Blackpool & District Canine Society

Breed: Spaniel (English Springer)

Spaniel (English Springer)

Judge(s): MRS LESLEY McCOURT

What an honor it was to award my first set of CC’s in this lovely breed of ours, and I would like to thank everyone that attended for my opinion. I am also grateful that in these trying times the committee of Blackpool Championship Dog Show was able to go ahead with the show where so many others have had to cancel. My thanks also go to the committee for their hospitality and warm welcome and to my two stewards, Ann and Leah for their help.

It has to be said that the dogs faired better than the bitches with a bigger outdoor ring, which enabled them to move around freely, sadly the rain became just a bit too heavy after the dog challenge and we had to move inside for the bitch judging.

On the whole I was pleased with the quality of the entry today.

1ST SANDYLANDS XPRESS DELIVERY (MR E & MRS E CASEY & JAYES)

Smart L/W of 10 months, his head is developing nicely although eyes need to darken; he has a good length of neck, leading to a firm topline. His forechest is developing, he has a straight front, but I would have preferred a touch more return in upper arm, he has good bone and neat feet. He has ample depth of chest and a decent rear end, he moves well for his age and was presented nicely. BPIB and pleased to see him take the puppy group and Best Puppy in Show. Well done!

1ST CHERISHYM DOFIDA (MR P & MRS Y RICHARDSON & TERRY-RICHARDSON)

My surprise of the day, I really liked this smart B&W boy he was nice to ‘go over’ he is balanced and a good size. He has a lovely head which is masculine without being course, lovely dark eyes giving a soft expression. He is straight in front, well developed in chest and good spring of rib, he has decent rear quarters and although he was a little too enthusiastic at times on the move, when he settled I could see that he was true in all directions. I feel his handler could have made more of him in the challenge, as he didn’t look as good as he did in the class. 2ND TRIMERE TIPPING POINT OF ALLENIE (MR G T & MR P ALLEN & BOTT)

I preferred the shape of the winner here today, as I find this L/W boy a bit longer cast than I would like, that said he has a masculine head with good depth to muzzle, his eye could be a touch darker, He has a neck of good length leading to a firm topline with good depth to chest, he is well off for bone, has lovely rear quarters, with good width of thigh and correct bend of stifle. He moved well, and was shown in good condition.

Upstanding L/W dog, who has a pleasing head, he has enough length of neck, he is well off for forechest, has good bone and his chest is deep, his rear quarters are strong and well muscled with good width of thigh. He moves out well but has a tendency to roll. He was presented in gleaming coat and condition.

1ST KENNAIR DREAMING ON A STAR (MRS N J MORGANS)

Mature L/W whose head is a little strong for me, however he has a lovely dark eye. He has a good forechest and well boned legs. He has plenty of substance and strength in body.. He was a little sluggish on the move today and not in his best jacket.

1ST BERESFORD AS GOOD AS IT GETS (MRS T E TOPLISS)

Loved this L/W boy who I’d not noticed before. His head is just lovely, balanced with width and depth to muzzle, his eyes are dark and his expression is soft and kind. He is balanced and of a good size, he has a neck of good length with correct front angulation, well boned, with good deep chest. Strong rear quarters, great width of thigh giving a lovely bend of stifle. He moved out well with good reach and drive although I would have preferred a lower tail carriage to compliment his shape on the move. He was well presented, in gleaming coat and condition, and I was more than happy to award him the CC which I believe is his first. I hope the other two follow on.

2ND SH CH/NORD/SWED/DK/NO SH CH ART-WAVES STANDING OVATION FOR ALLENIE (I (MR R P & MRS C BOTT & SAVELL)

Lovely dog who has done well under me before. He makes a good shape when stacked has a lovely head and dark eye. He is balanced with good length of neck, straight front; he is well boned, with ample depth of chest, his rear quarters are strong with good width of thigh and well turned stifle. He owns the ring when he moves as he uses his rear quarters to advantage. RCC

1ST BEATERS BARRON JW SHCM VW (MRS C CLARKE)

9 and a half years young was this well proportioned L/W boy. Masculine head with lovely expression, he has lost a couple of teeth, but given his age, this is acceptable, as ‘in his day’ he would have had full dentition. He is well off for bone; straight in front with good forechest he is well bodied with a decent rear end. He moved so well it was lovely to see him enjoying his day. BVD

1ST STRATHNAVER STARSTRUCK (MRS D CONRAD)

