Ladies Kennel Association

Breed: Australian Terrier

Thank you to the officeholders and committee for inviting me to judge my favorite breed again. The organisers are to be congratulated for the way in which the show was managed and run, in view of the Covid situation. I had a very reasonable entry and it was a shame several exhibitors were unable to attend due to Covid problems. I felt the quality had improved and noted nearly all of my top winners were bred from foreign stock. All had good mouths with clean teeth. One thing that concerned me was light pigmentation around the eyes, not mentioned in the breed standard, but does not help to give that keen expression needed in a lot of the terrier breeds.

Thanks to my stewards, Diane Smith and Martin Russell.

PUPPY DOG (1)

1. Jones’ Wyeafon Eternity Flame. Internationally bred. A very nice blue and tan puppy dog, with a lovely out going, extrovert personality. Correct head and skull proportions, but I personally, would have preferred darker eye rims to give a better expression. Ears set on correctly, moderately wide. Nicely bodied, level topline with small cat like feet. Super harsh coat. Moved well and will tighten up in front with age.

LIMIT DOG (2)

1. Pengelly’s Ruarokatiro Red Roari. A good red colour. May be well up to size and length, but I do not mind a good masculine dog. Very mature for his age. Strong head with lighter eye rims. Nicely arched neck flowing into good shoulders and forequarters. Level topline and good body. Red coat of super harsh texture with typical ‘Aussie’ bib. Coat needs further attention but will come right. Lovely tail set. Moved very well.

2. Cawdell-Owen & McCourt’s Silhill Super Trouper. Not so masculine as above, but very nice. His head reminded me of our old champion bitch, correct shape and proportions, nicely set ears with the ‘Aussie’ distinctive silky topknot to finish it off. Nicely arched neck into good body. Level topline and tail set, with excellent cat like feet. Super coloured and textured coat.

OPEN DOG (3)

1. Jones’ Blue Blake Von Den Grauen Anfurten at Wyeafon (Imp Nld). Fits the standard very well, with a strong terrier character, friendly, extrovert and what a showman! I thought he looked extremely nice in the terrier group and did the breed proud. Strong head and jaw, with good sized teeth and super ear placement. Nice long, slightly arched neck flowing into well laid shoulders and forequarters. Good depth of chest and strongly constructed body with well sprung ribs. Level topline, well-muscled hindquarters with good turn of stifle and well let down hocks. Lovely small feet. Rich blue and tan coloured coat of nice harsh texture. Moved well. DCC & BOB.

2. Nottingham & Cawdell-Owen’s Ch Valmar Von Den Grauen Anfurten (Imp Nld). Another nice dog and worthy champion. Preferred his head, of excellent shape, proportion, eye expression and ear set. Another with a good neck and defined ruff around the neck that I like to see on mature dogs. Nice, strong body, well-muscled and angulated, level topline and good tail set. Moved OK. RDCC.

3. Taylor’s Wilfnbell Barney’s Blue.

PUPPY BITCH (4)

1. Stoddart & Skelton’s Millvalley Miss Muffet. A very nice ‘all round’ red puppy, who should mature into a good quality bitch. An attractive, well-proportioned head with correct shaped and set on ears. Slightly arched neck, good shoulder placement, nicely bodied with level topline. Correct harsh coat and texture. Moved OK. I gave her mother a CC at a young age and I hope she grows on to be as good as her. BEST PUPPY.

2. Jones’ Wyeafon Illusion in Blue NAF. Threw away her placing on temperament and naughtiness, which was a great shame, as I think she was very nice. I am sure she will be a star when she settles and behaves. She had one of the best heads and expressions of the day. Good body for her age, but regrettably could not really assess her properly on the table or her movement to place her higher.

3. Ward’s Wilfnbell Wonder Woman.

LIMIT BITCH (2)

1. Tyrell, Foskett & Freer’s Ruarokatiro Red Roisin for Wilfnbell (AX2). A very nice ‘all round’ bitch, who is looked after too well at home. She is not too fat but would have a better outline if she lost a couple of pounds. Good head and expression, although I would prefer her ears placed a little wider a part for perfection. Super colour and texture of red coat. Well boned and muscled. Moved OK. RCC.

OPEN BITCH (3)

1. Jones’ Wyeafon Private Illusion. A very showy bitch, of excellent quality and size. Good head proportions, with nice ear set. Well-built throughout and level topline. Excellent strong muscled hindquarters, well-turned stifles, with hocks well bent and let down. Super cat like feet. Moved with excellent drive and power from the rear. Coat of correct harsh texture, which I would prefer darker for perfection. BCC

2. Cawdell-Owen’s Millvalley True Blue. A very nice ‘all-round’ bitch. Good head, of correct proportions. Looked after too well at home, not really too fat, but could do with losing a few pounds. Nicely constructed with good, level topline. Not so outgoing and extrovert, but certainly not nervous. Correct coat. Moved OK.
