, super top and underlines and good unexaggerated hindquarters, enough bone, turns front feet a shade, moved well behind, smooth side gait but it might help if she could be persuaded not to keep looking up at her handler which slightly disrupts the flow. OB (3) 1 Lambert and Eastham’s Bon Idee’s She’s Lookin’ at Bouvpilot, excellent Bouvier, stood four square and held herself together well on the move, strong but feminine head, plenty of bone and substance, well laid shoulder, good forechest, firm topline, moved soundly with determination. BB; 2 Byrne’s Ir/Dutch Ch Harpan Charlotte Bay, i also very much liked this beautifully balanced Canadian Eskimo, super expression, good well set eyes and forward facing well furred ears, enough neck carried well on good shoulders, matching angulation, well ribbed, in excellent condition and well presented. Perhaps could be a shade firmer in pasterns but close up here. RBB; 3 Blaney’s Greenland Suna-Sanik’s Freidige Alice av Fenrirkin, dam of the lovely pup.
TERRIERS - OD (3) Enjoyed this class with three lovely dogs. 1 BB, Birch’s Ch Perrisblu Razor Sharp, such a handsome Kerry Blue in peak form today, in super coat which feels right to the touch and is a lovely even colour, masculine head, powerful muzzle, well placed eyes and ears giving the gamest of expressions, neck flows into super topline and tailset, true front, well bodied up, handler moves him at the perfect pace to show off his most impressive gait which took him to BNSC, went on to G2 under Alan Small; 2 Schoneberg’s Ch Paperman Terra Wortmann, I fell for this classy Lakeland with his super head, typically placed ears, keen expression, clean neck, super topline and tail set, well angulated hindquarters, in great form and immaculate coat condition. Perhaps winner had the slight edge on front action but it was a close decision. RBD; 3 Whincup’s Skye Partisky Precious Moment.
PB (1) 1 Bentley’s Blackdale Madam Dancer of Newguild, pretty feminine 7 months Wire, real baby, lean head, good eyes and ears, reachy neck, well made hindquarters. Needs plenty of time to body up and to tighten in front and feet. BP. YB (1) 1 Pullen’s Razorsedge Are You Ready, classy typy brindle Bull Terrier, excellent head, filled and turned with a wicked expression, plenty of substance yet still feminine, flowing lines, strode out well, could have a shade more front angulation and went rather close behind but liked her and her sister a lot. OB (3) 1 Hume’s Danchester’s Could This Be Magic, I was rather taken by this very feminine Dandie, loved her expression with irresistible eyes, super coat texture, excellent front construction, bone in proportion, defined but unexaggerated topline and well angulated hindquarters. Moved absolutely true, good profile action retaining her shape but her rather laid back attitude on the move allowed the Kerry to storm ahead in the challenge. BB; 2 Spry’s Saredon Shante You Stay at Celmareva, such a feminine Scottie, plenty of substance for her size, head in proportion, super eyes and ears, clean shoulders and typical front, in excellent coat condition. Winner scored on topline. RBB; 3 Marshallsay’s Bull Terrier Razorsedge Walk This Way with Fergustaff.
GUNDOGS - Two Irish Water Spaniels. PB (1) 1 Stirk’s Stanegate Hey It’s Bianca, lovely 7 months baby, excellent head and eye, enough neck, straight front, shapely body, good coat texture, had her moments which she displayed the promise of a free, active gait. Naturally needs to settle a bit but when she does could well move ahead of her kennelmate. RBB, BP. OB (1) 1 Stirk’s Pharises Keep A Secret for Grakar, free moving well balanced bitch with a smart outline, feminine head which perhaps could be a shade stronger in muzzle, good neck, well presented coat, true front, well boned, OK hindquarters, typical cheerful temperament, a shade upright in shoulder. BNSC today but had she been more settled the pup might have turned the tables.
