Monday 25th October 2021
The Belfast & District Irish Setter Club held a championship show on 25th October 2021 at Daisy Dog Academy, Lisburn. There were 61 dogs making 67 entries. BIS was Roffey’s Gwendariff Lucy’s Legacy, Res BIS Bott, Allen & Morgan’s Sh Ch Quensha Tumble and Twirl JW and best puppy Murphy’s Clannrua Erin.
I appreciated the way in which exhibitors sportingly accepted my decisions having been a replacement judge for Mrs Pam Blay who was unable to travel.

1 McKelvey’s Edenavays Unforgettable. Excellent conformation fore & aft. Nice length of head. Good forechest, with good depth of chest for age. Nice bone and good topline. Moved soundly covering the ground well.

1 Bott’s Quensha Take A Bow. Well grown for age. Excellent front & rear angulation. Nice length of head with lots of work around eyes. Nice topline, depth of chest and tailset. Well let down hocks. Moved well fore & aft and shown in excellent condition with coat of good quality.
2 Stewart & Cummings’s Gwendariff Mr President (IKC). Not quite as mature as my winner but superb head & expression. Nice angulation fore & aft; good bone & excellent top line. Good quality of coat. Moved a little close in front.

1 Hughes’s Gwendariff Plays The Flute. Nicely balanced & just preferred his head to that of my second placed dog. Lovely eye & expression with large open nose. Nice neck of sufficient length & strength. Nice topline, well laid shoulders & good depth of chest. Pleasing width of upper & lower thigh. Well let down hocks. Moved soundly both coming and going.
2 Walker’s Gwendariff Flags Are Flyin. Another nice one shown in excellent coat & condition. Good length of neck, nice topline and strong hindquarters. Good angulation & well let down hocks. Just would prefer a little less width in back skull. Nice eye & expression; good depth of chest.

1 Murchison’s Kerryfair Please Please Me Corphin. Res CC. Very nice dog, well matured with excellent angulation fore & aft. Good length of head, lovely eye shape, colour & expression. Lots of work around the eyes and large open nose. Nice lay of shoulder, bone & topline. Excellent depth of chest & spring of rib. Good width of upper & lower thigh. Shown in excellent coat & condition. Covered the ground well on the move really striding out.
2 Loughlin’s Rohanmor Don Juan Demarco JD. Excellent presentation. Masculine head but would just prefer less width in back skull & less stop. Excellent front & rear angulation. Good bone, topline & tailset. Moved soundly fore & aft on neat feet.

1 Tom’s Clannrua Birch. Nicely balanced in outline. Good length of head but would prefer more width of muzzle. Nice neck of sufficient length & strength. Good angulation fore & aft & pleasing muscular loin. Shown in good muscular condition throughout. Good width of upper & lower thigh. Quality coat in good condition. Moved well really covering the ground with every stride.

1 Roffey’s Gwendariff Lucy’s Legacy. CC & BOB. Lovely outline & shown in excellent coat & condition. Elegant but displaying strength. Lovely head & intelligent expression. Neck of good length & displaying sufficient strength. Excellent angulation fore & aft & good forechest. Nice bone & feet; excellent depth of chest. Correct top line with strength over rounded, muscular loin. Moved well really covering the ground with each stride and didn’t put a foot wrong.
2 Murchison’s Pawsword Paperback Writer for Corphin. Excellent length of head. Nice eye shape & expression. Good neck & shoulders & excellent forechest. Excellent depth of chest, correct topline & tailset. Well let down hocks. Moved well but feet a little flat.

1 Dewar’s Gwendariff Here I Come. Shown in excellent coat & condition. Masculine head of good length; nice work around the eyes, sufficient depth of muzzle. Pleasing length and strength of neck. Excellent front & rear angulation & good forechest. Good bone & feet; strong loin and good tailset. Nice width of upper & lower thigh. Moved well when settled.
2 Tupper & Rose’s Staratlanta Shankley’s Fire. Out of a larger mould. Masculine head with lovely eye shape & colour; large open nose. Good forechest & depth of chest, Nice bone & feet; well let down hocks. Covered the ground well on the move. Coat of good quality & texture. Just preferred overall outline of 1.

1 Toms’ IR Sh Ch Toberbilly I Wish You Luck. JD/IR JUN CH. Beautiful example of the breed & presented in excellent coat & muscular condition. Excellent length of head, Masculine but not coarse in any way. Lovely eye & expression. Nice depth & width of muzzle with large open nose. Good angulation fore & aft. Nice topline. Good spring of rib going well back to short, strong, muscular loin. Excellent width of upper & lower thigh. Good bone. Moved well, covering the ground well on neat feet.

