GOLDEN RETRIEVER CLUB OF NORTHUMBRIA CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW  SUNDAY 17 OCTOBER 2021

JUDGE:  PAULA HILL – SANDAULA

First of all, I must thank and congratulate the small committee of the club, for very successful and well organised show and it was in deed an honour and privilege to judge such a high quality entry.    The quality of the bitches on the whole were in very good hard condition, however I was surprised to see a number of lighter eyes in some classes and also there were numerous exhibits where the foot were hare like and there were many that could do with having their nails trimmed as part of the preparation for the show ring.

Veteran Bitch (18-6abs)  What a class to start the day off with, to say I needed more red cards was an understatement.

1st Mandley's MALTQUDOS MISS MASH this blonde bitch of nearly 12 years of age, really doesn't look or move as her age suggests. A solid balanced girl who stood four-square and has a pleasing outline, she has a gentle kind expression, good length to her neck which flowed into good shoulder placement, she has neat tight feet, with straight forelegs and elbows close fitting to her body, short coupled with a gentle bend of stifle, her tail flowed straight of her dead level topline which she held standing and whilst in the move. She carries just the correct amount of weight and is in very good condition which showed as she moved at a steady pace around the ring. She won this excellent class on her positive movement. BVB

2nd Crookes/Jenkinson's STANROPH STILL THE SAME JW (IMP ESP) 8 year old mid gold bitch who was slightly longer cast than winner, she has a beautiful feminine head with good pigment, clean muscular neck, excels in upper arm and very good shoulder placement, another in this class who has a strong topline which she holds standing and on move, she has a dense coat of good quality, very god bend of stifle with second thigh, shown in hard condition, as she moved around the ring she looked a picture but just didn't have the extension of the winner today.

3rd Hill's MEGARVEY MALIBOO JW 7 year old mid gold bitch who is heavier set than previous 2, she is another whose shape has good balance, strong head without being over done, excellent forehand construction , deep through ribs, level topline, she moved with drive and purpose as she is in hard condition.

Minor Puppy Bitch (10-1 abs)  1st Loach's PUTJADE PLASTIC FANTASTIC as I looked around the ring, she caught my eye for her beautiful feminine balanced outline for the age, smaller baby who I shall watch with great interest, she has the prettiest of heads with excellent pigment, very balanced with lovely ear set, I liked her length of neck which flowed into very good shoulder placement, she has good length to her upper arm, her forelegs are dead straight and neat cat like feet. I wouldn't want her any heavier. Short coupled with a body f good depth, lovely bend of stifle with good width of thigh, she was a little unsure of herself on the move but she settled enough and her confidence grew when it was her time by her self, I would prefer a more positive tail carriage on the move but she could not be denied this class. Delighted that my Co Judge agreed with her going BEST PUPPY IN SHOW.

2nd HILL'S MEGARVEY CLEMENTINE a larger framed bitch, standing she commends your attention with her overall balance, she has good length of leg to body ration, excellent forehand with good length of upper arm, she is deep in body for her age, level topline but today on the move, I felt was raising over her lion and she flew her tail, in her next class she was more settled and moved more steadily, presented to perfection.

3rd MCCRONE DRUMKILTY URSULA my notes say, get passed the inexperience of the handler and there is a very promising puppy in front of me. She is so balanced and places herself well, standing four square, she has a stronger head than the other 2 but is still pleasing, I liked her layback of shoulders and good return of upper arm, neat tight feet, whilst standing she appears to loose her topline but on the move, she holds it well and moved very well with good ground coverage. I wish you both well for the future.

Puppy Bitch (15-5 abs)  1st HILL'S MEGARVEY CLEMENTINE

2nd HUDSON'S GOLD TOTEM MA BELLE TAF compact mid gold bitch who appeals for her overall balance, shown in good hard condition, she has a short dense coat of good texture, I felt her handler tended to overstretch her, which makes her appear upright in shoulders, short coupled, lovely bend of stifle with good second thigh for age. When she places her self she drops into her angles and looks better, she has a good topline and tail carriage on the move, she has good rear driving action but was not as neat in the front as winner.

3rd BARRON/JENKINS RANNALEROCH HIGHLAND LIT smaller compact bitch, she has a really dense coat which is of good quality, very balanced outline, her neck length is OK, she has a good layback of shoulders, good length of upper arm, close fitting elbows, short coupled, dead level topline standing and carried level with her back when she moved, she is in good condition.

3rd CRUTWELL'S ASHBYGLEN THE DUCHESS completed my trio of 3 lovely bitches, similar remarks apply as they all have similar tributes, she is more balanced than the other 2 but didn't have the same extension on the move, she has a very good topline and tailset, shown in good hard condition and another with good second thigh, when she moved, she moved at one with her young handler.

Open Bitch (5-2 abs)

1st LEWIS' SH CH LOVEHAYNE BIJOU AMONG FAIRWINDS JW Its nice to finally be able to have hands on this young bitch, having watched her grow up, today she pulled out all the stops to ensure she reached top honours under me. Slighter longer but everything else is just what you would expect of a bitch of this quality. She just flows from her tip of her nose to her tail, she has the best of front with good length of upper arm and excellent layback of shoulders, she is very feminine in the head, kind and soft expression but she has a glint in her eyes , deep through chest and carrying the correct amount of weight, her hindquarters are just as impressive as her forehand, she has a lovely bend of stifle and good width of thigh with very good second thigh, when she moved today she covered the ground with ease with such precision footfall as she used her well muscled rear to drive away from me, presented and handled to perfection. I was delighted to award her the CC and of course very honoured to see her take BEST IN SHOW under referee, Joan Maddison.
