Judge Marcia Dillon

214 dogs 240 entries

Firstly I’d like to thanks Birmingham National for the invitation to judge Whippets at this prestigious show awarding CCs for the first time. Due to covid, dates had been moved and was thankful I’ve be one of the lucky ones I was going to have the opportunity to fulfill my appointment. Never did I think I’d have such an amazing entry the highest of the entire show. I did have a few absentees due to kennel cough, covid and fuel shortages but extremely happy with the beautiful dogs I had the chance to go over. We had a lovely sized ring and whippet folk appeared to be in good sprites. Thank you to my two stewards who kept my ring going smoothly we even managed a 20 minute break. I have had lots of time to think about this important day and I’ve taken it extremely seriously as I know only too well how hard it is in whippets and every placing is important.

I have a close circle of friends and it was agreed that none would enter inc friends I’ve travelled with and stayed with and attend shows with. I don’t want to be known as ‘that judge’ honestly and fairness in my mind was crucial. Overall I think our breed is in a good place I didn’t have many over desired height and only a few incorrect bites. So with the job in hand I did my thing I judged on that day in that hall what I saw not what I saw last week but then and now.

Thank you for the support of this society, to Helen Howard and Nick Gorley for believing in me, my loyal friends for coming along to spectate and with out saying for everyone that entered under me it was an honour and I hope you enjoyed the day as much as me.

SBD- 1- Trouton - Runnel Run for Fun Fawn boy I judged as a pup. He’s still as sound and balanced as he was then. Moderate in way typical whippet head shown in great condition pleasing shape and handled beautifully. He won this class and BSBIB on his foot perfect movement. Clean coming and going

2- Brew Crosscop the show must go on

This younger dog excels in quality made on the same lines as 1 and one I have admired ring side. I’d prefer slightly more infill of chest but hopefully that will come in time. He wasn’t as tidy coming and going as 1 but excels in other ways . Beautiful type hands flow over his body not over done in any way. Pleasing top line good strong first thigh that creates a good outline.

MPD - Wilton-Clark Shalfleet Chading the wind at 7 month this brindle boy with white trim showed beautiful for one so young. He has some growing and maturing to do but did enough to win this class. Masculine head with heavy white trim , his neck flowed into his body and held a correct top line standing and moving. He has enough rear angulation which I’m sure he will grow into. BPD

2 - Robinson Indian Chief at Tarward

Red fawn more compact than 1 shown in fit condition. Correct feet fine ears pleasing to go over. Racey outline . Will fill frame in time .

PD - 1Smith Whithead Citycroft Drumshanbo

Dark red brindle boy with white feet. Flat bone neat feet. Pleasing long neck and elegant throughout. He covered the ground well.

He moved slightly wider than I desired maybe when he drops into his frame this could tidy up. He shows well for a young dog.

Lloyd 2 Barnsmore scarlet dragon at penwincoed. Red fawn black masked all male boy. Has a quality about him but at this age too much of him for me. Pleasing head correct shaped eyes and ear set. Nice curvy underline good infill of chest.

JD 1- 2nd SBD

2- Barnes Dodgeridge silver jigilo

Black brindle heavy white trim/ parti sweetest of expressions. Strong under jaw Once he relaxed his shape got better I’d prefer a bit more length to improve outline. Moved well held himself well.

YD- 4/4

1- Lolani Cafe Amore Great for size so balanced throughout. Pleasing top line and curves where they should be. He’s easy and free on the move and very much ‘my type’ he won this class with ease. A melting expression beautiful young dog who I’m sure will go all the way. There’s nothing flashy about him but very hard to find anything not to like.

2- Wolfcastle Livin the Dream , made on a different frame to 1 but still a quality male. Fawn brindle white trim.masculine but elegant. Moves well. Shows himself off with nice head carriage. I just preferred shape of 1. These boys could swap places another day.

MD 3/0

1-

Penwinco Night out with the Fellas 3rd in mpd.

Beautiful quality up to size male. Shown in good condition. Good infill.

2- Supetas here comes the sun into Astrazone.

Moved nicely in profile, good spring of ribs . Needs to drop into frame this will come.

ND 5:2

1- 1st JD

2- Demerlay on a promise . In my notes I put ‘ like a different dog in this class’ this dog was a seen dog from JD . He was much more settled and held his shape stacked and moving. Beautiful expression hood neck into shoulders. Very typical from this kennel.