TOYS - PD (3) 1 Morley’s Lizlanmor Mr Mercury, charming 9 months Pekingese of a lovely size, compact and well balanced, admired his head and well spaced features, dark eyes and flat skull, level back, super spring of rib, sound front with legs the right distance apart, picks up well, typical mover. BP; 2 Forth’s Omegaville Strike A Pose, quality 7 months Maltese, loved his head, eyes and expression, sound front, the right size combined with cobby build, looked good on the move. Marginally less firm in topline than winner at this stage but equally promising; 3 Yeates’ Pekingese Pennsara Snow Bear at Merryanna. PGD (1) 1 Holland’s Benatone Perfect Gold, another quality Maltese with a masculine head, excellent eyes, super topline, well made hindquarters, looked the part going round. Perhaps could be a shade more compact but much to admire. OD (3) 1 Jackson & Wylie’s Benatone Jumping Jack Flash, top class Maltese, beautifully balanced, loved his head and expression, super topline both standing and moving, shapely body, quality coat immaculately presented. BD and close up to BNSC; 2 Morley’s Lizlanmor Gentleman Jim, handsome Pekingese, typy boy with excellent body shape and backline, well carried tail, wide skull, dark eyes, typical mover. Face can still finish a bit more; 3 Hillyer’s Lowchen Brokus Double Or Nothing at Glonido.
PB (1) 1 Proctor and McGowan’s Golbourne Creme De La Creme avec Tramarllan, delightful 6 months Lowchen, such a pretty well proportioned head, dark eyes, well balanced and sound all through for such a baby, level topline, good tail carriage, full of promise. JB (1) 1 Paradise’s Shardlow Lulu Guinness, black who will take time coat-wise but picks up like lead, liked her head type with good width and dark eyes, firm elbows, shapely body, good backline, could make more of herself on the move. PGB (2) 1 Oliver’s Sarasuma Penny Lane, pretty Maltese, feminine head, enough neck, stands true in front, level topline, well ribbed, moved smartly, could have a shade more reach in front, RBB; 2 Hillyer’s Brokus Shine of Glonido, pretty Lowchen, OK head proportions, the right amount of bone, compact body, well made hindquarters, moved well behind, rather erratic in front action. OB (1) 1 Quick’s Jameneli Symphony, fell for this super Lowchen, gorgeous head and expression, loved the way she looked at me, beautifully made, straight front, well laid shoulder into an ideal topline, strong well angulated hindquarters, well ribbed, made the most of herself on the move, true both ways and with some style going round. BNSC.
UTILITY - PD (2) 1 Lampen and Wilson’s Elizar Djalo with Rosco, this Chow is only just six months but already a very collected performer, masculine head with well set ears, clean eyes and good pigment, plenty of bone, enough length of leg, compact, well set tail, level topline, moved true in good Chow style, will watch his progress. BP, RBD; 2 Lascenko’s Vatarou Go Minami Rinkan, very raw 7 months brindle Akita Inu, masculine head, straight front. Needs plenty of practice plus carefully controlled exercise to develop his hindquarters. JD (3) 1 Bennett and Thompson’s Seijitsu Amafumi Go Tsoyu, good looking Akita Inu, just out of puppy but well grown and makes an impressive picture, loved his ears, eyes and expression, sufficient neck, super topline and tail, shapely body, well bone, moved out well and soundly too. With full maturity will surely do very well. BD; 2 Wright’s Toshiro Mifune Surabashii, well grown Shiba, somewhat different balance to those I’m used to seeing, not so chunky. Well made dog and a free mover. Not in coat today and preferred expression of winner; 3 Vatarou GMR. YD (1) 1 TM Surabashii. PGD (3) 1 Davies’ Millhanger Kemboy, eye-catching Kooikerhondje, liked his head proportions, good eyes, ears and fringes, OK body and bone, free active mover with good tail carriage. Close up in the challenge; 2 TM Subarashii; 3 Bond and Woodmansey’s Chow Legend of Lion Heart Ayres at Hondal.
PGB (1) 1 Johnson’s Valleyrise Illustration, lovely quality Kooikerhondje, super head, well fringed ears, appealing dark eyes, excellent neck and shoulders, true front with good feet, super topline held on the move, well carried tail, balanced angulation, free, brisk mover, clearly enjoys being in the ring. BNSC. O (2) 1 Bennett’s Tsoyu Murasaki Go Seijitsu, another excellent Akita Inu, dam of the BD and very much the same style and balance, good head, eyes and ears contributing to the characteristic expression, the right amount of neck, shapely body with good limbs. Good topline standing but didn’t retain it on the move quite as well as the Kookerhondje in the challenge. RBB; 2 Johnson’s Sensation vom Tespelkooi of Valleyrise, like the winner she has proved herself as a brood as her daughter was the BNSC. Pretty and feminine, classy head similar to her daughter but not quite the fringing, straight front, good bone, well ribbed, OK mover. Topline not as strong as her daughter’s.
