Puppy Dog (3, 1abs)

1ST Bament, Mrs F C, Pixiesrock Maestro Cadenza: A balanced young dog of 8 months of age, pleasing overall type with excellent head of correct proportions. Needs to deepen in brisket but this will come as he matures. He already has a good spring of rib and has a correct forehand assembly. Dentition correct, clean and complete. Excellent bone all through, moderate bend of stifle. On the move he was accurate in all profiles for one so young with a good open side gait. His coat is of the correct texture and density. My pleasure to award him Best Puppy In Breed.

2ND Thickpenny Ryan, Mr M, Pixiesrock Cogsworth: A very raw young dog of 8 months, litter brother to my class winner. Pleasing head with well paced ears, correct eye. Dentition correct, clean and complete, clean neck into good forehand assembly, moderately angulated hindquarters, neat feet with short nails. On the move he was both sound and accurate – he was less mature than his litter brother, which showed and was one of my deciding factors when placing him in this class.

Junior Dog (1)

1ST Playle, Mr R & Thomas, Mrs S, Riptide Decoy Duck: Very pleasing dog of 14 months of age, of very good type. Very well balanced, not coarse in any way with an excellent head with strong muzzle and underjaw. Correctly set ears. Dentition correct, clean and complete. Well laid shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Good width and breadth of chest, Ribs well sprung and strong loin. Hindquarters well made with moderate bend of stifle. Quality bone all through, Excellent feet with short nails. Moved soundly in all planes.

Post Graduate Dog (4, 2abs)

1ST Duncanson, Mrs K M, Arnac Bay Invincible: A very striking young dog to look at, so very well balanced and unexaggerated. Of excellent type and overall construction – I really did like this dog. Very good head that is broad with correct stop, Correct eye and well placed ears. Muzzle strong and deep with correct, clean and complete dentition, strong clean neck into well muscled forequarters with well placed shoulder and return of upper arm. Elbows tight to chest. Correct spring of rib into short, strong loin. Muscled hindquarters with moderate bend of stifle. Quality bone all through, neat feet with short nails. Coat of good texture. On the move he was accurate in all planes driving from his muscular hindquarters. A promising young dog who just needs time to mature fully.

2ND Rigby, Mr D, Chesepi Ulysses: A male of just over 5 years of age. Pleasing head and expression. Dentition correct, clean and complete. Strong, clean neck into a forehand assembly that is a little short in upper arm and carrying too much weight over the shoulders. Chest of good width and depth. Strong short loin, muscled hindquarters. I would like a little more bend of stifle. Excellent bone and feet. Moved well but never really gave me the impression that he got into full gait.

Limit Dog (3)

1ST Griffin-Woods, Mrs C, Migwell Soloman’s Puzzle (Ai): This male really stood out for me in this class and in my eventual male line-up. Of excellent type and quality all through and free from coarseness and exaggeration. The best of heads that is of the correct proportions with well placed ears. Strong muzzle and underjaw with dentition that is both correct, clean and complete. Strong clean neck into excellent forehand assembly consisting of well placed shoulders and corresponding return of upper arm. Very good depth and width of brisket. Ribs nicely sprung into muscular loin. His coat is both of correct texture and density. Muscular hindquarters with moderate turn of stifle. Correctly set tail. Quality bone all through. Moved soundly and accurately whenever asked. My pleasure to award him the Reserve Dog Challenge Certificate today.

2ND Murch, Miss L, Franeo Original Long Gunner At Pixiesrock: A balanced dog of 3½ years of age. Pleasing overall type with good head and expression, dentition correct, clean and complete. Clean neck into well placed shouder assembly, lacked a little in depth and width of brisket. Short loin, with muscular hindquarters. Tight neat feet with short nails – I did not like his tail position on the move. Moved and handled well.

3RD Rigby, Mr D, Chesepi Waco

Open Dog (2)

1ST Mahon, Miss M & Hunns, Mr J & Newton, Mr J, Sh Ch Arnac Bay Huron At Bergelle JW: What a super dog in terms of overall quality, type and presence in the show ring. A male of 3½ years of age that still has his best to come. Very difficult to fault. Presets an extremely well balanced outline. Outstanding head of correct proportions with ears well placed, deep strong muzzle and underjaw. Correct clean and complete dentition. Strong, clean neck leading to an excellent lay of shoulder and return of upper arm. Width and depth of brisket are correct with elbows close to chest. Excellent spring of rib into short and muscular loin. Muscular hindquarters, correct tail set. Quality coat of good texture. Excels in bone. The very best of tight and neat feet with short nails – thank you – On the move I could not fault this dog, he was accurate in all planes demonstrating good drive from the very best of hindquarters assemblies and expertly handled. My absolute pleasure to reward this dog with the Dog Challenge Certificate and eventually Best Opposite Sex.

