Briards (no CCs)

I would like to thank the committee of the Driffield Championship DCS for inviting me to judge Briards (no CCs) at their 2021 Championship show. I would also like to extend a particular thank you to those who entered such lovely quality dogs on the day – it was my pleasure to go over them.

VD/B(1,1)

PD(1) 1st Kingaby’s Draigafon Silver Shadow: 8 month grey boy. Good head proportions, with large black nose and good bite. Eye could be a shade darker. Nice length of neck. Good topline and good length of tail. Needs more experience to settle on the move. Needs greater substance and coat, which will develop with time.

OD(4) Fieldsend’s 1st You Bring me Joy Moravia Campanella to Starwell: 6 year old fawn male at the top of his game, oozing breed type. Rustic appearance, with good head volume and ear carriage, arched muscular neck flowing into well placed shoulders with good return of upper arm. Not lacking in bone. Correct coat texture, which also showed the necessary break. Rich fawn colour and good pigmentation all around. Good rear angulation promised quality movement, and this was delivered. Carried topline well and covered the ground with balanced drive and extension. Delighted to award BD and BoB 2nd Parry’s Stormymoon Untamed Irish: 4 year old black and another excellent example of the breed, with good substance, good head proportions, good pigmentation and kind expression. Excellent angles and topline. Good length of tail, carried well. Moved with ease and fluidity. Slightly narrower and longer in the back than 1. A well merited RBD. 3rd Curren’s Stormymoon Odin.

JB(1) 1st Foster’s Fostebrie Just Bliss: 14 month fawn bitch showing so much promise. Balanced head with excellent eye colour and skin pigmentation. Good dentition. Elegant neck. Good substance for age, showing good bone, forechest and spring of rib. Good angulation helped her to move with ease and grace. Excellent coat texture and break in the coat should come with maturity.

SYB(3)) 1st Foster’s Fostebrie Just Bliss. 2nd Piggott’s Gilcoru Amour d’Brie: 18 month black girl already showing strength and suppleness. Feminine head with good dark eye and pigmentation. Chest will fill out with a little more time. Excellent angles and firm topline. Nice harsh coat. Good length of tail showing the correct “J”. Once settled, movement was fluid, showing balanced drive and extension. 3rd Fieldsend’s Starwell Careless Whisper.

PGB(1) Fieldsend’s Qessi Heaven Devil to Starwell: 3 year old fawn showing good breed type. Nice head volume and ear set with correct bite and super pigmentation. Good spring of rib. Correct quality coarse, dry coat. Excellent angles front and rear and a steady topline. Moved out well once settled. BB

OB(2) Parry’s Stormymoon Summer: A truly rustic 2 year old fawn bitch with excellent proportions, good substance, excellent angles and strong topline. Superb coat quality. Long, well furnished tail displaying the correct “J”. Good pigmentation indicates that correct coat colour will return. A well deserved RBB 2nd Kellett & Burrows Fostebrie Exotique Noir of Kellbry: 4 year old black girl. Another lovely quality bitch. Dark, expressive eye, well balanced, feminine head and good bite. Firm topline, excellent proportions and a beautiful harsh dry coat.

GCB(1) 1st Kellett & Burrows Fostebrie Romantique of Kellbry: 7 year fawn bitch still presenting a lovely silhouette. Feminine head with lovely dark eye and expression and excellent scissor bite. Deep wide chest. Correct harsh, dry coat. Topline well held on the move, but seemed uncomfortable in the rear today.
