Breed: Borzoi

BORZOI

A pleasing entry of Borzoi. Type is rather mixed as it has been for some time. Presentation as usual with this breed was excellent, but please, why so many dirty teeth even on otherwise beautifully presented hounds? A lot were out of coat, no doubt not helped by the unpredictable weather this spring and summer. Fewer very poor movers than the last time I judged. It was pleasing to see the ‘lockdown’ generation not being disadvantaged by the lack of shows for them, some excellent youngsters in this age range.

1st: BINNIE, Mrs S & BINNIE, Miss A Dreamlight Donnie Darko, well grown 10 months w/torti youngster with ample bone and lots of scope, well-shaped masculine head, good clean front with plenty of fill, gentle arch on a good length and strength of loin and correct fallaway. Impressively clean out and back, a little exuberant in profile in what was a rather small ring for a large breed but did enough, a most promising youngster; BP.

1st: DONNELLY, Ms M SERENEFOL BRUTUS, w/g of 17 months with a really nice head, shapely and dry with high set ears and typical expression. Well bodied up with a good arch over the loin, a little short in body for my taste. Well presented, in lovely coat and condition; a little bit untidy out and back

PGD (8 Entries) Abs: 2 A really nice class, three high-class young males, all by the same sire, none of whom seem to have suffered from the bad timing of their birth.

1st: PINKERTON, Mrs S & CATTONI-SARMAN, Mrs L Ryazan Viceroy Of Radost At Menigma, 22 months w/r, so much to look forward to here, typy head, well balanced angulation, lots of size and scope about him, well ribbed up, excellent front and feet, strong rear with well let down hocks used to good effect, sound as a bell. He will need a little time to fully strengthen and mature but has all the promise in the world.

2nd: BRIDGE, Miss K Jansams The Show Must Go On, w/br of 23 months, nice masculine head with strong jaw, well set ears, good front angulation, good arch of loin into correct fallaway, clean sound movement, just needs to fill in front a bit more which should come as he matures, very nice.

3rd: EDWARDS, Mr N & EDWARDS, Mrs P Ryazan Velsk, brother to 1 who acquitted himself very well at his first ever show, promising.

LD (6 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: CLARE, Ms J Ryazan Firestorm, quite superb outline on this gold/w mature male, he is not a huge hound but stands over plenty of ground with well ribbed up body and strong muscular loin, in full glamorous coat, moved well in profile and lots of drive behind, plenty of fill and with excellent return of upper arm, matching rear angles. Workmanlike in head, not as refined as some.

2nd: DAWSON, Mr N & DAWSON, Mrs E & DAWSON, Mr A Steppdance Pintel At Stubbylee (Imp Nor), a very different type, more elegant with dark eye and plenty of depth through the jaw, well balanced angulation and he moved very well in all directions, stands over lots of ground; a little lacking in coat at present and even though he is four years old he looks like a slow maturing type and is probably a year or two short of his peak.

3rd: JACKSON, Mr R & JACKSON, Mrs A Charnealis Old Black Magic at Padztar

OD (4 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: GRAHAM, Mrs S Dashava Calgary, almost 5 y/o self sable, liked him as a youngster but he has matured into a very high class hound, most pleasing head and outlook, excellent front and feet, really well bodied up with a strong muscular loin of very good length, absolutely sound with lots of drive going away and clean coming at me, covered the ground well in profile, no exaggerations anywhere, just a sound typical well constructed Borzoi of great merit. CC, his fourth.

2nd: KANOO, Ms H Ch Nibrass Roger Fitzempress JW, this 6yo male has a really striking outline, dark eye and strong jaw with good head planes, exceptional front, good depth of brisket and length of ribbing, gentle arch and correct fallaway to well carried tail, strong quarters with well-let-down broad hocks, covers the ground well in profile but not quite as clean out and back as the winner. RCC.

