DARLINGTON CHAMP SHOW 18TH SEPTEMBER 2021

IRISH RED & WHITE SETTER

Many thanks to Darlington Dog Show Society for inviting me to award my first set of CCs in the breed. I was highly delighted with the quality of the exhibits and found the breed to be in a very good place. Thrilled to see my Best Puppy top the Gundog Puppy Group.

PD (2) Abs: 1

1st: HART Gilliegrae Time T'Shine

Stood alone today and still quite raw in overall appearance. Correct head proportions, with good dark eye colour. Clean over neck with good shoulders, a little weak in pasterns at the moment. He has adequate rear angulation and when stacked he presents a smart outline. Movement rather erratic but should improve with age.

1st: BARNEY Romaunt Lust For Life

This young dog really took my eye, but boy did he give his handler a hard time. Really liked his head and expression. Good front assembly, tight elbows and has good bone. Well sprung ribs and strong rear quarters. Shown in good coat and condition. Once he settled he moved with drive covering the ground well. One to persevere with.

1st: COOK & CATTON Daithi Shadow Dog With Ferngate (Imp)

A very pleasing and quality youngster developing along excellent lines. He has a very attractive head with correct eye colour .Excellent forehand, with good depth of chest. He has well developed hindquarters and presents a smart outline and is of good colour and markings. Still needs time to mature, but no doubt will do well in the future.

LD (6) Abs: 1

A quality class with close decisions.

1st: GREEN, Zendarric Heart Shaped Box With Viszaset

One I have judged as a youngster and the change in him with maturity is immense.

He has a masculine head yet without coarseness. Best of fronts, a firm body and strong well made hindquarters, with strong hocks. He is so balanced in his overall outline and structure.Turned out in excellent coat and muscular condition. In the challenge he flowed round the ring with such a positive stride and commanded attention. Pleased to award him the CC and BOB and lovely to see him shortlisted in a strong group. Well done

2nd: TATTERSALL & JONES Carrick Shadow Dog With Alanea (Imp Pol)

Another quality dog with ample bone and so well constructed throughout. A little broad in head, has square flews and good pigmentation. Correct straight front with shoulders well laid back and matching rear angulation which gave him a super balanced outline. Moved out soundly and true holding his topline. Res CC

OD (4) Abs: 1

1st: GARDNER Sh Ch Alanea Game Reserve With Danwish

A quality dog that commands attention in the ring. Masculine head with adequate stop and good eye colour. Strong neck leading to excellent front assembly, deep in chest and has good bend of stifle and strong hocks. Shown with abundance of coat and in tip top condition.

2nd: JAKINS & KNOX NL Ch Terne Des Coris Qalimero At Coolfin JW (Imp)

A different type to my winner, but such a soundly made dog. Balanced head proportions with good pigmentation. Correct shoulder lay with deep brisket and strong well developed hindquarters. Good coat texture with rich colour. Has true sound movement and correct tail carriage.

So pleased I got the opportunity to judge this top quality bitch. She has a super head with such a melting expression and good eye colour. I found her of lovely size with correct oval bone and has a firm topline, well sprung ribs and strong hindquarters. Shown in tip top condition, approaching 8 years old she is a credit to her owner. She moves so precisely with a ground covering flowing movement. My CC winner and Best veteran.

PB (3) Abs: 0

1st: GARDNER Charnborough Charisma Of Danwish

What a super puppy she is, so well developed in body for her age. She has a most attractive head with kind expression and dark eye. Clean strong neck, excellent forehand and firm body with correct topline. Adequate rear angulation and good width to thigh. On the move she is so collected and moves out with such confidence. A strong contender for the Res CC. My Best puppy and won the Gundog Puppy Group. Well done.

2nd: JAKINS & KNOX Coolfin Ailbhe

Not as well developed as my winner, but has lots of potential. Pretty head of correct proportions with dark eye. Firm topline and good bend to stifle. She is of good coat colour and has sound movement, lots of time of her side.

3rd: GIBSON Coolfin Aoife

PGB (3) Abs: 1

1st: HART Berryessa Ballderg with Gilliegrae

An up and coming quality youngster. Very feminine in head with expressive eye. She is very balanced and flows from head to tail. She is well constructed throughout with a strong body and firm hindquarters with adequate angulation. She has attractive markings and is of a lovely rich colour. Moved out on a good stride, just needs her coat and furnishings to complete the picture.

2nd: HODGETTS Alanea Obsession of Hodgehall

Another pleasing bitch with a lovely head and expression. She has a good front and well laid shoulders, but requires more depth to body. Good bend of stifle and strong hocks. Moved soundly but just lacked sparkle today.

LB (3) Abs: 1

1st: BARNEY Romaunt Ain't Life Grand

A solidly made quality bitch with a lovely balanced outline when stacked. Feminine in head, with a kind expression. Excellent front and shoulders, with strong neck, elbows close in. Good width to thigh and moved on a good stride and holding her topline in profile.

2nd: CALLAGHAN Laoirebay Penny Lane

Pleasing head proportions with good pigmentation. Strong neck, good depth of brisket and ribs well sprung. Would prefer more bend to stifle, she moved out and back well with a steady gait. Has good coat and colour with adequate furnishings.

OB (4) Abs: 0

1st: BAYNE Sh Ch CORRANROO CONSORT

This was a highly contested class of top quality bitches, I was indeed spoilt for choice. My first place was very appealing in head with a lovely expression and good eye colour. She is so well constructed throughout with flowing lines. Well off for bone and substance with good depth of chest and strong hindquarters and width to thigh. She stands on strong hocks and has correct tail carriage. A bitch of good breed type from all angles. She won this class on her sound positive movement and presented in excellent coat and muscular condition. Res CC

2nd: SHERRATT & BLACKWELL Sh Ch Alanea Holly Fern At Charnborough

One I have done well for in the past and she was on top form again today. Very appealing in head with sweet expression and adequate stop. Excellent front with good oval bone and firm in body. Good spring of rib and strong loin and well muscled hindquarters. She has a free flowing gait and correct tail carriage. A very worthy Show Champion of the breed.