1 Tupper & Rose’s Staratlanta Elliott ShCM. Best Veteran. Very nice example of the breed shown in excellent coat & condition. Nice length of head with lots of work around the eye. Good length & strength of neck, nice lay of shoulder & return of upperarm. Good forechest and good depth of chest & spring of rib. Excellent width of upper & lower thigh. Nice tailset. Small, neat feet & moved soundly fore & aft.

1 Murphy’s Clannrua Erin. Best Puppy. Sweet baby with lovely feminine head. Nice eye shape & expression and large, open nose. Excellent depth of chest for age. Good spring of rib and correct topline. Good width of upper & lower thigh; excellent bone. Coat of good colour & texture. Moved well on good feet.

1 Jones’s Gwendariff Dazzling Diva. Very well-presented coat of lovely colour & texture. Lovely feminine head of good length with excellent eye colour, shape & expression. Good length of shoulder & return of upperarm. Excellent angulation fore & aft. Good topline, bone & feet. Moved well when settled.
2 Bott’s Quensha Crimes of Passion. A little raw at the moment but has all the essentials. Nice length of head & neck. Good angulation infront & behind. Excellent length & width of upper & lower thigh. Good depth of chest; sufficient bone & neat feet. Moved well really covering the ground when settled.

1 Gutsell’s Riverbrue Angel Child. Preferred overall outline of 1. Pleasing head & expression with lots of work around the eye. Nicely shaped skull. Good depth & strength of neck. Lovely angulation fore & aft. Good width of upper & lower thigh & well let down hocks. Nice bone, depth of chest & spring of rib for age.
2 Bayne’s Corranroo Rainbow Shimmer. Lovely feminine head of good length & nicely shaped skull. Good depth of chest, Nice topline & tailset. A little longer in the loin than the winner & not quite the hind angulation. Moved well really covering the ground. Shown in good coat & muscular condition.

1 Loughlin’s Rohanmor Magic Flute JD. Lovely bitch presented in good condition. Beautiful head of good proportions, nice skull & muzzle shape.Lovely eye shape & colour. Excellent angulation fore & aft with excellent length & width of upper & lower thigh. Rib cage sufficiently well rounded. Nice topline with strength over the loin. Good bone. Moved well fore & aft, covering the ground well.

1 Nicholson’s Gwendariff Just The Ticket for Lochindorb. Very pleasing outline & lovely head length with feminine eye & expression. Nice length of neck. Excellent lay of shoulder & return of upperarm. Good forechest, depth of chest & spring of rib. Good topline. Would prefer longer length of rib cage. Well let down hocks. Covered the ground well on the move.

1 Loughlin’s Rohanmor Along Came Polly Jun Ch. JD. Res CC. Very. nice bitch and preferred her head to that of my second place. Nice head of good length with good eye colour & expression. Nice depth of chest, good bone and sufficient spring of rib. Correct length & width of upper & lower thigh. Good topline and tailset. Moved well fore & aft.
2 Stewart-Ritchie’s Gwendariff Come Fly With Me. Another nice bitch with good outline. Shown in excellent muscular condition. Nice topline and bone. Good width of upper & lower thigh; well let down hocks. Moved well on small, neat feet. Quality coat of good condition.
3 Bougen’s Gwendariff Lily The Pink.

1 Bott, Allen & Morgan’s Sh Ch Quensha Tumble and Twirl JW. CC. Best front angulation in the class. Shown in excellent coat & condition. Best of heads with lots of work in it. Nicely shaped & proportioned skull & muzzle. Excellent lay of shoulder & return of upperarm. Good depth of chest & spring of rib. Strong topline. Excellent width & length of upper & lower thigh & well let down hocks. Moved soundly fore & aft on neat feet.
2 Loughlin’s Rohanmor Matilda. Jun Ch. JD. Nice in outline but not quite the movement or front angulation of 1. Nicely balanced feminine head. Good bend of stifle & well let down hocks. Pleasing topline & bone. Good tailset. Coat of correct texture, a little curly in places.
3 Jones’s Gwendariff Nutmeg ShCM.

Good bone & feet. Nice topline & depth of chest. Good width, of upper & lower thigh. Moved well really covering the ground with each stride.