Puppy – Bitch

What a sweet heart this 8 month old L/W baby is. She is just right for her age in every way, she has a pretty feminine head, eye that is dark, and her head is balanced, with good length to foreface and width of muzzle. Good length of neck into level topline, she is straight in front, with her chest developing nicely. She makes a nice shape when stood, on the move she was a little loose in front as you would expect, and in the challenge, she preferred the smells of the floor – but doesn’t every Springer do that? I will watch her progress with interest. BPB

1ST ALHAMBIAN AMY WINEHOUSE (MR M & MRS K KEELY)

Another nice puppy of 9 months. She makes a good shape standing, with a pretty head and dark eye, well bodied for her age with excellent front and rear angulation. Decent length of neck into well laid shoulders, she has good substance for her age and lovely bone. She just seemed to lack confidence on the move today.

1ST ELAZLAN PAPERBACK WRITER (MR G G & MRS J RAMSHAW)

19mth, B/W, finer all through, sweet head, she lacks depth in muzzle, but she has a lovely dark eye of correct shape, enough neck, neat feet. She was happy and outgoing on the move, although had a tendency to pace at times. I think she would benefit from gaining a few pounds. She was well turned out.

1ST HUNTERHECK WHO'S THAT GIRL AT GLENBROWS (MR G & MRS A TERNENT)

Good substance on this very dark B&W bitch, her markings can make her look short but she is balanced and although well bodied she remains feminine, she is a nice size, has a lovely head, enough neck, she is straight in front with ample forechest. Good rear angulation. She moved out well but has a tendency to lose her topline.

1ST MELVERLY LIL DANCER (MR R J SMITH)

What a lovely quality bitch this is, she flows from head to tail, she is of correct size, with nothing overdone. Her head is feminine, with a dark eye giving a soft expression, Good length of neck being slightly arched, into well laid shoulders, and strong level topline. She has a well developed rib and good depth of chest. Her rear quarters are strong and muscular. She moves true in all directions and has a free and easy stride. She pushed hard for top honors today RCC.

2ND EASTRIDING GLAM PRINCESS (MRS K JENKINSON)

Different type to 1 is this dark liver bitch being of a smaller build but she has a pretty head, straight front, although I would prefer a little more width. She has enough bone and neat feet. She has depth in body and a decent rear end. She moves out well and with enthusiasm.

1ST TRIMERE TIME TO SHINE (MISS L A & MRS P J HAVARD)

What a stunner this liver tri bitch is, she has it all going for her. She is a perfect size for me and she flows from head to tail, giving that balanced outline that is just lovely to look at. Her head is balanced and feminine; she has good length of neck, into well laid shoulders and correct return of upper arm, she stands with forelegs well under, which are well boned. Her chest is deep and well developed with a good rib cage. She is short coupled with strength over the loin and well muscled rear quarters. Good width of thigh and well bent stifle. On the move she is stylish with good reach and drive. Turned out to perfection and handled to advantage. She just had that extra sparkle and ‘look at me’ attitude today that piped the limit bitch winner to the top honors. Pleased to award her, the CC, her 2nd with BOB, I’m sure her crown won’t be far away.

2ND SH CH BERESFORD NIGHT CLASS (MRS T E TOPLISS)

This lovely dark liver bitch is from a different mold to one, being a little longer cast, but she remains balanced. She is a worthy Show Champion, with a feminine head, the darkest of eyes which are the correct almond shape. Her front is straight, with well boned legs and neat feet. She has substance through her body with good depth to chest. Rear quarters well developed with good width of thigh and lovely turn of stifle. She was presented in good coat and condition but today she was a little erratic on the move.

1ST SH CH TRIMERE TERESA GREEN (MISS S J CORBETT)

Super 8 year old bitch who is still in good order throughout. She is a little stronger in head than I would like, but has a lovely dark eye and has good width and depth to muzzle. She has a good length of neck, straight front with good bone. She is balanced with substance through her body, strong loin and muscular rear quarters. Presented in good coat as always from this kennel, she moved effortlessly and with enthusiasm. BVIB and later going on to VG2 well done!

2ND KENNAIR I AM I SAID (MR K & MRS C GREEN)

An honest 8 year old liver bitch, nothing over done here, she presents a balanced picture when stood she has a lovely head with dark eyes. She has strength throughout, with good bone. Muscular rear quarters with well turned stifle. Sadly I think she was stuck in 1st gear today, as she was a little flat on the move.

.3RD CHERISHYM CHARA (MR P & MRS Y RICHARDSON & TERRY-RICHARDSON)
