Borzoi Club

Breed: Borzoi

Great to be back to my roots amongst the Borzois,a lovely day with great hospitality from both the Club Officers and Committee but also Birmingham National for their welcome and hospitality. Thanks to my extremely efficient steward who kept things moving beautifully.

Interesting that the influence of imports has had to the Breed and that I found my main winners from Russian or out of Russian imports and a Czech import. When I judged in Moscow a few years ago, I was impressed by the depth and quality of Breed type and saw this certainly in these winners. One of the most striking things about the Breed is the quality in the head and this has to be preserved.

VD(1,0)

1.Harvey & Jonsson’s SE.Nor.Fi,& Int.Ch.Lynx Ray of Sunshine (IMP)Tall, upstanding male, lovey head type with good balance and under jaw.Correct eyeshape and clean skull.Long reach of neck with good shoulder layback.Just losing his topline slightly but well developed body and gentle arch to topline.Sound hindquarters, free light movement.BVIS.

MPD(1,0)

1.Allen’s Lynx Life of Brian With Auraura,Masculine headed with veining just starting to develop.Good length of backskull.Well set neck into well placed shoulders.Needs to settle in front on the move but has a strongly made front.Well bodied with correct spring.Nicely arched over loin, moved with good width to hindquarters.

PD(3,0)

1.Wilenczyc’s Nibrass Celestial Lotus At Kashiba,Strongest mover in the class. Not my type of head but has good length and fine, neat ears.Strong neck, needs to settle in front.Good bladed bone.Well ribbed back.Well muscled loin, good width to hindquarters.

2.White’s Mischran Malachi,Different type and stronger in head.Well set neck and lovely in profile on the move but tightened in body when standing which spoilt his outline and hindquarters.

3.Lyden’s Eiranci Sterling Silver.

JD(2,0)

1.Smith’s Donskoi Groza,Typy head with veining, well shaped eye.Correct bladed bone, needs to fill out in spring of rib but holds a nicely arched topline into fallaway.Moved positively with good width.

2.Umfreville’s Barnesmore Betelgeuse, different head type stronger in backskull and a little round in eyeshape.Would benefit overall in more leg length to balance his body as he is slightly overangulated for his height.Disappointing as he is overall strong in body and nicely shaped and moved well.

YD(4,1)

1.Odell’s Sukeshi Dazzling Dan,generally balanced and very good overall shape.Would like a shade more masculinity, balanced head type with neat ears.Neck set into well laid shoulders.Nice arch over loin into balanced hindquarters with low hocks.Good depth and shape of body which he holds on the move.Very collected and sound.

2.Barnesmore Betelgeuse.

3.Donelly’s Serenfol Brutus.

GD(4,1)

1.Geddes’ Cavallierik Fraer At Ingledene,Well shaped male, stood over the ground well. Balanced head with slight veining, well muscled neck.A little upright in front but in profile movement had more forward reach than 2.Well defined body nicely arched over loin sweeping into hindquarters.Low hocks.

2.Baker’s Mischran Shawnee,Long head, eyeset could be more oblique.Gives the impression of being a bit square in outline but has balanced hindquarters.Would prefer more spring of rib and depth of brisket.Good bone substance.Moved positively.

3.Bridges’ Jansams The Show Must Go On.

PGD(7,1)

1.Ridge-Reeves’ Sukeshi Nureyev,Shapely male of good size. Comes into his own on the move showing flow and good forward reach.Clean head with good expression, strongly built front with good bone structure and correct feet.Would like a shade more angulation to hock but a sound mover.

2.Cavallierik Fraer At Ingledene.

3.Chalk & Vorrias’Chalksville Egor.

MLD(3,1W)

1.Harvey & Jonsson’s Lynx Gogibus Pearl (IMP)Impressive male with clean, long head which is a little narrow for my taste but he has the expression and depth of chin.Long reach of neck well let into front.Could have a little more spring of pastern but has good quality bone and correct feet.Nicely arched over loin gently into fallaway.Moved with light effortless gait.Pressed hard for Res.CC.

