Driffield Championship Dog Show

Breed: Norfolk Terrier

Thank you so much to the committee of Driffield for inviting me to judge Norfolk Terriers without CCs. I was extremely pleased with my entry both numerically and quality in this relatively numerically small breed. Thank you to the exhibitors for entering their lovely Norfolks for me to assess and the excellent stewards that assisted me.

PUPPY DOG – (1)

1. Gee’s Watercroft Tea Leaf. Good head with dark oval eye, giving alert expression. Typical nicely placed puppy ears, which he will ‘grow into’. Strong neck into good shoulders and straight front. Compact, short back, level topline. Correct high set tail. Super hard coat. Moved with drive. BEST PUPPY.

JUNIOR DOG (1)

1. Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Expectation. Super well-proportioned head with slightly rounded, broad skull and well-defined stop. Strong muzzle and dark oval eyes. Correct neck into well laid shoulders, good length and return of upper arm. Nice body and topline. Well-muscled hindquarters with good turn of stifle. Good bone. Moved very well.

SPECIAL YEARLING DOG – (2)

1. Gee’s Watercroft Boozy Miller. Won on showmanship and movement. Good well-proportioned head, giving a true keen, alert and intelligent expression. Strong neck, compact, short back with level topline. Correct hindquarters with good turn of stifle and hocks well let down, enabling him to move with drive and propulsion. Well-set tail and good coat to complete the picture. BEST DOG & BEST OF BREED.

2. Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville High Life. A very typy dog, having excellent well-proportioned head, broad, slightly rounded skull and well-defined stop. Dark oval eyes and good ears. Medium length of neck, good shoulder, short compact body and well sprung ribs. Good substance and bone with neat feet. In good coat and condition.

OPEN DOG (4)

1. Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Way Cool. Another very good type with lots to like. I considered he had the best head and movement in this class. This kennel produces excellent well-proportioned heads, super skulls, correct ear placement and well-defined stops. Dark oval eyes giving the correct keen, intelligent expression. Really good neck flowing into well laid shoulders and upper arm, giving the correct front movement with no exaggerated lift. Well sprung ribs, compact body and level back. Well angulated hind quarters enabled him to move soundly with propulsion. Good tail set, substance and coat. A shame he lacked animation in the dog challenge. RESERVE BEST DOG.

2. Atkinson’s Moortop Mymarkagain. Another nice dog with a very good head, eyes and width of skull. Well laid shoulders and upper arm. Nicely bodied and moved well. Good coat.

3. Smith’s Ch Javidel Despicable May.

PUPPY BITCH – (3)

1. Gee’s Watercroft Gold Leaf. Lovely, shaped head, skull and placement of ears. Nice neck, super lay of shoulder, good upper arm and straight front legs. Compact body, well ribbed, with short back, level topline with good tail set, presenting a nice outline. Well angulated rear. Is still young, needs to mature and settle to assess the movement. One to watch.

2. Atkinson’s Moortop Bobby’s Girl. Another nice bitch puppy, but very much the baby, not so mature as the above. Very nicely constructed with super shoulder, good topline and hind angulation. Appeared to have a longer back. Nice tail set and coat. Moved well.

3. Mitchell’s Swalefield Clear the Air.

JUNIOR BITCH – (3)

1. Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Natural High. A lovely bitch to go over with quality. Super well- proportioned head, broad skull and defined stop. Correct oval eyes and well-placed ears, which she used. Correct length of neck into good shoulders and straight front. Short back, well sprung ribs with good depth. Good tail set. Moved soundly with reach and drive, covering the ground smoothly. Had good hard coat, substance and bone. BEST BITCH.

2. Tate’s From Dash Mountain Farm’s I am on Fire to Jaeva (Imp Nid) Taf Araf Naf. Not so mature. Nice shaped head, but ears not at their best at the moment, hopefully will improve with maturity. Nice to see a different coat colour. Longer in back and moved OK.

SPECIAL YEARLING BITCH (2)

1. Gee’s Watercroft Sticky Toffee. Another top-quality well-balanced bitch. She had the best head from this kennel today. Broad, slightly rounded skull, well defined stop, dark oval eyes giving super expression. Good ears, well set. Correct neck, super lay of shoulder, upper arm and straight front. Compact body and short back. Well-muscled hind quarters and good turn of stifle. Good bone, round compact feet. Tall set correctly high and in proportion with her body, but a little too over the back for perfection. Moved well. RESERVE BEST BITCH.

2. Mitchell’s Swalefield Clear the Air. Ok in head with good skull, ears and stop. Good medium length neck, well sprung ribs. Ok in bone and feet. Balanced angles. Appeared longer in body. Showed well in good coat. Sound on the move.

POST GRADUATE BITCH (1)

1. Mitchell’s Watercroft Hot Air. A very feminine bitch but had enough bone and substance. Nice head with correct skull and defined stop. Correct V shaped ears, well placed. Super overall shape with excellent shoulder placement and hind angulation. Moved well.

OPEN BITCH (2)

1. Gee’s Watercroft Crafty Tipple. Nice head with correct shaped skull and good defined stop. Well-constructed compact body with excellent shoulders and hindquarters, level topline and short back. Not moving her best today.