3rd: WHEATLEY, Mrs E M & WHEATLEY, Mr P Russkiy Azart Ambassador Reality Rondo( imp)ITA

Class 848 VD (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: HARVEY, Mrs L & JONSSON, MS E Sw Ch No Ch Fi Ch Int Ch Lynx Ray Of Shine (Swed Imp) W/br of 7 years, plenty of size about him, well-balanced head with good veining and depth of jaw, good front with slightly sprung pasterns and good feet, deep brisket and well ribbed up, good turn of stifle producing plenty of drive behind, made the best of himself on the move, just flattening out in topline a little bit. BV and delighted to see him take VG3

2nd: KANOO, Ms H Nibrass Prince Charming, 8yo with a pleasing outline, arched topline and well-muscled quarters, good depth of chest and breadth of loin, head OK but ears rather low set; good feet and pasterns and in excellent coat, credit to his owner.

SBD/B (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: PELL, Mr M Harropine Swift, VHC in the strong PG class; four year old male, scopy type with good matching angles front and rear, good eye shape and head planes, as with many today he was just changing his coat, and would like a bit more arch to the loin. My sincere apologies for critique from memory only. Best Special Beginner in Breed.

PB (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: KANOO, Ms H Nibrass Queen Ethelflaeda, 9 months delightful w/br, pretty head with dark eye and veining, good front angles and plenty of fill, standing over plenty of ground and she moved really soundly with light free stride in profile, has just dropped her puppy coat but that only went to show her correct conformation. BPB.

JB (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: KANOO, Ms H Nibrass Countess Alwara, littermate to 1st in PB and many of the same comments apply; sound front, strong clean rear, perhaps the better head of the two but a little less scopy than her sister and rather exuberant in front today. They would make a tremendous brace!

PGB (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: CLARE, Ms J Ryazan Vogue, 22 months w/cr bitch of very high quality, lovely detailed head and dark eye, good length of neck into well-laid shoulder, springy pasterns, good feet, well bodied up for age with ample fill in front, standing over plenty of ground with strong broad loin and balanced fallaway, so sound out and back and light effortless stride in profile, more forward than her brothers at this stage but looked a little unfinished next to the Open winner, nevertheless put up a very strong bid for the top spot. RCC.

LB (5 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: BINNIE, Mrs S & BINNIE, Miss A Dreamlight Zephryndrouhin, 3 yo w/r, quality head with obvious veining, decent front with plenty of fill and return, good depth and length with a gentle arch over a broad loin, good turn of stifle and hocks well let down, her movement was very sound and clean but not putting her best foot forward in profile.

2nd: DAWSON, Mr N & DAWSON, Mrs E & DAWSON, Mr A Metel Avgusta Ala Azul At Stubbylee (Imp Rus) JW, very feminine and elegant 2yo tri bitch with a super head and outlook, plenty of scope, moved well when she settled, good depth of brisket and long ribbing, gentle arch to loin, correct feet and pasterns. Right out of coat and will need time to fill and mature.

3rd: PARSONS, Mrs M Jamarqui Alchemy Annie JW

OB (5 Entries) Abs: 3

1st: HARVEY, Mrs L Ch Ir Ch NL Ch Albaneiler Aquae Sulis CW17 (ai), beautiful mature w/silver bitch with plenty of size about her, quite lovely head with strong jaw but plenty of detail and femininity, fills the eye with her perfect balance. So sound and well constructed but she also has that quite indefinable ‘look of eagles’ and tremendous ring presence, she just demands to be looked at. Even in this small ring she was able to demonstrate her light, free, graceful flowing movement which was so evident in the big Group ring later and took her to a well deserved G3 in a fantastic group. Outstanding bitch; CC & BOB.

2nd: DONNELLY, Mrs M & DEVEREUX, Mrs J Serenefol Alicja, 4 yo w/br, nice head with fine ears, good length of neck into well laid shoulder, ribbing carried well back, strong muscular quarters and well let down hocks. Rather soft in pastern and her front movement was untidy.