2.Odell’s Sukeshi Baryshnikov, different type of head with good definition between backskull and foreface.Well angulated front with correct type of bone. Not the spring of rib of 1 but moved with good width to hindquarters.

LD(9,0)

1.Foran’s Donskoi Polar (AI) Absolutely loved this male.Masculine headpiece with lovely clean backskull and equally strong foreface, correct width all the way through with work in his head still developing.Sometimes doesn’t have his legs right under him which gives the impression of being straighter in front than he is when going over him.Correct height to depth of body ratio with super ribbing.Nice arch over loin into strong, well muscled hindquarters.Moved with good width to front and a strong powerful rear.At only 19 months old,his best is yet to come. CC.

2.Smetten-Minson’s Donskoi Romeo at Chywoon,Upstanding male in similar mould to 1.Typy head with veining and strength of underjaw.Stands over the ground well, long reach of neck, good shoulder placement still to develop in depth of brisket and fill in of forechest as he probably has another couple of years of maturing still to do.Well sprung rib and width of loin.Strong powerful hindquarters, moved well.Res.CC.

3.Dawson’s Steppdance Pintel At Stubbylee (IMP).

OD(4,1)

1.Wheatley’s Russkiy Azart Ambassador Reality Rondo (IMP) Appealed very much in type and overall shape.Masculine head with good work in his head.Nicely balanced with strong neck.Good body shape and typical coat texture and depth.Unfortunately not as broad through from front to hindquarters as I would like and this is echoed in his movement.

2.Binnie’s Dreamlight Dancing Brave, Totally different type with good overall shape.Again not as broad through which is essential for positive movement.Broad, well muscled neck, good bone quality and feet.Good depth of brisket.Slightly high in hock.

3.Chalk & Vorrias’ Chalksville Eagle Lord.

CH.D(1,0)

1.Kanoo’s Ch.Nibrass Roger Fitzempress,Clean head with neat ears.Good depth to neck.Well shaped topline with correct fallaway.Mature body with good underline.Well set hindquarters with good bend of stifle.Moved with good reach and drive.

1.Kanoo’s Nibrass Queen Ethelflaeda, well collected youngster.Very feminine and shapely, sweet head of good length.Flowing arched body, best mover to and fro.BP.

2.Yardley’s Derzhi Veter Lady Killer, this baby is at such a fragile stage in her development. She has a lovely classic type of head and has done her height growing, now has to fill her frame.Although has the body shape and bone she needs lots of time to come to, but I think with care, she will be worth the wait.

3.Thomas’ Michsran Asherah At Mournebrake.

JB(3,2)

1.Collins’ Cwmcoed Polka,Feminine head with strong underjaw.Long reach of neck, needs to tighten in front and develop in body.Moves with lovely light free action.

PGB(5,0)

1.Lee-Brown’s Danae Majove Bohemia Palamedees(IMP) My notes say ‘right up my street !’ Feminine but with the necessary strength and flow.Classic head, balanced proportions with exquisite eyeshape and expression.Chiselled foreface of good length.Neck correctly set into shoulders.Super bodyshape, strong topline which absolutely flows from nose to tail.Sound mover but a bit unsettled, still pushed CC winner hard, her time will come,Res.CC.

LB(7,2)

1.Dawson’s Metel Avgusta Ala Azul At Stubbylee, rising three and for me a Classic bitch that stood out for type and quality.Balanced, feminine head with clean skull, lovely expression, strong underjaw, neat ears.Correct reach of neck into well shaped body.Still to mature just as it should be,but can’t get away from her flowing outline as she moved round the ring. Pleased to hear this is her crowning CC & BOB.

2.Rogerson’s Donskoi Barastinya, another of lovely shape but of different type of head.Well proportioned with well set neck into shoulders and depth of body.Strong, arched topline with good length of ribbing..Moved with reach and drive but not as broad in hind movement as 1.

3.Codling & Jones’ Jansama Killer Queen.

2.Binnie’s Dreamlight Dawn Run,Useful type of bitch, a bit strong in head.Good substance and shapely body. Not quite as strong in hind movement but strong in profile.
