I would like to thank the committee of ‘Gundog Society of Wales’ for their kind invitation to judge this delightful breed. We were most fortunate to be blessed with warm and dry weather, so able to judge outside and in a lovely big ring. I must commend the exhibitors for the sportsmanship, and of course your beautiful dogs which I thoroughly enjoyed judging, with many close placings.

Lovely start to the judging, a very promising class of youngsters right down the line

1ST TOLLELKIN DREAM COVE AT SHELDRAKE (MISS N NEVERS)

This 8 month old dog just oozes confidence and charisma showing himself off with style. When stood he is so balanced, and with a shapely silhouette. Clean wedge shaped head, almond eye that tones with his coat and those high set ears to give an alert and intelligent expression. He has a lovely flow from nose to tail, holding a firm and level topline. Chest is down to the elbow, and with a nice spring to the ribcage. He stands on well boned limbs and neat feet. Liked his hindquarters which have a good width of thigh and bend to the stifle. Moves with a typical spring to his step and well carried tail. Just needing to tighten a little in front action, showing lovely drive from the rear - BP

2ND TOLLELKIN DREAM HARBOUR (MISS M L ELKIN)

Litter brother to winner, and with many of the same qualities. Liked is overall size and substance. A promising youngster showing lots of character. Pleasing proportions to his head, alert and keen in his expression and demeanour. Clean neck into a firm and level topline, not quite the body as yet of his brother. Good width of thigh and bend of stifle. Moving at one with his handler with good drive from the rear, a little loose in front

2ND AFONBACH FIRST SIGN O' SPRING AT DELTANDAMBA (MISS C HIPKISS)

Lovely bitch just out of puppy, and close up to winner. Thought her to have a shapely and proportionate outline when stood, very balanced and typy. Feminine head, of a clean wedge shape, high set ears and she has a kind expression from those lovely almond shaped eyes. Decent length of neck, and enough depth and spring to the ribs. Liked her bone and substance but this is not overdone retaining her femininity. Strong hindquarters. Moving out with correct footfall, but at times not holding her topline today quite as strongly as winner. Shown in good coat and condition. More settled in her movement in the challenge to win - RBB

1ST EUSANIT PEAKY BLINDER (MISS P A ROGERS)

Liked the overall shape and size of this 3 year old dog. He is masculine with substance but not overdone in anyway having a workmanlike air about him. Nicely proportioned head, with strength to the foreface, moderate stop and well placed ears, he has such a gentle expression from those brown almond eye. Strong neck flowing smoothly into a firm and well held topline. Liked his depth of brisket and development of forechest. Standing on well boned limbs. Balanced in his angulation. Moving out soundly and shown in good coat

2ND KATIMBA MALVASIA OF VALSANNRA (MRS J M VAUGHAN)

Pleasing 3 year old dog, who holds a lovely outline when stood. Masculine head, balanced and in proportion, clean tight lips, and kind expression. Strength to his neck, depth to the ribcage and showing a nice spring. Topline is held lovely and firm both stood and on the move. Not quite the rear angulation of winner. His footfall is positive and shown with a good double coat and well feathered tail.

1ST TOLLELKIN CAIFE GAELACH AT TOLLISTY (MISS H STREVENS)

2 year old bitch who is just right for size and balance. Lots to admire, as she is harmonious in her proportions and has lovely substance throughout, but retaining her femininity. Well proportioned head, lovely almond shaped eye, clean cheeks and tight lips. Correct moderate neck flowing to well laid shoulders, chest is let well down with ribs carried well back. Well developed in forechest, with nice tight elbows. Hindquarters showing a nice sweep of stifle and width of thigh. On the move showed her jaunty and sound gait, carrying her well feathered tail correctly. Presented with a good double coat – BB & BOS

2ND EUSANIT GEM STONE AT ABACOT (MISS HUGHES)

4 year old bitch who is well proportioned, with a balanced, compact, and unexaggerated outline. Being a fidget for her handler, preferring to sit than stand which was quite endearing. Appealing feminine head, good shape and colour to the eye lending to an alert and gentle expression. Strong neck, good depth, nicely boned limbs. Just a little soft in her topline today. Strong neck, deep in brisket, well sprung ribcage and short in loin. Liked her hindquarters, with a good width of thigh and bend of stifle. Showing good reach and drive on the move

Mature and stately looking dog who is coming up 7 years of age, and being like a fine wine looks fabulous on it! He has such a regal bearing, portraying power and strength yet agile and nimble. His silhouette when stacked is eyecatching for his balance and proportions. He is typical in outline and sound in his construction. Handsome masculine head, with an alert expression, strong neck, lovely depth which is carried well back, strong and level topline. He stands on well boned limbs and tight feet. Harmonious in his angulation fore and aft. Moves with a spring in his step whilst holding his outline. In super coat and condition – BD & BOB

2ND INT/HR/SLO/SWISS CH MACDREAMS TRENT FROM CASHEL VALE (IMP NLD) JW RL3 (MRS Y TITOVETS)

Another WOW dog, just loved him. He is a really neat and compact package. From a slightly smaller mould than winner, but he is all male. He shows his playful and confident side when stood, ready for action and raring to go. Masculine head, moderate stop, and lovely almond eye. Chest down to elbow, firm topline, strong hindquarters. Finished off in his stunning rich and dark double coat with a lovely well feathered tail topped with a white tip. In hard muscular condition and moving with good width behind parallel and straight, showing the typical jaunty action - RBD

This 8 year old bitch is looking in fine fettle. Loved her alert and attentive manner. When stood she shows to have good overall balance and be proportionate. A sound and honest bitch. Nice wedge shape to the head, clean cheeks, and kind eye. Strong neck, deep in brisket with well sprung ribs. Well boned limbs and tight feet. Hindquarters nicely angulated. She moved out soundly and at one with her handler. A little lacking in coat today

2ND CFYRE'S SPELLBREAKER AT TOLLPEPPER (IMP CAN) (MR A J & MRS J M TRICKETT)

Young bitch just coming up 2 years of age, and previously 4th in PG class. Liked her overall shape and size, just needing time to finish filling her frame. Head has a good wedge shape, with a moderate stop and correctly placed ears. Good length of neck, enough depth and spring for her age, holding a firm topline and a well bent stifle. Looks a picture on the move, with good drive and positive footfalls