GD 8:1

1- Supeta Mojito for Aylros. Fawn masculine male was my winner on first look and headed this class throughout. I really was taken by his outline stacked and moving. Nice quality under hand . Good head strong under jaw. Moved with drive and power. Well balanced throughout. This young boy could very well in the ring as he matures. I liked him a lot.

2- Arjuna Winter Star- Very attractive red brindle, up to size and I felt he wasn’t totally relaxed today. Nice flat muscle good spring of ribs. Shown in good condition.

PGD 10:4

1- Kidaruka Mother of Mercy very typical fawn dog . Well balanced and of good proportions throughout. He won this class on his soundness and accurate movement. Lots of infill and deep chest. Strong head and under jaw. Good outline. Handled well

2- Tigsisle Make Done Noise , dilute fawn 6 years old. Small throughout than 1. Pleasing whippet expression. He deserved his place in this class for his quality and type. Moved well.

Good top and underline, nice infill.

MLD 16/3

1- Osterfen Janus fawn parti dog who I’ve admired many times. Extremely sound and such a true mover.

He’s marked perfectly to show his correct return of upper arm and moderate but curves behind, all well balanced. Melting expression, fine ears and correct eye shape. His size was spot on and another boy I feel could go all the way. In the challenge I just wanted a bit more but definitely one I will follow with interest.

2- Collooney the big Tease. Red brindle black mask white trim beautiful neck into shoulder .brother of my CC winner. Full of quality but not as together as winner but that will come. Held his shape when moving, lovely outline stacked and moving. This masculine male was pleasing to go over and lots to like. Shown in great condition. Carries himself well.

LD 16/3

1- Ch Collooney eye love to tease at Stonefox red brindle white trim, stood out in this strong class for many reasons. The first thing I noticed was his curves for me the best shaped whippet of the day. He’s a strong male but has a melting expression and a beautiful dark eye, fine ears and many other finer points I was looking for. Flat bone good spring of pasterns balanced throughout.

Moved effortlessly and for a strong male elevates himself to move with elegance and grace. Holding that super shape at all times.

My CC and BOB he was a pleasure to judge.

2- Collooney playing away at courtbrich so much to like about this fawn dog, super for size and lots of breed type. Moved soundly and correct, beautiful head nice finer qualities throughout. Unfortunate to meet 1 today but I really think he has a bright future if campaigned.

OD 9/3

1- Ch Silkridge Just Joey , more compact than my CC winner and pushed hard he was my RCC he is a worthy champion. He commands attention in the ring. Good proportions and nice construction in front. Nice to go over him , good spring of ribs pleasing top line and underline. Correct tail set. Great infill.

He move true and steady back and forth, excellent in profile.

Strong thighs which carry him effortlessly around the ring. Not sure I could keep up with him !

2- Ch Jothryn future legend with Mollytop fawn white trim worthy champion. Smooth to go over and moved soundly I just wanted a bit more in profile. His elegant neck flowed into his correct shoulders. Nice tight feet balanced throughout, his size and proportions appealed to me.

My DCC & RCC was purely on outline at the end all 3 dogs that I considered are worthy of a CC.

I feel the dogs are strong in the ring atm and some quality that could hopefully bring a lot to peoples further breeding.

VD 5/1

1- Glantam going my way nice for size and moderation all over not showing his years. Felt lovely underhand . Nice rise over loin. Best moving veteran of the day. BVIB

2- Speymalt Northern Star finer throughout than 1, elegant boy with a sweet expression. Nice fine ears. Good flat bone, he is balanced and a true mover. Not showing his year either.

SBB 4/0

1-Crosscop a dream come true this young bitch is a beautiful quality with a lovely head and eye shape. Coming along nicely for her age. Moved the best in this class to win .

2- Lawley Moon First love. An older bitch with good return of upper arm and nice pasterns. Showed well.

MPB 13/3 many promising pups went without a place.

1- 6 Month typical full of fun red fawn . Stand out quality in this super class. Beautiful eyes and expression nice neck into laidback shoulders.

I forgave her wildness on the move as I saw enough. Good Angles and balance. Won on her super outline.

2- Silkridge Jasmine I’ve admired this more compact bitch for a while and she didn’t disappoint. Beautiful sweet expression. Good top line held at all times. Good infill for age. I will watch this girl with interest.

