Leeds Championship Dog Show 24th July 2021 – Lancashire Heeler – Judge Richard Morris (Lascoed)

A small entry but all worthy breed specimens, several with soft coats preventing higher placings. Thank you all for your support it was much appreciated as was the assistance of my stewards.

1. Bancroft - Leyeside Mister Freddie

A sturdy well built B/Tan 12 month old dog with a delightful happy temperament. Attractive breed expression with lovely dark eyes, eye rims well shaped. Well proportioned length of muzzle to skull pleasing stop, good bone and small, firm feet. Shoulders well set, top-line held level kept firm standing and moving. Smart and brisk on the move with excellent set of tail carriage, a promising youngster.

1. Thwaite - Ribblespride Crakemoor

A quality B/Tan dog rising 20 months of age, very well proportioned overall with typical breed outline. Tan slightly pale but with some thumb marks present. A well-balanced typical breed head and expression, lovely eye colour, eye rim shape and set well apart. Well angulated in front, sturdy bone and good feet with an excellent firm, level top-line held well on the move. Flat, close coat of correct texture, tail well set and carried. Good depth of body to length of leg, moved very soundly, thick tail but curled somewhat fully over. Reserve CC, congratulations.

1. Fairest - Ch Henson Fairest Lad

A mature five and three quarters year old B/Tan quality dog with a well-balanced head, though I considered his erect ears slightly large. Particularly sound in rear action and moved well in front with a brisk, confident and natural style. Lovely dark rich tan on show with thumb marks on front legs and definite pencilling on the feet. Good length of rib cage, ribs well sprung, slightly deep in body but firm top line, short coupled. Well bent stifles with pleasing tail set and carriage on the move, driven by well-muscled hindquarters with super strength of second thighs. Coat texture harsh, top coat flat and close with undercoat present. Presented in excellent body condition and a very worthy dog CC and BOB.

1. Webster - Brockbrae September Dawn

B/Tan rising three years of age, pleasing head and expression, attractive dark eye colour with rims well shaped, good spring of ribcage. Presented with the best coat in the class, thick and close top coat of hard texture with super fine undercoat throughout. A brisk mover, sound in front though appeared slightly close behind on the day. Tail well set and carried might carry less weight to her advantage in my opinion.

2. Thwaite - Ribblespride Ladytron

A four year old B/Tan with pleasing head proportions and bright alert expression, eyes of good shape, size and well set. Level firm top-line, good depth of body and level underline, tail well set showing a happy carriage on the move. A sound mover but not the presenting with the undercoat of the winner on the day and tan slightly paler.

3. Swann - Swanndale Day Lily

Two year old B/Tan would prefer to see darker tan, eyes darkly coloured, presented in lovely body condition for her age, well pigmentated throughout, good bone and neat feet with thumb marks present on fore-legs. Skull of good width with ears well set, moderate length of neck set into well placed shoulders. Top-line could have been better and I considered her a little short in the rib cage and hence appeared long in the couplings.

1. Bancroft - Leyeside Miss Molly

Rising four years of age with lovely dark tan. Head well proportioned but would prefer a little more strength and finish overall. Pleasing dark eye, good pigmentation and some thumb marks present, typical pencilling on the feet. Excellent level, firm top-line, well sprung rib cage of good length, stifles well turned. Strong mature hind quarters with a tail well set, well carried on the move.

2. Fairest - Axa's Warrior Of Moira

A three year old B/Tan with lovely dark tan on show presented in excellent body condition. Typical breed outline and well proportioned throughout. Steady on the move but not so animated as the winner. Clear thumb marks on show with attractive dark pencilling on feet, would like to see a little more length in ribbing.

1. Howdle - Utthanshavan Darlin Dear

A small sturdy bitch of lovely breed type with excellent dark tan, rising five years of age constructed to correct outline and proportions. Head in balance with body, most attractive alert expression with dark eye colour, almond shaped eye rims set well apart. Good spring of rib cage, well ribbed extending back, short in the couplings. Moved soundly, confidently with natural free movement presenting as the most typical bitch in the class with some undercoat on show and well textured top coat. Awarded bitch CC, I understand it to be her third so many congratulations.

2. Swann - Taigwynion the Special One at Swanndale

A four and half year old mature bitch sturdy and well built with an attractive breed outline, good bone and small, firm feet. Medium sized eyes of dark colour set wide apart with eye rims of correct shape. Coat presentation acceptable though tan somewhat fading with age. Solid, true front and standing well up on the leg, sound true mover behind demonstrating brisk free moving action. Reserve CC, congratulations.

3. Webster - Brockbrae Bonny in Black

A four year old bitch on the smaller end of the scale would prefer slightly less weight on show on the day. Super rich dark tan throughout, head well proportioned, dark eye colour with almond shaped eye rims, good bone and neat feet. The best coat in the class with short thick flat top coat and fine thick undercoat, tail well set and carried on the move which appeared somewhat close at the rear on the day.
