LKA – Miniature Long Haired Dachshunds – 11.12.21 – Judge Lloyd Cross (Loggeta)

I would like to thank the committee of LKA for this appointment and importantly for those who gave me such a fabulous entry to judge and also my super-efficient stewards Katherine & Eileen Herrington who remained up beat and cheerful through a very long day of judging your hard work was much appreciated. I can say that since I last judged this variety of the breed, the quality of entry was much improved with better fronts, shoulders and hind angulation. Temperaments were good, movement was in the main strong with several exhibits showing true drive. Only one poor mouth and virtually all exhibits within the correct weight parameters. Presentation was very good. No exhibits were presented too thin or underweight. I would like to thank the exhibitors for their patience and good sportsmanship as I had a huge entry of mini smooths to complete in advance. Delighted with all my winners and many that were unfortunate not to win their classes due to the number of quality exhibits. Absolutely thrilled to see my Best of Breed go on to take Hound Group 1 in a very strong line up under Phil Freer – the icing on the cake!

Puppy Dog (6,2)

1.    Boyle’s Zarcrest See in Red. Super smart 10.5 month red of style and elegance. Excelled in outline with the correct flowing topline into well angulated driving hindquarters. Good front, head & lovely length of neck - still a baby and with further maturity will be outstanding. Correct coat. Lovely air of showmanship throughout. Presented and handled to perfection. Res C.C.

2.    Latham-Jackson’s Hanishan Neapolitan Urishay – 7 months baby of great promise. Profuse coat on a correctly made body, great front & held a strong topline on the move. Needing time to settle and mature but a puppy to watch with interest.

3.    Wallace’s Ralines Just Jiles

Junior Dog (3,1)

1.    Poole’s Findowrie Mister McKye – extremely promising shaded red boy another with great style & presence. Lovely head, eye & expression. Good in front, nice tight elbows. Correct nicely angulated hindquarters providing good true movement away and back. Held a lovely outline on the move. Unfortunately, in the challenge was unable to be handled by his owner and was looking for his mum!

2.    Crow’s Drymoor Friars Luxury among Martinks, Black & Tan of a good type, good front and level topline, sound all through but just too much of him for me.

Post Graduate Dog (8,2)

1.    McCarthy’s Nagshall Santa Paolo, well-proportioned boy of correct size and balance, nice masculine head, elegant without being too tall, sufficient ground clearance, sound all through and moved well.

2.    Russell’s Russteck Moonbeam, Black & Tan of correct size. Very sound and honest throughout, held a good outline on the move, correct lay of shoulder and good hind angulations, for me would prefer a little more length of neck.

3.    Drady’s Tolberg Black Adder at Indiko

Limit Dog (6,1)

1.    Phillips Summerview Yogi Bear JW, Choc/Tan of correct size, lovely front and shoulders, nice ribbing carried well back, short in loin and well angulated hindquarters used with purpose on the move. A super sound dog just in between coats on the day but of a lovely type seen in his offspring in the bitch classes.

2.    Dunhill’s Zarcrest Flash Gordon at Gellijam, 3 yrs quality well marked silver dapple of elegant type. Correct head and eye, good neck into correct shoulders, tight in elbow and decent topline held on the move. Just preferred the hind quarters and movement behind of the winner.

3.    Weston & Johnson’s Ecotyne Devils Advocate

Open Dog (4,0)

1.    Poole’s Findowrie Mr McKenzie, beautifully presented shaded red out of the top drawer. Loved his correct proportions, lovely balanced, elegant dog in super bloom on the day. Best of fronts lovely tight feet and tight in elbow. Good ribbing and short in loin. Super hind angulation moved with style and drive. Loved particularly the way his lines flow as a hound should from his super neck line over his correct shoulders to a super level topline and lovely rounded hammy hindquarters. Showed his socks off. Every dog has its day, and this was his. Many congratulations to his owner/breeder/handler on a lovely dog handled and shown to perfection. Did not hesitate to award him the C.C. in strong competition.

2.    Woods Ch. WIldstar Wreward, Black & Tan of good quality and type, good front, topline and hind angulation. I have judged him before and liked him then. Another super quality dog of great type and sire of my BOB – just preferred the free movement and style of the CC & Res CC winners on the day. Very honest well-deserved Champion.

3.    Hall’s Cliffmere Woodman

Puppy Bitch (14,6) Super strong class

1.    Cox’s Cheritondax Chardonnay. Stunning puppy of 11 months. Lovely head and dark eye, lovely length of neck into correct shoulders, good prosternum tight feet and elbows. Moved correctly away and back with style and elegance, super eye-catching girl unlucky to come up against such a super dog puppy on the day. Must have a very bright future.

2.    Butler’s Minard Out of The Darque from Drymoor. Super B/T of great sound honest type. Good head, dark eye lovely front girdle flowing into level topline, short loin and correctly angulated hindquarters. Nice underline on the day just preferred the little extra length of neck of the winner. Another to watch with a bright future.

3.    Rothchild’s Rothmia Renaissance

Junior Bitch (8,4)

1.    Mason’s Crownlake’s Queen Bee. Very smart Black & Tan of good quality and lovely flowing lines. Well made front and decent ribbing. Lovely topline and good hindquarters. Really come into her own on the move holding a lovely outline at all times. Superbly handled and presented.

2.    Williamson’s WIldstar Wrobina at Barkroyal. Another top-quality exhibit from the Wildstar kennel. Shaded red just out of puppy and will hold her own. Correct sound overall construction built on elegant lines. Close decision between these two on the day.

3.    Rothchild’s Rothima Dark Side OF The Moon

Post Graduate Bitch (11,2)

1.    Phillips Summerview Holly Would, shaded red of super type, very feminine and sound all through. Correct front and shoulders flowing into correct top and underline, nice short loin and nice hammy hindquarters, moved well. Quite a close decision between two very similar girls.

2.    Cox’s Dolyharp Sweet Harmony another quality girl built on similar lines to my winner and the same comments apply here, both could have been winners on the day. Well-presented and handled.

3.    Latham-Jackson’s Urishay Pennyroyal

Limit Bitch (10,4)

1.    Mason’s Tolberg Beez Kneez at Teckletown, shown to perfection making the most of her virtues. Good head, lovely neck and shoulders. Good prosternum and tight in elbow, correct width in front and lovely topline. Moved with style using her correctly angulated hindquarters presented beautifully in great bloom. Really impressed me in the challenge to take a very well-deserved Res CC.

2.    Phillips Summerview Minnie Mouse another top-quality exhibit from this kennel who are certainly stamping a lovely type. Another sired by my limit dog winner and carries his qualities in construction and style. Kept a lovely outline at all times another that will go on to do very well, I am sure.

3.    Pain’s Cwmdarhian Radio Gaga Ravensbeech

Open Bitch (4,3)

1.    Wood’s Ch. Wildstar Wrivera – my notes start with “Stunning” in all ways. A beautiful elegant shaded red girl of immense quality. In my opinion text book outline and construction – nothing exaggerated – totally balanced – excelled on the move holding a beautiful head carriage and using her elegant neck to advantage. Another stunning example from this extremely dedicated breeder. Presented and handled to perfection. I had no hesitation in awarding her CC & BOB and even more thrilled to see her go Hound Group 1 under Hound Specialist Phil Freer.

Veteran Bitch (3,2)

1.    Weston & Johnson’s Ecotyne Firewitch – beautifully presented and very smart Black & Tan of 7 years. Very well made and very sound girl who is correct in all ways. Lovely to go over, super front nice tight feet, tight in elbow, great topline and moved correctly with purpose. Lovely coat in excellent bloom.