PB- 6/1

 Citycroft Americano with Silkridge

1-Not for one second did I think when I entered the ring my BCC would be a black pup, ( not that colour is important) her coat gleamed she takes my breath away my favourite dog ever from this kennel.

What’s not to love it’s all there and this tender age. She moved with elegance and grace like an experienced show dog. I was there to award who I thought was the best bitch on the day and that’s what I did, without any hesitation. Loved her I could take her home easily. Ticked every box in the breed standard for me today. Well done little lady

2- Burqa Di Gucci flashy show girl hard to ignore. Feminine and together very eye catching parti.

Moves very well for a young girl with drive and intent. Needs to drop slightly but her future is surly bright.

JB 13/7

1-

Crosscop Candle in the Wind to Supeta. Fawn elegance at its finest. Beautiful outline ,nice spring of rib smooth to go over. I adored her shape. Stand square and true from all views. Sweetest of heads and expression.

Unfortunately for her handler who did a wonderful job she was keen to pull away when moving but I saw enough. We must have a future champion here. I’ll take her home as well. RCC .

2- Ranveli Instant Crush shapely brindle bitch great for size. Very different type than 1 but a quality girl. Had many finer breed type qualities which I appreciated. Moved steady and well. Handled very well

YB 10/5

1-

Wolfcastle Dare to Dream this bitch was my surprise find of the day. I’ve never seen her before and she made me smile when I was going over her. Super sound in all directions, different type to some of my other winners but so correct and attractive in the line up. Well constructed throughout. Beautiful front set up. Tidy coming and going.I will watch out for her in future.

2- Lolani Mocha Martini beautiful for size and the ‘ type’ I’m drawn to. I thought she was my winner when entering the ring but sadly wouldn’t move straight. None the less her feminine head and well toned smooth body was beautiful to go over. Balanced angulation front and rear.

MB 7/3

1- Kierpark Dancing Queen 10 month old shapely bitch. Covers a lot of ground stacked and moving. Beautiful smooth shoulders, good proportions all round correct tail set. Moved around the ring freely. 2- 2nd MPB

NB 14/7

1- Nevedith El Ite 8 month old dark brindle racey elegant pup. My guilty pleasure. Different from all my class winners in type today but I could not deny her this class win. I really like her for size, breed type and balance. That pleasing rise over loin kept on the move. Good string of Pasterns. Moved well in all directions.

2- Tigsisle it’s about time Fawn and white parti,

Fawn white trim shown in tip top condition and handled beautifully. Good proportions all round. Good top line stood and moving.

Lots to like about this girl.

2- Kidaruka Mother of Mine this bitch was beautiful for size. Fawn but of a different type to 1. Sweet correct head, shapely all over moved well. Could swap with 1 on anther day.

MLB 10/4

1- Gilnockie Have Faith feminine in a gleaming black coat. Was my winner on my first look. Such a beautiful shape. Correct top and underline. A true show girl who’s day will come.

2- Crosscop maybe one more for Mulclair

Another quality bitch that was pleasing to go over I just preferred top line of 1. Beautiful head nice fine ears. Moved well.

LB 18/6

1- Lolani Spiced Gold lots to admire about this red fawn bitch I’d be very surprised if she’d didn’t make her title. Moved soundly with reach and drive. Just so nicely put together and handled to perfection. When I was judging I couldn’t put my finger on it what was missing in the challenge. I later found out she had had pups 8 weeks prior. That lustre I felt she lacked on the day will shine on another.

2- Ardencote Sweet Destiny for Bluestreak

Fawn and white ultra feminine girl. Good head and correct eye shape. Again so much to like and so much by the book. Moved around the ring well. Beautiful top line holding her shape at all times . Moderate all over.

A good place in this nice class for both these bitches.

OB 10/2

1- Saraquele Sound Effects.

2- Lorbri Mistletoe Magic

Both these bitches could change places at anytime I found them both super for size, balance and moderation. Both strong in loin with strong back ends.

I feel they both could hold their own against any competition in the UK.

Today I preferred the top line and performance of 1. 1 Held herself proud the whole class.

Both looked good in profile and gave me lots to think about.

VB 5/2

1- Musblaiks on thru the night not showing her age a more compact bitch. Nicely put together good feet and bone. Moved well.