Puppy Bitch (2)

1ST Watts, Miss K, Oakleaf Manor Bay Of Oakmarsh (Imp GER) NAF: A very raw bitch of just 6 months of age and at her very first show outing. She behaved better than her age would have reasonably expected. Very feminine head and expression, dentition, correct, clean and complete. Clean neck into pleasing forehand assembly, extremely raw through her chest and ribs, correct loin proportions, moderate turn of stifle, moved soundly.

2ND Searles, Mrs V & Searles, Mr C, Oakmarsh Indian Dream Maker For Cravessa: Another very raw young lady of 7 months of age. Of pleasing type. Good head with pleasing expression. Clean neck into well made forequarters, chest of good width and depth, loin of optimum length, when standing, she was a little straighter in stifle than I would have preferred. Neat feet spoilt by nails that were too long. Moved soundly.

Junior Bitch (4, 1abs)

1ST Playle, Mr R & Thomas, Mrs S, Riptide Whistlin Duck: My eye was taken by this bitch from the moment that she entered the ring today. She just needs to mature to come into her best. Well balanced all through with an excellent head and the best of expressions. Dentition correct, clean and complete. Strong and muscular neck, correct depth and width of brisket. Well ribbed back leading through into strong loin. Excellent hindquarters and correct bend of stifle. Quality bone all through. Moved very well and accurately at all times. 2ND Broomfield, Mrs C & Broomfield, Mrs S, Glaneils Cut Your Groove: Balanced and well made bitch. Typical head with medium eye and well placed ears, Strong muzzle, correct, clean and complete dentition, Strong clean neck, good forehand assembly, deep chest well ribbed strong loin, well muscled moderately angulated hindquarters, good bone and feet that would have benefitted from shorter nails, moved out well but did not maintain her topline.

3RD Watts, Miss K, Oakmarsh Freedom

Limit Bitch (5, 1abs)

1ST Thompson, Mrs T M & Thompson, Mr D, Arnac Bay Harvest: Such a pleasing bitch in terms of overall breed type and quality – today she was let down by being out of coat, which I would have forgiven to a degree in the final challenge but I could not forgive the lack of attention given to the length of the nails that completely spoilt otherwise tight, neat feet. The most feminine of heads and expressions with strong muzzle and underjaw, correct, clean and complete dentition, Strong, clean and medium length neck into excellent layback of shoulder with corresponding return of upper arm, deep chest of good width, ribs well sprung, muscular hindquarters with moderate turn of stifle, quality bone all through. Moved accurately in all planes.

2ND Herring, Mrs D C & Herring, Mr T, Sharbae Rebel Rebel: Pleasing bitch of good overall type and balance, good head with well placed and set ears, strong muzzle, correct, clean and complete dentition, strong neck into good forehand assembly, good depth and width to chest, ribs well sprung quality bone and neat feet but nails could have been shorter, moved well and soundly in all planes.

3RD Playle, Mr R & Thomas, Mrs S, Arnac Bay Brebe with Riptide

Open Bitch (2)

1ST Middleton, Ms J & Mayhew, Mrs C, Sh Ch Arnac Bay Hebe: I feel privileged and honoured to have had the opportunity to have judged this simply exceptional Chesapeake Bay Retriever bitch who for me, fulfils the breed standard in every aspect – I believe that I appreciated her even more as I could imagine taking her out to work in the shooting field all day. Exceptionally well balanced all through without any trace of coarseness or exaggeration. Balanced, feminine head with the best of expressions, strong muzzle, dentition correct, clean and complete. Strong, clean and well well muscled neck into the very best of forehand assemblies with textbook shoulder placement. Width and depth of brisket good with elbows tight to chest, correctly sprung ribs that then seamlessly extend into a muscular loin, quality muscled hindquarters with moderate turn of stifle and correct hock to heel placement. Quality bone all through with neat feet. Her coat is of the correct texture and density. On the move she simply flowed on an effortless gait that drove from the rear and extended in front. My absolute honour and pleasure to award her the Bitch Challenge Certificate and worthy Best of Breed

2ND Coppin, Miss J & Davies-Jones, Mr D, Dallandor Jocasta: Quality bitch. Well balanced with pleasing

head and expression. Correct, clean and complete dentition. Well placed shoulder and return of upper

arm. Correct through ribcage and loin. Strong hindquarters, excellent bone and feet spoilt by nails that

were too long. Coat of correct texture and density. Moved well both fore and aft and in profile

Veteran Bitch (1)

1ST Mayhew, Mrs C, Sh Ch Arnac Bay Flax: A quality bitch of 7½ years whose looks belie her age.

Well balanced all through with pleasing, correct head and expression. Dentition, correct, clean and

complete, very good shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm, good width and depth of brisket,

correct through ribcage and loin, strong hindquarters with excellent bone and feet that could have had

nails cut shorter. Coat of good quality. Moved well both, fore, aft and in profile.
